The funny thing is that reading the visual novel is actually the fastest way to experience all of the Stay Night series, and in detail. However, the Ufotable anime are hype
@defaultwastaken Yep, and it's frickin brutal, just reading it through the first time, aiming to get every possible ending. It's really messed up.
@defaultwastakenwhat better way to enjoy Fate for the first time by jackin off to it lol.
@defaultwastaken you can turn all of that content off in the Realta Nua or Ultimate versions. You will get some alternative scenes without that content.
@@mordraug6662 Don't know why you would though. Some of it is actually relevant and impactful unlike most other eroge. Hollow Ataraxia is where it kinda starts dipping into fanservice 😂😂😂.
@@CalebPorter1105 you don’t need any of it for the story though, you just have to know that mana is being transferred
I love how "homunculus rape baby" didn't even make you blink, but "lesbian lolis kissing" got you to pause.
Strangely enough once you know enough Arthurian lore, the idea of siblings love, NTR, non-con relationships, infidelity, and so on just seem totally natural. The most well known Arthurian tale is basically the “Arthur was doped by his sister and forced to have a kid with her, which grew up to then join his Knights and then betray him”. Without getting into the whole Lancelot-Guinevere infidelity, Tristan two-timing between princesses, or Galahad being so pure that he took the Cup with Jesus blood back to heaven.

I turned back after i reached Heavenly feels watching in chronological order, therefore the quote is bs.

Fate is honestly way simpler than people actually make it out to be. Many times a Fate story is in it's own timeline or universe where events don't interfere with another series unless stated otherwise only sharing concepts so trying to integrate every series under the Fate umbrella and connect them is an uphill battle.
Also the Red Saber, Saber of Red thing is just people purposely trolling, confusing or just copying what they heard as anyone who knows the characters never call them that.
I call them by those nicknames on occasion.
Precisely. The only servant we still call by class name occasionally is Artoria. For everyone else, we use their real name or a nickname that includes part of their real name ;D
@@jesusvermillionthemereoleo5660 Technically all Stay Night servants are oft called by their class because they were the OG characters. Especially Archer since it gets too confusing if we do call him by name.
Iirc Red Saber was a fan name, but Saber of Red is the correct way due to how Apocrypha works
@@ryudhal Actually, Aka Saber (Red Saber) was how they jokingly called her in the gag manga of Fate and Tsukihime which they used for the Carnival Phantasm anime. So it was a fan nickname that Type Moon adopted themselves.
I'm glad I was both young enough and dumb enough to have the patience and time to read the Novel when it was first translated.

Q: Where’s a good entry point to the Fate Universe?
A: Everywhere, all at once 🤦♂️. 😂
Yet nowhere at the same time.
@@matthewpopow6647😂
Easy...the Visual Novel. If you get through that, the order is meaningless afterwards, since you are covered for everything already. Well, except for Grand Order I guess...
the core truth to take away from this video is "just read the visual novel", if you got time to watch a hundred hours of anime you got time for 80 hours of vn and the vn really does explain stuff well and is really goddamn good and hey, afterwards you can ignore every watch order
It's like the fate fandom forgets fate is a multiverse. The writers style of storytelling is supposed to be drip fed NOT forced all at once. To get into Fate you can start ANYWHERE and go from there.
The Fate fandom is its own worst enemy in this matter. They forget the cardinal rule of introducing a franchise, do not make it more complex to consume. Don’t force people to see things in particular order. Just let them see whatever piece of the franchise they find interesting.
Nice just like how I started with the doujins

