Thank you for taking me back to June 16th 1966 when I had one for my 6th birthday, if only I had known then someone would be so passionate about it over half a century later I wouldn't have crashed it into my original Batmobile and Simon Templar's Volvo P1800 repeatedly!

@@snoopy-XV208 Ah, the horrors. I kept mine in a big plastic shopping bag, unboxed, of course, since every box was immediately discarded as trash.
Used to take the bag out to the sandbox, turn it upside down so all the cars came crashing out into a huge pile on the ground (sand)
After undergoing this torture for a while, the windows got scratched and cracked, so to "restore" the cars (yes, I actually refered to the procedure as "restoration"), I broke the windows with a screwdriver and removed them. There was also a stage 2 "restoration", where the chassis was forced off (breaking the rivet heads) again, using screwdrivers. I would then brushpaint the cars using a thick layer of Humbrol enamel. No paint-stripping, no primer, just apply a generous layer of enamel, and when I got tired of the current colour, a new layer would be applied on top of the previous one.
Of course, having destroyed the rivets, the cars tended to fall apart constantly, pieces would get lost in the sandbox, until they finally got so miserable that they became unusuable for play and go into retirement as "junk" on my sandbox scrapyards.
I actually still have a few from back then, generally in very poor condition, though, but I decided to replace my entire childhood collection 13 years ago and made it to appr. 99% complete.

A Wonderful Unboxing - there is nothing more pleaseng to me than watching someone, obsolutely enjoying their hobby. :) I had the 60s version and got it on a trip to the city and from our balcony on the motel, several stories up, the bad guy flew, over the balcony and how ever many stories down to the street... to be lost forever mere minutes after getting the toy. Such is the life of a toy gangster :)

I had a Corgi DB5 with the ejector seat but I was born in 1967, so mine was from the mid-70’s. It got a LOT of play time, so a good deal of paint was missing by the time I was done with Corgi and Dinky toys. Also, mine was silver, as it should be, that cheesy gold one should get binned.

One of the best unboxing videos I've seen. So many are by purists who just want to criticize but yours is full of enthusiasm.
I've received one for my (5)7th birthday. Almost brought a tear to my eye.
Full kudos to Corgi one getting the colours of the reproduction so accurate and attention to detail.
This is the version that WOULD have come out in 1965 had budget and time allowed.
Hopefully they'll do the 1966 Batmobile (Corgi 267) if the lawyers allow it. Be great if you did the same if you have the original version!
I found using a small serrated kitchen knife to slide under the ties & gently saw through seemed to minimise the risk of damaging the box.
    Thanks.

Me and my sister had one each in '65 of the Corgi type like yours. However they had tyre shredders which pulled out from the centre of each rear wheel. Also, the different numbers for the revolving number plates came on a strip of paper which had to be peeled off then attached to the car.

Corgi did 2 versions of the Goldfinger DB5. The 261 & 270. Early 270s had rotating number plates & extending tyre shredders. The 2021 version looks more in keeping with the larger 270. I fancy they're slightly naughty in referring to it as the 261

Exactly! I must have had a "270" version as mine came with the rotating number plates and extending tyre-shredders (from memory, they were yellow or orange plastic?), so this alternate 1960's vintage version without those came as a surprise to me. I wasn't aware that this _lesser_ variant of the same model even existed.

Was the 261 smaller and silver? Here in Australia dad bought me one that was much larger and very detailed and one that was, I think, 1/64 or thereabouts. What I call standard Matchbox size. Both were silver. Baring in mind I’m 54 and gave them both away decades ago so my memory may be off.

    Lovely Presentation by you.
It's really a very nice Reissue Corgi but not a 261 given the rotating number plates and the size of the casting would be more Corgi 270 which was issued after 261.
270 in its first iteration featured rotating number plates and extending tyre slashers in the rear hollowed live axle.
This latest issue sits between 261 and 270.
    Lovely toy.
I restore these little gems and will certainly consider purchasing this 2021 Corgi 261.

I remember that shortly after "Goldfinger" was released "Dinky Toys" brought out a red convertible DB5 to presumably cash in before Corgi got their gadget rich one on the market.
The Dinky one was so shoddy,( I can't remember now but think the doors didn't open & shut properly), that I got my mother to take it back to the shop for a refund. Dinky was never as well built as Corgi.

@johnsaunders8021 When the first model was produced, the silver paint available was suitable only for small detsils like headlamps. When used to cover a whole model it looked cheap and tacky. A couple of years later, though, when they produced the larger second version, they had better paint. So that one was silver, as well as having rotating number plates and tyre slashers that were not present on the 1965. A third version in the seventies was larger still but lost the plates or slashers again.

