Hey great work we really like following your trip , that bloody gulf is a horrid crossing, our friends went a long way south and down to Groote island but we kept north on a direct route, he had a calm smooth champagne sailing trip…. We had square waves , contrary winds, horrid currents rough waves , following us were strange unlit ships, And we were absolutely rooted when we got to gove. I think your boat is better than a cat for that crossing because it’s more of a sea boat and seems to hobby horse less . Great work guys , you’re our heroes!!! We wish our sons and daughters were as brave!
Glad you are enjoying the journey so far John. Yeah, we've heard it can be a wild place, we reckon we got pretty lucky with our trip. We were absolutely stoked🙌 Cheers legend! Appreciate it and your comment 😊
Soph u r the perfect example of the beautiful Aussie multi talented Womin!!!! Ur abilities as a Sailor r very sound and logical. Slim, uve got it made mate, all u gotta do is put up/down a few sails, kick back, eat all Sophies amazing food and go fishing. Good on ya legends, this was a very well put together episode, showing how it really is out there. I keep seeing Slim standing up in front of a Magisrate (trying not to smile) saying objection ur honour, it was this big!!! 😲🤣🤣🤣 oh an put ur dam life jackets on and harnesses when ur up front, it only takes one rogue wave or u hit something hard, doing 6 knts and ur in the water. Come on Aussie play safe.🇦🇺🇦🇺👍💪👌🌈
She certainly is !! Haha yeah the courtroom will certainly be different to the open ocean 🤣we try be carfull up there. We're clipped in at night or making sure we communicate during the day. If it feels unsafe we suit up
Rad shirt Slim! And only a carrot top would think to use a carrot. Ginger brains. 🤜🤛. I’m heading north to the GC this week for work. Will sail the boat north next month hopefully.
Hopefully, as you go over the top, your subs will pick up, way better than the circus which are the channels in the Carribean. Cheers, and keep on keeping on! Oh, the part that goes through the sink and connects to the outlet waste hose is called a plug and waste or P&W... Retired plumber! 😁
starting to love every ep of your channel. really good personality of you both. great adventure. good story that gonna go a long way for many years ahead. I dont doubt it, that two of you going to circumnavigate the world. Your life shows a different perspective. As everyone have various and different backgrounds. /Fair wind greeting from Sweden.
Hey legends, love your Chanel and keen follower! I will be patreon when back working, not atm due to injury! I'm with you Slimbo being offshore and planning offshore passages and all the anxiety it involves, it's killer! For me though, when im offshore im engaged in the fact, there's no help no nothing and no 2nd chances, it's all up to me to conquer, that in its self is so empowering! I absolutely love that feeling! I deliberately sail my 24ft yacht 10 miles offshore ,for that empowerment! Cheers guys, yes I'm herbly management of pain 😅😅😅😅
A great crossing. An accomplishment and it must give you more confidence in Nakama. That sudden loss of all the instruments makes me think that there is a dodgy connection in the power supply. If not that a dodgy wire that is rubbing or bending. Whichever it is, it won't fix itself.
Yeah wiring is all pretty tip top. However computer mounted to wall we think the shock could have just caused it to shut down to protect itself or something. Couldn't find a loose connection anywhere after the passage. Thanks so much for your comment so glad you enjoyed the film.
A wave slapped the side and all your instruments went off.... You have a loose connection on the feed wire to those instruments, could be on the switch panel or fuse holder on the switch panel.. Keep up the amazing videos guys
You need to carry Devcon, fantastic product. I would carry some soft wood to whittle into a plug but hey a carrot is not going to fail. enjoying your sail.
Wow guys what a great episode new tuning in to ya'll adventure is so much fun, coming from Australia is fantastic I've always wanted to sail round your island great incite be safe looking forward to seeing more of your adventure 🤙🏾
Good to see first mate Chilli still on board and hasn't mutineered as long as that fresh fish keeps coming he will be fully committed to the mission I've been designing Tiger shark patterned 👙 for yourself and camo blue south wester for slim with makeral badge infront🦈🐟.Bon Voyage 🦈🦈🦈
Love watching you guys. I put you up on the 80” tv and it’s like I’m right there with ya!!! So much fun y’all are such a great team and always laughing. Thanks for another amazing episode.
A wave impacting the side of the boat hard causing all the instruments to turn off would have me looking for a loose electrical connection on the batteries or the circuits from the batteries to the panel, and the panel itself that serves the instruments. The impact likely shook or vibrated the boat causing a momentary electrical short or connection loss somewhere.
Epic sail! Great passage and what could be better than nachos at sunset and burritos for breakfast! Now I will keep carrots on board, thanks for the tip.
Awesome guys ... just found your channel look forward to seeing more ... as a landlocked farmer its always a uplift to the spirit to see adventure and a young couple living a dream 👍👍
Epic episode! When I was a kid, I sailed a clinker built 16' Sea Scout cutter here in NZ...sail number was 131, just like yours...I've always liked that number...
All through hulls that can go below waterline should have sea cocks. At very least you should have a range of softwood plugs for all through hulls. They don't cost much but can save plenty.
🐰 What's up, Doc? 🥕 👍 Never underestimate the power of thought. 🧠 A masterful display of sailing the Gulf of Carpentaria. Extra credit for musical choices during sunset and again with dolphin on the bow. 👌 I applaud your accomplishments. Cheers, mates. 🍻
Thanks so so much Mark. Comments like this mean slot to us. We really appreciate it! And so exited to know that your a long time follower. It's so nice that this episode was received well as we had such a blast out there and it was one of our favourite peices of footage to edit so far too !!
That is such a fabulous boat. I would feel safe aboard her to go anywhere. Most all, but not all, has been on inland lakes. The best wind is always in the winter, which is very overrated because it is cold. Most of my ocean experiences have been in kayaks in our summer, your winter. I enjoy your videos. By the way, I was the one who thought that your mother was very attractive. All of you were sailing in a big race. Do you remember?
Ahh damm dale. This video took a while to edit. Real time us has slipped on by ! Would have been amazing to tell our from the boat as we sailed on outta there !
My opinion to that tuna that you were trying to fillet I do not like that dark red meat, but I know a lot of people that enjoy it just be careful with Cinco Terre I take that back after seeing you cook and eat it it’s not the red fish I was thinking Enjoy
There are good and bad eating Tuna, can use the bloody ones for bait ! but yeah some tuna can be a bitt bloody and fishy for our taste but this was a good one !! (northern bluefin or longtail) i believe it was
Send me a message from the other side is rather tempting fate. Get some tapered wooden bungs and valves on all skin fittings, even those above waterline. Stay safe.
I wonder if this crossing is the Aussie version of us Europeans crossing the orca-infested Bay Of Biscay, the curved recess down much of France's Atlantic coast, which I believe they built as a nasty trap for British types. Not only are those aggravating orcas very perilous, but the weather there is insane. Those blasted orcas attack sailing boats and try to knock off your rudder, a sport in which they boast quite a lot of success. Given that Aussies are gifted poets, here is some rather high-brow prose I first heard in Monty Python sketches around 50 years ago when I was a callow youth. I hope you both enjoy them. 1) The great Australian wattle is the emblem of our land, You can stick it in a bottle, or hold it in your hand. 2) Australia's a lovely land, it's full of bonza blokes, Sheilas, beer, and no-one's queer except in Pommie jokes. 3) Australians are the greatest sort They're God's own chosen race. If they ever see a fairy Pom They'll smash him in the face. 4) Australians like dressing up In skirts and having fun And that's all we were doing When the Vice Squad came along. Courtesy of the Monty Python 'Bruce' sketch QV via Google. Hope these gave you a smile! Happy wishes to you both.
Keep it going.. my fav. yachties!!
Thank you! Will do!