Chat didn't find an anime which doesn't have many episodes. But they found an universe of an anime xD
But honestly the fate series is an amazing series. Many interesting stories, unique characters, Moral, loyalty and more.
They managed to vary a concept and create stories based on that in each spinoff.
And really, no worries about the complexity. You'll get pretty fast into the anime when you start. If you understand the basics, you'll understand all concepts of all spin offs. :D
So I'm just gonna try to do my best to explain how Fate started without giving almost anything away.
So Type/Moon is a videogame company created by Kinoko Nasu centered in developing visual novels, which are basically a multiple option book (take, for example, the Walking Dead videogame from Telltale studios).
The main quirk with Type/Moon is that Nasu chose that every one of his works would take place on the same multiverse, just in different parallel timelines.
Without delving into the other series, Fate started as a game with 3 possible endings and then created a sequel that ties all 3 endings together (thought timey-wimey magecraft bull-).
After the success of the visual novel, other games were developed, mainly the Fate/Extra universe and the Fate/Grand Order mobile gacha game.
Other authors started to create their own stories set in Nasu's universe, like Fate/Zero, Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Strange Fake, Fate/Type Redline, Fate/Requiem and more. When Nasu takes a liking to stories set in the universe he created, he just adds them into the canon. So many of the Fate series aren't even written by Nasu himself.
Also, as he started Type/Moon as a multiverse, he usually crossovers characters from other series/games into other series, so you see characters from Garden of Sinners, Tsukihime, Witch on the Holy Night and other novels he wrote/directed.
Fun fact: Gigguk is a member of a (not-so-anime-related) anime podcast called Trash Taste, along with Connor and Joey. If you've watched enough Ironmouse, you'll know Connor is the guy she hangs out with the most in streams
We just focus on what we're watching and have fun.
Finding a Fate fan that actually goes through the entire franchise is rarer than someone who had more than 2 shinies in Pokemon Red.
And once you've slowly absorbed a bit of it, like 2 of the anime series, even the stuff with the multiple sabers that look just like Arturia is pretty easy to wrap your head around when you explain it normally 😅 Like, in all seriousness, there's telling something and there's teaching something. The vid obviously tells and in a comedic way.
The Merlin and Mordred part hasn’t been that for ages but it’s hilarious to hear
Well the music around Fate/Grand Order or fate GO is pretty good they released a memorial movie which is three minutes long and it has amazing animation and the song is just perfect for it would love to watch you react to it.
CHAT I LOVE YOU
9:10 My man "that's hell your walking into..."
For Fate series, mainly watching Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Stay Night UBW, and Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel would be fine and they're not too difficult to get into. It's just the multiverse thing that makes it like it's difficult to get into. After all that, its up to you if you have other Fate anime that got your attention. It's worth the watch tbh. Once Piece is still a longer watch than this series tbh.
The look of absolute confusion and concern 😂
As someone who's been in the Fate rabbit hole for years now, it's amusing that a lot of this wouldn't be considered confusing. Except for the watch order, cause we don't have a decent Fate route adaptation.
Can't wait to see you explore more of the Fate franchise. While it seems like a lot (which it is) many Fate stories don't have anime adaptations.
And I'm sure many Fate fans will be there to answer even your smallest of questions with full paragraphs.
The best way I can describe the Fate series is imagine you are swimming. As you are swimming you think you are in a pool or maybe even a river. At some point you decide to get out but as soon as you think you want out you realize that at some point you ended up in the ocean with no land insight. Only endless ocean. That's Fate and it's lore
Haha, the moment the Gigguk video ended an ad for Fate GO came up
Look, I'm not a VN elitist but I don't fully understand how people convince themselves they don't have time to read the VN when they spend 4 hours on UA-cam, 4 hours on Fortnite, and finish it off with 4 hours of anime and then go to bed. Like just spend 1 or two of those hours a day and you'll finish it quicker than you expect. People will literally watch 2000 episodes of One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto on top of reading LN's and Manga and then be like "Yeah, I don't have time."
so true
Because Visual novels are not interesting enough for people.
in most cases players decisions don't make any difference in main story and there is nothing else to do except reading.
I personally played only one VN and it took me around 100-130h to finish.
Then I tried playing another one, but watching anime or playing a normal game seemed more interesting so i stopped.
@@Normadus They totally are though. And most choices totally do matter. Some VNs don't have as much variety in the choices and paths and there are kinetic novels which have no choices at all.
You're right they aren't for everyone but they have less of an excuse than people who say they don't read books. It's a whole experience. There's art to visualize it partially for you for people who are less imaginative. There's voice acting, sfx, and music. Some of the best in the anime industry depending on the VN. The OG VN Emiya theme among others, Shirou voiced by big name VA Noriaki Sugiyama, Gilgamesh and Kirei VA also freaking kill it, the hype and tension etc etc.
I implore anyone who is on the fence to at least give it a try. It doesn't even have to be something as difficult to get into as Fate. Everyone loves Steins;Gate. Steins;Gate has an amazing adaptation and anyone who has watched it give the VN a try just to see the appeal. It's the same reason why people will swear on their life "The Harry Potter books are better" or "The manga is better."
Or even a Key VN like Clannad or Little Busters. I guarantee even if you hate books that 75% of people who read those cry at some point.
@@Normadus The Fate VN has actually A LOT of decisions that will screw you up. Some of the bad ending scenes are ROUGH. And sometimes you don't know you have made a bad decision until like 2 hours in. It is part of the experience and those endings are really interesting, there is like 60 of them. That one Illya doll ending was absolutely brutal and scary :D... Especially in Heaven's Feel it is very easy to screw up :D
This is why you MUST save at every decision and why a lot of VNs, including Fate have so many save slots. Never overwrite a save.
@@NormadusThen say that, don't sugar coat it with this "I just don't have the time" BS. Not that I'm saying you are specifically, but 9 times out of 10 the "no time" excuse can be directly translated to "You mfers expect me to READ?".
I'm proud of myself for understanding 90% of the content of FATE.
Gigguk is one of the best things on the internet. Just a reminder - once you finish Re:Zero S1, watching Re:Zero in 8 Minutes is a must. IMO it’s even funnier than AoT in 9 Minutes.

