Dear Sophie! I am Maria, Matthias' Auntie. I have watched the film of the Roaring Forties and I was so impressed by the whole adventure. My goodness, what a big thing to organize. 8 people on board and you all got along so well. I am also very happy to see my dear MJ in the middle of it all. Matthias' uncle Walter (my late husband) introduced me to sailing on the lakes in Berlin and I can imagine what a big undertaking your sailing trip has been. Every smallest rope or shackle costs so much, the work on board is so hard sometimes and the planning for food supplies and dry clothes etc must be very meticulous. I am thinking of all that. Well done, Sophie and team, mum Annette, partners, sail maker and nurse and everybody. Well done. I enjoyed the film immensely. My daughter Karoline has watched it as well. She sails a big yacht at times and sends her admirations to you all. :-) Maria
Hi Maria! I'm so so glad you and your family enjoyed the video. Yes, much preparation and maintenance go into a boat to complete a sail like this. Thank you so much for your kind comment, I will pass it on to my family 🥰 Best wishes, Sophie
What an epic adventure and achievement! I’d love to do something like this one day. Congrats on the photography award!!! I love that Soph’s parents are also a sailing couple and your mum is also captain. She is a badass!
That's a fantastic race, and brilliant coverage. Raw and wild part of the world indeed..!! You've inspired me to go to Hobart from Adelaide anticockwise now..!! Sophie's folks are way cool..!! The whole crew was truly fantastic, eh..!!?? Thanks for taking us along with you, and congratulations on finishing, and collecting the Photographer's Award. Well Done.
Definitely recommend you check out the west coast! It is truly spectacular, 2 ports you can check out along your way 😁😁 cheers mate, so glad you enjoyed the viewing!!
I loved it when she said she felt alive! That is wonderful, you've made me finally pull out my Sailing for Dummies book so I can understand a little better what all is going on.
Slim & Soph i found the Melbourne to Hobart Race and it was absolutely fantastic. Fika is a Beautiful sailing vessel (Yacht) Love the interior. Yes I guess 8 people on a 49 footer would be tight quarters. You got into some rough seas, but all handle it like pro's. Congrats on your photo award and Fika's 48th place. It's not the win for the sailing it's the being part of it that counts. Yea Soph it was very simple to find this video.looking forward to next video cheers you two are EPIC!
How beautiful watching this episode... nothing beats a great crew and memories from being on such an adventure with your family... and of course Sue.. Deb. and the enthusiastic Swede (I want one!), such a fun and energetic bundle of personality on board ...... the best...
A huge congratulations guys! I loved this video & amazing job capturing the journey. You guys must of been wrecked, but awesome to have a good piss up at the end of it. Well deserved 🍻
Haha stoked you liked it. Yeah it was a challenging few days there without the wind but we were over the moon to cross the line and celebrate with the other crazy sailors
Wow, what an adventure!! Pass on this message to Slim and Soph. "Oliver and Soph you should do this for a living, your video account of this race was as good as any we've watched previously. Well done, I was enthralled and couldn't stop watching this through to the end without a break ". Kind Regards, Maurie Torelli CEA(REIV)
Great sailing, with the family bond and fantastic photography. You guys need to come up to the Great Lakes for the Bayview Mackinac or Chicago Mackinac race. The oldest freshwater race in the world! Could be just as rough as the Hobart. Love your channel!
OMG.. SLIM & SOPH you have outdone yourselves this time. What an amazing adventure AND what a brilliant put together video! Congrats to both of you.. and you so deserve the award at the end! ;)
Awesome video guys! We used to work on the water in Port Phillip so it was cool to see another perspective of the bay. And the sail looked amazing! Nice work
Very lovely! I am a new subscriber looking forward to catching up, and following along. Such a great vibe on the “competitive drifting”portion of the race. That is not an easy thing
Really amazing video with some superb editing skills. I was really impressed! You turned an adventure into one heck of an amazing film with a very happy ending.
Congratulations! What an epic episode. You guys should be hugely proud of how this one came together. The subject was obviously great content but you nailed the shoot and edit. It held interest for the full fifty two and half minutes no problem at all. What a great time to get the Insta 360 camera too. We love ours and are learning more of what it can do every episode we do. No doubt you have enjoyed getting back to the warm. Cheers!
Wow, fantastic video. What an amazing experience. Pretty good sailing to be right up with what looked like a crack racing boat at the bottom of Tassie in those light airs and sloppy seas. Well done!
Good for you guys! Just loved your low key, low expectations, positive attitude interactions. Except for the “don’t mayday around us” remark, I’d sail with you all anytime! Cap’t. Rip Harwood, S/V Zanetia, Brooklin, Maine (Hinckley Sou’wester 59)
That was fun and all but sailing the southern ocean meant something else to me. I visited Melbourne and rounded Horn in '64. Great fun all in all with seas that were a bit more excited. It was good that I was on a somewhat larger boat.
Fantastic. I spotted one of the boats in this video anchored next to us at Binalong bay a few days ago 😄 how goods Tassie? We are going to spend summer here on the hook
You guys would be so much fun to do a slow race with. Congrats on making sailing history on UA-cam ! WOW, looked it up on the map and you are REALLY down there, that is definitely southern ocean Roaring 40s ! LOVED THAT LITTLE GLITCH ! N6GRG
