Apparently this model was released in Gold because it was felt that Silver (as it should really be )would look unfinished ! This a decision made by the companies management. "Bonkers" 😕
i wonder if they will ever release the 270 model with the tyre shredders? Or maybe those would be such a choking hazard for children they won't risk it?
Great review. I had the original back in the 1960s and I am very pleased with this re-release, which I purchased a couple of weeks ago. The only thing that I have found to be different from my original (from memory - that model has been long gone for over 50 years) is that the James Bond figure is not glued down and fixed in his seat. My new one can come out of the car easily but is quite difficult to put back in his seat. Is yours like this or did they forget to secure mine in?
Too bad they couldn't recreate the correct grill shape. That really is my only disappointment with the new release. I tried buying 7 of the vintage 261 but none of them was anything close to a mint condition. At least with the Club release, you get a brand new one albeit with the wrongly shaped grill. I tried to join the Corgi Club but at this still, they seem to be accepting only British members. Hope that will change in the future.
I would imagine that Corgi didn't want to produce an exact copy so that someone couldn't try to say it was NOS or something and palm it off as an original. Is the undercarriage riveted on or does it has screws?
Excellent review as always. CMC have done a fantastic job with this and I agree with them removing the mould lines as well. The base is silver like the original with rivets! (Where did you get the turntable?)

@@lorez8388 I have read on the CMC UA-cam threads that the second edition will contain other minor alterations. I take it that this may mean they're going to amend the grill as well as making the paint slightly more metallic, which was their main concern when they took delivery and noticed how the paint was not quite right, hence the reason then sold it as a LE with a letter offering to exchange it for a version 2. My bet is it's already a collectable item as it's rare so no one will exchange it. Good review btw.

@@lorez8388 I've ordered the preorder off the CMC website (you can buy cars individually as well as via the subscription route). So I'll see what changes they make in addition to the paint (if any). I've become addicted to the CMC cars as they are such good replicas.
If i'm mistaken the Hornby issue is based on the (superior) 270 casting. Taking about 270 I wonder if they are gonna make a replica of the original 1968 release which is quite valuable maybe even more than the 261 release.
I wish they would make the DB5 with the newest moulds!

I have a 261 - 1965 Playcraft DB5 made in UK, but is the new car from the CMC also made in UK or a Chinese import ?
Everything is made in China these days. If it was made in the UK, I expect no one could afford one

The corgi model club version is far and away more accurate and the gadgets work more smoothly.
