I remember going to the cinema to see this movie in '95. I even dragged my mum with me and the cinema was packed! The film was a big deal back then. Great film, with a lot of humour and well done fight scenes. The music is also awesome. Glad you enjoyed it. Keep up the good work. Hope you get a lot more subscribers soon!
Hi @philsmith3261 I can totally see why this movie was a big deal. Also, I think it has very well survived the test of time. The movie and its characters have a very charismatic vibe to them. I had a great time watching it.

Cameron Diaz was originally supposed to have played Sonya Blade in this, but unfortunately she injured one of her wrists not long before filming commenced. Bridgette Wilson (now better known as Bridgette Wilson Sampras after marrying tennis player Pete Sampras in 2000) signed on instead.
Steve James, who was to play Jax originally, died of pancreatic cancer in 1993 aged just 41. He was replaced with Gregory McKinney. For some reason in the credits his name was given an extra "x" (Jaxx, rather than the Jax spelling used in the 1993 _Mortal Kombat II_ game in which the character made his debut).

Sonya herself is based on American martial arts actress Cynthia Rothrock. In fact, Ed Boon and John Tobias (the two main men who created the franchise) were hoping that she would be able to be digitised for the character in the first game, which came out in amusement arcades in 1991 (all of the in-game fighters in the first three games were digitised from real people, rather than being drawn in a paint package). She turned out to be too expensive but the inspiration is still there.

You know how many of my childhood friends and myself fought over who was gonna be scorpion in our backyard recreation of the forest fight 😂 then we'd run into the shack to simulate the switch to the underworld

Great reaction! This is considered the best live video game movie and you can see why. At the time there were only 2 MK games out that this was based off of, its very accurate and close tp the original source material for the first MK game. As an 80s and 90s kid this movie left great memories after seeing it in theaters. Also MK has by far the best video game soundtrack theme song. Its still to this day amazing! Happy mothers day to your mom!

I saw this on VHS when I was 7 years old. I must’ve drove my dad crazy because I kept rewinding and watching it again like 10 times haha.

I don’t know if you’ve watched the old Onida Tv ‘Devil’ ad. It wasn’t even scary and I used to end up crying every time I watched it. 😂

Cool reaction! How about some badass oldschool Jackie Chan films? You should add Armour of God to your list of movies to watch. In this film Jackie Chan was just epic, stunts and fights are very good, and even one crazy car chase ! Jackie got his most serious trauma filming one of the stunts in this film, this head trauma almost cost him his life. Absolutely worth watching great film !
P.S. It also have a badass sequel too, Armour Of God 2 - Operation Condor. 😎

I have seen some Jackie Chan movies but it’s been many years. I remember being very impressed by the action scenes and finding him very charming but I don’t specifically remember the movies. I’ll add Armour of God & its sequel to my list of movies to watch.

This particular _Mortal Kombat_ was the first film that I ever rented out. Even though the violence was less graphic than in the original game and its first sequel (as this film contains some characters that were in the _Mortal Kombat II_ video game but were nowhere to be seen in the first game), somehow it did not seem to matter too much and a lot of people consider this to be one of the better film adaptations of a videogame.
This film's success led to a direct sequel two years later - _Mortal Kombat: Annihilation_ - but be warned, that sequel is quite a drop in quality compared to this, so much so that a planned third film in that particular run ultimately never happened due to _Annihilation_ bombing at the box-office.
@Texy88 I read somewhere that they limited the bloodshed & violence in this one so as not to lose younger fanbase. I’ve never played the games but I found the movie really fun and I was looking for another Mortal Kombat movie to watch. Mortal Kombat 2021 has good reviews I guess. Have you watched it?
I've yet to watch the 2021 reboot but have seen the animated one that came out in 2020 (I managed to buy it on Blu-Ray): _Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge._ That one is really good, although unlike the 1995 live-action one you watched here, this one *does* have the graphic violence akin to the games (enough to get it an R rating in the United States and an 18 certificate by the British Board of Film Classification here in the UK).
Goro also appears in _Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge_ and is voiced by the same man who voiced him in the film you've just seen.
When it comes to _Mortal Kombat: Annihilation_ (1997) only Robin Shou (Liu Kang) and Talisa Soto (Kitana) reprised their roles from the 1995 original; all of the other returning characters have been recast.
Another fun factoid is that Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (who played Shang Tsung) and Talisa Soto were both in a film together previously: the 1989 James Bond film _Licence to Kill._

@ignaciotorres1782 I read somewhere that they did not want to lose their young fan base, that’s why it was just PG13. That’s why they limited the violence, otherwise it was supposed to be even more violent and bloody.
