- Mortal Kombat movie 2021 Reaction.
First time watching Mortal Kombat 2021. This was quite the experience. A lot of people have mix reactions to it. Sub zero was fantastic as well as Scorpion. The Sub zero vs Scorpion fight scene was awesome. They did great with Sub zero attire. It seems this Mortal Kombat was more towards some origins and tried to stay true to the game a little bit. Cole character was ok. Seemed kind of boring for the most part. Kano stole the show for sure. The last 15 minutes of Mortal Kombat was absolutely great. First one of hopefully plenty of movies to come. Who else is a fan of the 90's movies?

What's everyone’s thoughts on Mortal Kombat? _Ready for the 2nd one?_
I liked it I liked the storyline it was using Cole to to get scorpion out of hell rather him just turn up out of nowhere. They explain how you get the crest of champions and how they get their powers. Lui Kang is learning still so isn't kombat ready so isn't op yet. It has a cheese vibe but uts mortal kombat your gona get that. Definitely like how shang tsung has the ability to raise them back to life for the 2nd film and adding cage to next 1 will be good. Easiest wat to think of this film is the prelude before the tournament.

The Scorpion vs Sub-Zero final battle is reason enough alone to see the movie again! Hope a sequel is in the cards!!!

John Carpenter didn't "invent" Raiden; he created the characters of the Storms who inspired Raiden's modern appearance but he's actually a figure from Japanese mythology.

Liu Kang should have been the true protagonist in this new movie, he is the chosen one, defender of earthrealm and the grand champion of the Shaolin Order of Light. Both Liu Kang and Kung Lao are distant cousins and are the descendants of the Great Kung Lao.
Think they'll go that route in the next one?

I loved this movie only complaint was how they did goro. Goro was insanely good and they killed him off so easily. But what i think alot of people forget is mk brings characters back constantly so i wouldn't be shocked if alot came back in the next movie

Don’t worry they still have sheeva, kintaro, Montaro, Kronika, Kotal Kahn, Shinnok and Quan Chi who are hella powerful characters

This movie was so much goddamn fun. The fights, blood, humor, and these characters being brought to life again. Brought me back to the old days of playing the games and just wrecking fools. I truly hope they do a 2nd one. I want Johnny Cage, Noob Saibot, Rain, Cyrex, Kitana, Baraka, and Shao Kahn to show up. More fights! More blood! MORTAL KOMBAAAAT!!

I actually like how they introduced their powers in this movie. Even for Kano. For all of his bravado, he must have been sensitive about his eye after Reptile's attack... so his enhancement then focused on making his injured eye better just like how Jax focused on his replacement arms. It made sense. I loved it. Especially with the Mortal Kombat theme music for the final fight... I still wish they could have used the original but the rave remix is...okay lol

@@BaddMedicine If I was the director of this movie, I would have references from MortalKombat 9, we need klassic characters like Kitana, Baraka, Johnny Cage, Sindel, Shao Kahn, Ermac, Jade, Skarlet, Kenshi, Kintaro, Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor, Quan Chi, Sheeva, Nightwolf, Shinnok and Rain.
We should see some in the next. One would think any way.

Subscriber from Nigeria here. This movie is just a premise to the introduction of Mortal Kombat. I would've preferred if they used Sujinko as the audience veiw on Mortal Kombat instead. I like the movie but there are some loopholes. You guys should check out Mortal Kombat Legacy. Still anticipating the part 2 of the movie though
Can’t believe I never saw this one on here. If you want some amazing fight scenes, the guy that played Sub-Zero is also in The Raid: Redemption. Some of the best fight scenes I’ve ever seen! You guys should definitely watch it!
there are two different sub zeros, bi han and kuai liang, kuai liang is the good one and bi han is the evil one.

Haha 😄 I've only seen the first 2 MK Movies, so was cool to see a BM early reaction vid from back in the day! ^.^ YES!! you did the "TOASTY!" line! 😄 Oak "Ever been hit with a can of soup? Hurts like hell" 😂 out of the original MK characters, Rayden was a favourite of mine, Scorpion used to scare the crap outta me as a kid!.
This sub zero is not the good guy that is seen in MK9 - 11. That's Bi-Han's younger brother.
Also shoutout to Hiroyuki Sanada, Scorpion, for balling out in the opening as a 60 year old.