Yeah, I didn't get the story much till UBW got released which is just right at the time I really had nothing else on my read and watch list. That's pretty much where I got into the hole which I had avoided once before (for being a brat who was more interested in Dragon Ball and Kamen Rider at the time).
It is definitely a good series though, so you should add it to your watch list.

As a long time Fate fan, have fun. Just enjoy the cool fights and neat lore.
I went traditional for Fate-
Fate stay/night->Fate Zero->UBW->Heaven's Feel
And I haven't regretted it yet. Although, i was insta scared off from any follow up because I accidentally cared.
Now you need to watch longer version ;)
Its great that Fate won on twitch, but I'm really surprised, that it was in a final against GATE instead of OPM.
People used to always spam and recommend OPM, to make people watch it, but it lost with Gate :D
I tried to wiki this cause I, too, wanted to get into the rest of Fate before lol.
So from my understanding, main series is Fate/Stay Night (the one animated by Studio Deen is the one that isn't properly accurate to the story, UBW is Rin's route, and Heaven's Feel is Sakura's) and Fate/Zero is the prequel to all this. The Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan series is a slice-of-life cooking anime spin-off and Prisma Illya is the magical girl spin-off where the MC is Illya (this is called by some as the "Illya route" since she was supposed to get one in the main series but didn't and this is the closest they could get to that).
Then there's the Lord El-Melloi Case Files mystery series starring one of the characters from Fate/Zero (like a sort of sequel to that but FSN main series is/will be happening alongside this one), FateStrange Fake is either a sequel/alternate universe of this (I still don't get it but it seems an anime is gonna come out soon for this), and Apocrypha is also set in an alternate timeline for this.
Carnival Phantasm is a comedy OVA series that has a crossover not only of all the Fate series but also other Type Moon (the creator of all this) franchises like Tsukihime. Tsukihime doesn't have an anime (that the fans would accept).
I don't have a phone so I can never get into FGO lol. That's like, a mix of all this, I think?
I really should finish watching FZero...
He did it, finally!
It's Hell you're walking into

Gigguk is a good lad but he is overdramatising the meme that multiple season animes have and fate is a bad example cus its really not that hard to understand and outside of those animes that i mentioned only apochria and lord el melloi is worth watching cus they are cannon spinoffs but after heavons feel there is no order to watch and there is no u have to watch lol.

Watching Fate/Zero to test the waters is fine if you don’t want to get dragged into large franchises unwillingly. Heck, even plenty of fans choose what to watch and what to skip since not every part of the franchise is made for everyone.
I agree, just warn people that only want to dip their toes (KnK & F/Z)
Or insist on the VNs if they want to commit (proper long-term investment)
Fate hype!
think of the characters like an old school JRPG with all the classes to choose from (archer, sword, cleric, etc) and every single one of them is identical. the stats are randomized every creation, and there are a bunch of pre-set outfit options to choose from. and you can only have one of each outfit, because it'd be confusing as hell to have a dozen identical Clerics with different stats and abilities, for example. (it's not exactly like this for Fate/ games but it's just easier on the brain lol)