I ordered one from the 007 Store only for it to arrive missing a large patch of paint on the front right panel of the car. After quite long conversations with support, they sent me a second one free of charge - only this one's body isn't well aligned (front left of the car near the bumper has a huge gap) and the revolving plates have missing paint on them. The plates missing paint was a problem on both. Ah well - it is going to sit on a shelf on top of the box anyways and will just chalk it up to production fault that would be fairly likely to be present on any purchased. I can give the first one with the missing paint to a friend who is less picky 😝

I bought one of these when I found a 10 bob note in Windsor when I was on holiday. Many years later my cousin stole it from me claiming his mother bought it for him, some years later I saw one on sale for £350. I kept all my toy cars in their boxes and tried not to get them scratched, so, my entire collection would have been worth a lot of money had it not all been stolen from me by my relative.
Sixty years of technology and they can't get a tight fit roof and probably one of the only things that has gotten bigger over the years.

Dream toys from my 60s childhood. I didn't have many Corgi models because of the price, a pound was a lot in them days, so my collection was mainly Matchbox. I was lucky though in that my 'best friend' had Grand parents that lived with him and his family, and who liked to spoil him and his younger brother something rotten so he always had the latest Corgi issues, which I always got to have a play with. And I suppose that was the problem really, in that we used to take them to school and race them the lenght of the tarmac playground which left them looking somewhat worse for wear. Mind you, they were our toys... and we 'played' with them. Corgi used to place big adverts in the TV21 comic to showcase it's latest releases. That was my weekly read, but like I say, they were somewhat out of my pocket money range so I could only look longingly at what I couldn't have, unless it was near to my birthday, in which case I was in with a chance.

I still have my original in the loft somewhere, it is in a hell of a state but everything still worked when
I last dug it out. The tyres suffered greatly from rot, eventually turning into a cracked gluey mess.
Does the repro have a die cast bottom to it or is it plastic?
I found it very annoying that the repro SPV from Captain Scarlet had a horribly cheap plastic underside
which ruined the effect and the weight.

Due to arthritis though, my legs are a mess, I've recently had one knee replacement and I'm waiting for the next, so I struggle more these days getting on and off my cruiser, not so much my Bonneville Bobber though as it's generally a smaller bike. To add to my woes, I'm quite short lol, 5'4" if I'm lucky. We obviously drive on the left side of the road here, so getting on and off a bike is safer on the low side. I was wondering if it's ok to use your mounting method on the low side? I'm guessing it may be similar and maybe the bike is less likely to tip over as the weight is over the side-stand side, but I could be wrong. I may have lots of exoerience and I could give it a go, but before I end up in a heap on the floor, please let me know if it's feasible to use your method and mount on the low side. Nice one Robert and good luck to you.

Had one of these when I was eight years old and proceeded to lose the little man almost immediately, lucky there was a spare . Didn’t keep the packaging, all my cars ended up in a peak freens Christmas assortment biscuit tin rattling around . Still have the tin with cigarette cards in but the original cars are long gone , I think I swapped them for a massive collection of soldiers with a mate . I have built up a collection in later years however, including the original DB5 , no box though unfortunately.

Proportions of the original are much nicer, regardless of scale size, I had the original as a kid, probably a similar age to you Lorez ?? one of my favourite cars. First instinct is I don't like the shape of the new one, and hate the plastic tyres, it was the rubber tyres I loved. The Ford Zodiac police car and Transit Mk1 were also my other favourite Dinky of that at time.

I got this because of nostagia, I remember it took my mum ages to get me one, they kept selling out everywhere, the burning question is was mine silver or gold? I thought it was silver but it's 58 years ago so maybe I'm wrong, the one thing I dislike about the new one is the bulletproof shield being plastic instead of metal, but I'll still give it 9 out of 10. Now to wait on the SPV from Captain Scarlet!

An interesting review by an enthusiast.
I had this toy car for Christmas when it first came out but I lost the bad guy by Boxing day but nothing new there. A few years later(Not many) I had broken it open to find out how all the gadgets worked as I did with most of my toys which was a plus really as it led me to an apprenticeship in engineering taking machines apart and putting them back together.
I often wondered with these recreations what ever happened to the original tools? Were they scrapped when the toys had lost their sales appeal.
To be honest, if I was a collector I would want an exact copy of the original, DB4 version as well, no revolving number plates and the original style wheels. I doubt these will increase in value as toy cars like the original are no longer made specifically for children and will never be played with, so if a minimum of 10,000 are produced there will probably be the vast majority still around in 20-50 years.
You can always tell a real collector of these beloved things, collectors call them models where as people like me still refer to them as toy cars.
    🙂

    • @rx6180

The 1960s gold one was 1:46, the later silver one, 270, is described as 1:43. Seeing as this new one is bigger than the original in the video I’d say it was closer to 1:43.

For me the only disappointment is the phrase "Designed in Britain", rather than "Made in Britain". Of course, we all know what that means. That doesn't surprise anyone any more, but it's still very, very sad.