I like how they made the movie through a character we’ve never seen before. If they did it based off the game we would already know what would happen during the movie. This way I’m getting surprised with what they are doing new. Each game brings new characters to it so idk why everybody hating on cole. The story coulda been a lil better but overall I think they did it justice.
My favorite video game weapon has always been the Tonfas/elbow blades.

Kung Lao was an epic character straight outta the gate & as the franchise evolved & moved forward......Jax went from being a decent character to a Full On POWERHOUSE!!! ....... Don't degrade the characters just because YOU don't have the skillz to use em.

Euh 🤷🏾♂️......7/7.5 outta 10. But I kinda knew & could forsee what to expect with this 1 so I wasn't really let down by the overall end result. Only thing that really kinda stopped the score from being higher is the fact that they gave away a lot of the spoilers & best content in the freakin trailer 🤦🏾♂️

This movie was a prequel to the tournament itself. The second movie will be the tournament or something greater. Cage will be played by Karl Urban in the next film
They really wasted potential on Cole Young. The actor was phenomenal in Into The Badlands, I think he could've made a great Kenshi if they'd let him. But "Cole Young" is a brand new character they created so that the audience felt like they had someone to connect to. As a result, he's super boring.

I enjoyed the film and most of the characters. Kung Lao, Liu Kang and Kano were my favorites. Everyone else was in between but fairly enjoyable. I absolutely HATED Raiden though.

Have you guys considering doing a reaction to the original Mortal Kombat movie? You could do a reaction to a Mortal Kombat Annhilation movie as well (although its pretty bad. But you would be entertained by it in a trainwreck way).

I must say the movie has redeemed the franchise itself, Mk annihilation is trash, i hope the trilogy would exceed the current one, furthermore the johnny cage part was being discussed by the fans, they want scott adkins, ryan reynolds or the miz from wwe, to fill that part, moreover i hope we could get a sub zero and johnny cage spin off movie.
Lots of people are looking to the Miz for the part. Would be cool to see if he can pull it off. Also saw some asking for Chris Pratt. Sub Zero movie would be pretty cool.

I still like the movie tho...i really do. its not the first bad movie ive liked lol oh...Cole....why the hell did they write him in? lol

Sub Zero is a fun character.
Um...there have been 2 on 1 matches in the games for a long while now. Hells, the GameBoy ones had them.
Better than Annihilation but not even close to how good the original 1995 movie was. Hanzo/Scorpion only had one child, not two. By adding another child they're changing a major part of the lore regarding Hanzo's history. Cole was boring and unnecessary. The whole idea of the dragon marking and arcana was dumb. I mean Kano getting his laser eye and Jax with his arms because of "arcana"??? *Shao Khan voice* Don't make me laugh. Most of the fights felt rushed and low budget. Subzero is a bada** and so is Scorpion. Kano was hilarious and pretty much stole the show. Jax vs Subzero was good. Scorpion vs Subzero was awesome, with the exception of Cole butting in. I loved the fatalities. The whole movie was below average at best.