The fate stay night visual novel is by far the best way to get into fate but most people do not like reading so we get videos like this where people argue over the order even if it's pretty simple 😂
Even if visual novels are lot better and more engaging with tradition books with effects visuals music and voices 😔
I got into the nasuverse in 2005 and have been hooked ever since so im glad your getting into it as well 😂 just know the anime adaptions are not substitutes for the source material and miss a lot of important scenes and crucial character details and nuances of the novel. but in exchange your get amazing animation and fight scenes by ufotable. So just keep it in mind bro!
As for the wider nasuverse I definitely recommend checking out tsukihime and Kara no kyoukai at some point. Tsukihime has great manga adaption and Kara no kyoukai has 7 part movie series and they are all directly connected together MCU multiverse style. It's really impressive!
Yeah, exactly...it is a shame, since the Fate order is extremely simple and flexible once you read the VN. For those who don't want to read, what would help would be if we got a good Fate/First Route adaptation instead of Deen... then a lot of problems would be solved Anime-wise, even if they will never provide the experience and details of the VN.
@@mordraug66622024 20th year anniversary let's go hold onto our dreams 😂 😭
We need visual novels openings reaction immediately
Fools, the real watch order is Fate/Zero episode 1-4 and then the first 10 minutes of episode 14, then you watch Carnival Phantasm backwards, and then you go to Fate/Stay Night Heaven's feel movie 1 but start at 45:27 minutes in and watch that backwards, then the rest of the movie regularly, then you can go ahead and finish Fate/Zero. After that you have to watch all the Kara no Kyoukai movies, and then you watch Unlimited Bladeworks, and then the rest of the Heaven's feel movies.
This makes Gundam look like a simple series