And this is why ABYC recommends seacocks on all "below water" thruhulls
Great episode!! Really enjoyed it. Soph your food always looks AMAZING 🤣

Great episode made possible with the help of a clever carrot top.

@@SlimandSophSailingNakama I embarrassed myself. I usually don’t comment on a person’s looks, but she really is attractive. Should I apologize to her?
@Tommy Cheshire Paying a sincere, respectful compliment doesn't require an apology.
I would suggest you look into a 3d printer to make emergency repairs. I would recommend a Bambu Labs A1 mini.
Hope that is a marine grade carrot
😂
This is going to be amazing! I just started your video.
Yew!! Hope you enjoyed!!
Can't murder when I'm tired. hahahaha
All to much that early in the morning 😂
I'm working on the export wharf in gove and have been keeping an eye out for you guys , but no sign , but then again im not on night shift .
Ahh damm dale. This video took a while to edit. Real time us has slipped on by ! Would have been amazing to tell our from the boat as we sailed on outta there !
@SlimSophSailingNakama . Oh bugger . That would have been good to recognise you guys coming or going past . Safe travels !
By the way, what camera do you use?
This was predominantly filmed on a brand new go pro 10 thanks to our patrons 🎉🎉🥰and a Canon M50

You should always have nerf balls on your boat they work the best for holes.
That's a creative solution!!
Send me a message from the other side is rather tempting fate. Get some tapered wooden bungs and valves on all skin fittings, even those above waterline. Stay safe.
When is a carrot not a carrot? Well when its a D.C. plug of course.
😂
you cant get any fresher than that out of the water into gthe pan then eaton
Carrot? That is getting to the root of the problem.
😂😂
;)