I really wanted to like the new Mortal Kombat movie and gave it its fair shake. Unfortunately, it might actually rank in for me as the most disappointing movie I’ve ever seen, and that was with me actively trying not to set my expectations too high. The Scorpion and Sub-Zero stuff was mostly great, but the majority of the rest of the film was extremely, avoidably and unnecessarily disappointing. The story was very poorly developed, some of the dialogue was very cringiy (and without the excuse of the movie coming out in the 90’s), and most of the characters were done a great disservice. Liu Kang and Kung Lao were reduced to side characters in order to give Alice-I mean Cole-more screen time. Goro looked great but was completely misused. Scorpion had about as much screen time as Jason in his real body in “Jason Goes to Hell.” Mileena looked nothing like Mileena and was so underutilized, it would’ve been better to keep her out of the movie and reserve her for a sequel that actually had Kitana in it as well. Reiko didn’t look or act like Reiko, could’ve been any random henchman, and was taken out way too easily. Nitara was nothing more than cannon fodder and could’ve been anyone as well.
I waited the whole movie for Kano to get his metal eye plate (or for it to be revealed under his skin T-800 style), only for the concept to be dick-teased a bunch of times with it never actually happening. Not to mention the stupid fucking death by garden gnome. Also not to mention that outside of his big fight with Sonya and his wisecracks, he’s very useless throughout a lot of the film and gets his ass kicked by practically everyone (and fake Reptile doesn’t count because that was a team effort, not to mention a really stupid fight). They gave him a sense of humor but took away any semblance of him actually posing a threat to the other characters, and it shouldn’t have been a one or the other kind of thing with that character.
How Jax got his stronger mechanical arms was really fucking stupid. In fact, the whole dragon mark and “arcana/superpower that gets unlocked if you get emotional enough” thing was a joke (especially since I never realized that a subgenre of Asian mysticism and magic included spontaneously materializing nanotechnology).
There were more holes in the plot than Swiss cheese. One was with the mark and arcanas as mentioned above. Another was with Raiden selectively alternating between protecting the Earth Realm fighters and being utterly useless. And despite being alive for thousands of years at a minimum, it never occurred to him to teleport the fighters wherever he wanted to give them the upper hand (because the washed up mma fighter apparently is a better battle strategist than the thunder god who’s more than 100 times his age and has seen and/or lived through war after war). Speaking of the washed up mma fighter, Cole gets his ass handed to him by the mma equivalent of Rocky’s Spider Rico at the beginning of the movie, yet as soon as he gets his energy-absorbing Black Panther suit rip-off of a superpower, which he has for a whole whopping two minutes by this point in the scene and hasn’t ever used before, he easily destroys Goro, the 1000 year old Shokan warrior and reigning MK champion who defeated the Great Kung Lao in combat back in an earlier tournament. Riiight....
Even most of the fight scenes were pretty bad; the Scorpion and Sub-Zero scenes were very well done, but otherwise, there were maybe one or two other fights that were good or decent. The rest suffered from subpar choreography and horrible cinematography that constantly cut away from the action and/or repeatedly zoomed in too much to see the action properly; people are raving about the fight scenes and how “great” they were just because there were fatalities, but in most of them, the distance from Point A to Point B (in other words, the actual fight) was disappointing. So many of the fights made it painfully visible which actors had less experience in martial arts and fight choreography; in some instances, I was easily able to see when a more experienced cast member was deliberately slowing their moves down in order for the actor playing their opponent to be able to keep up with the choreography. Unfortunately, the production company appealed to the lowest common denominator by dangling the blood, gore and fatalities in front of people like a nice shiny object and basically saying, “almost everything else is subpar, but look: fatalities!” I’ve seen plenty of movies and television shows that had absolutely no problem combining excellent action and fight choreography, lots of violence and gore, excellent cinematography, a great storyline with great story and character development, great acting, and excellent pacing (some of which star people in this movie, including Joe Taslim, who played Sub-Zero), and this film unfortunately has the violence and gore, only has the well-done choreography in roughly two or three spots out of the entire film, and falls short in every other above-mentioned aspect (but don’t worry, there are fatalities; reminds me of the fucking Malibu Stacey episode of The Simpsons-“But she’s got a new hat!”). If you want legitimately good fight choreography and gore (plus an overall excellent film), watch The Raid, parts 1 and 2, and The Night Comes For Us. Unfortunately, this movie catered to the lowest common denominator by just assuming all of the fans are a bunch of simpletons who can easily be distracted by fatalities and won’t notice all of this movie’s problems (there are some fans who fit into this category, but there are also those who don’t).
Considering all of this, it’s almost as if an entirely different film crew worked on the opening scene (which was great), and then was inexplicably replaced with a less skilled crew that decided to work with a completely different script, at which point Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim were then just left contractually obligated to finish the rest of their parts of the film.
Also, while they looked very impressive, Raiden and Shang Tsung had absolutely no personalities compared to their 1995 counterparts. And some of Shang Tsung’s dialogue was so fucking bad and contrived, it reminded me of some of the dialogue from the original Resident Evil game, most notably, “If you, Jill, the master of unlocking...”
While it was definitely better than Annihilation (which isn’t saying much), and while there were some good moments, this movie was very disappointing.