while we're here fate last encore has a banger opening
And here comes the funny part - this video is outdated, so you can add at least + 10 more things to watch/read/play.
honestly just watching fate/zero and then unlimited blade works (series obviously) is good for most people to just enjoy the best of fate. you get some of the best of the base story animated by ufotable.
This is my only gripe with Garnt. He makes the series intimidating when it's only really "start with the main story" and go with whatever you fancied.
Following a watch order for fate is only a necessity if you want to have a phD in the fateverse which is in no way relevant in any shape or form. It's a fantastic series that will be worth the time regardless of interest. Pretty sure this is also the reason why forums back then disliked his 'funsies' guide to fate
I would say Fate UBW and Fate Zero are just like Star Wars 4-6 and 1-3.
So from todays view you can also watch Star Wars 1-3 and then 4-6. But for someone who has never seen it I would still recommend 4-6 and then 1-3.
And it is the same with Fate. You can watch Zero (Star Wars 1-3) first, but it will spoil important details for UBW (Star Wars 4-6). And if you watch it the other way around it will also have spoilers because you already know where the story is going. But the spoilers in view order (UBW then Zero / or SW 4-6 and then 1-3) are the lesser evil I would say.
So there is no real spoiler paradox here.
I still highly recommend starting on Fate/Stay Night (Studio Deen, 2006), because it's the only adaptation of the first route of the original visual novel. It's better than what most people remembers, the details are all there to be seen, even the smallest ones. Yes, it modifies somethings, but all the adaptations modifies somethings.
So, I recommend this order:
1 -> Fate/Stay Night (2006 series)
2 -> Fate/Zero
3 -> Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
4 -> Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel Movie Trilogy
All other series are spin offs.
True and this is the order they came out aswell soo idk why people are so set on zero being first like i know stay night ist the best but its still worth watching so honestly you either start with 2006 or zero or visual novel and then just do the UBW and HF and the rest you go how you like leaving grand order for last for better enjoyment
Did you watch the long version? No spoilers for the main 4 (zero, stay night, ubw, heavens feel)
Welcome to fate
I wouldn't take this video too seriously. They make it seem more confusing for the sake of comedy. Fate/Zero is a complete series by itself, same with Fate/Stay Night.
The confusion comes from the adaptations of stay night. Fate/Stay Night is a 3 part story (Fate, UBW, HF) meant to be seen/read in that order. The problem is that the first anime adaptation which covers Fate added elements that spoiled the other 2. Eventually an anime of the other 2 came out, but you still can't see this first part without spoiling yourself on the rest, whence why people skip this anime and fans just say to read the visual novel (in which the characters are much better presented too).
Fate/Zero is a prequel, it assumes you know Stay Night, so it freely spoils stuff from it. People start with it regardless because it's still a really solid finished series on its own, and you don't have those adaptation issues.
Everything else is a spin-off. Different independent stories that put their twist on the premise of Stay Night. You can watch them in any order or avoid them entirely.
I watched the original Fate Stay Night and didn't care for it. Much later I watched Fate Zero and loved it. Since then I always recommend Fate Zero to people and to just watch it as a stand-alone. It really doesn't need any of the others for context and is a wonderful relatively short story on it's own.
Personally Zero can often also create false expectations because Urobuchi writes in a very particular way which none of the others writers of the franchise emulates. Nasu, the OG writer, is a very idealistic writer who focus more on worldbuilding and lore. There is also Narita who writes Stange Fake and is very much a characters writer rather than the lore itself. And we also have the Apocrypha writer who keeps his characters more as background and instead pushes the conflict and cool scenarios. And Sakurai, one of the writers of Prototype and the Extra series, is similar to Nasu but loves a lot of flowery language that is never properly translated.
now watch the long version
As much as people like to hate on it, I´d still say the best way to start is to swallow the bitter pill and watch the 2006 Deen version of Stay Night. (If you are committed to really dive into the series.)
At least until someone adapts the Fate route of Stay Night properly/better.
It´s where most of the basics of how the universe works are explained. All other series expect you to know at least a bit of what´s going on, so they can focus on how they are different.
(And on the plus side, most of Fate after that will look better.)
really seeing this makes them very confused or scared. Today Fate is only 3 seasons and 3 movies and the rest is extra and optional. Fate Stay Night: 2006 -> UBW and Heaven Feel's (3 movies) and finally Fate Zero
Homestly gigguk makes it more complicated than it actually it fate can be summed up as multiverse its that simple
Honestly i recommend Fate: Stay Night as a starting point, i watched whole series after release dates (each season) and it makes much more sense to follow it that way... Fate Stay Night is basicaly introduction to series and audience empathize with protagonist more, as he is clueless just as them - story is slowly explained and much less of a banger than in Zero. Same goes with quality. After Fate Zero, no one wants to watch older release (which is why guy called it a "shit").
To explain each release, Stay Night is like a tutorial, UBW shows more about Rin, Archer and Emiya, Zero is cannon from Ufotable to show off with their *own story* (nothing from Zero was in original visual novel - Zero was made by studio director, following some paths to not deviate much) and Heavens Feel is more about girls (Sakura and Rin). To be perfectly honest, i loved series so much i watched both old UBWs (12~20 episodes [dont remember] version and 3 episodes version) and then Ufotable version (2 series). To speed run older release of UBW, the 3 episodes are enough, longer version is slightly better, but shock from Ufotable version might be weaker: Ufotable always add some stuff between the lines.
Over all, Stay Night is like introduction to the series: just because its low quality animated is not reason to play cardboard animated game.. and Zero isnt even in the game for fak sake. As i told my nephew: "after Stay night, its up to you who you want to know more - you will already know the stakes of the series". Zero is like knowing more lore of history from series, but it will throws you in a world with more difficult explenations and much better graphics - which is why new fans criticize original series (Stay Night and old UBW)... audience cant jump in "prequel" before understanding the *story*, they (in show) will do and talk about stuff watcher never encountered.
I still insist on original Stay Night as first start: animation is crappy and low budget, but story is decent (i find it cool) and it carries audience to Fate franchize. But of course, just as everyone skips "tutorials" in games... so do people who are in just for smexy characters and awesome fights.
I gave up on the Fate series the moment I tried to understand where to start and the order of the series and failed miserably...
watch the long version
+1 It's better at actually explaining the world and completely free of any problematic spoilers. :)
Started as an early galgame player myself, I never thought Fate series can be that complicated for others😂. It is quite straightforward compared to other Nasuverse series like Tsukihime, Angel Notes, DDD...etc.
BTW, Fate Zero is a good start I guess.
When it comes to them spoiling each other he’s absolutely right but I’d say starting with Zero is still the better way.
As a fate virtual novel reader, i have no regret, i am now 100% toxic fate fan 😂
I remember watching Fate stay night (2006) and thinking to myself "when will this end??? I want to see the flashy fights in Unlimited Blade Works" lmao.
Though it did end up making me fall in love with the series (the ubw one, not the 2006) and now I'm stuck in the hell called Fate Grand Order mobile game with 2130 login days hahahha......... HELP ME
The long version is still a short version.
