- Am I waiting for the other shoe to drop? Have things been too perfect? Other than going from 1.5-2 gallons per day when sharing with one calf to NO milk for over a week when we introduced our second cow, things have gone so well. Now that the second calf is two weeks old and we are separating him at night too, we are back in milk!
I am a newbie, but here is my milking routine so far. I'm continuously learning and modifying things as I go. I also feel so lucky that calf sharing is going well!

If I were a new farmer, I would be learning a lot from you! However, it’s still interesting seeing everything that farmers do.
Thanks! I enjoyed watching these videos long before I thought I would do it!
Your cow is very gentle and sweet
Thanks for sharing. Neat shelter/barn!
The calf watching you pouring the milk 😂 you can tell was thinking hey that’s my milk 😂
good to see a young woman dong her best well done
Very informative with each step and why is very helpful.
Thank you!
Thank you so much, my Gracie is due in 3 days. This will be her first calf and my first real experience milking my own cow. I have a machine so it will not be as peaceful. This was quite helpful.
Like your set up.
Thank you!
Traditiinally cows/bovines/oxen used for hauling loads are trained to just use voice commands. If you give her treats and say yes, good girl when ever you give her a treat she will learn it means she has been good and then you can say yes, good girl when she does something you want her to do and she will know she did it right.
Cute little calf thinking your stealing MY MILK. I'm hungry too
Great video! How big is the calf yard? Thanks
Appreciate your thorough video. I'm preparing to separate my calf in a few days to begin calf sharing. After you finish milking do you wash the udder or treat the teats at all before putting the calves in with mom?
I love your barn/stall area for her, did you use hog/cattle paneling? Also, is there a tarp on the top? Does it keep rain out well?
Thanks! We intended to use all cattle panels but ended up using 1 hog panel because we didn't have enough cattle panels 😅. It doesn't really matter which you use if you have one type on hand already. You'll just need more hog panels because they are smaller. We have a tarp on there. 10 months later and it's holding up. Keeps rain out just fine. It is starting to fray near the bottom of the entrances and the grommets on one side all came off, but so far it's not affecting the performance.
🌅💯👍
