It seems that you can't control the scroll though from your laptop - based on this video. So... that's not.. usable, right? Unless you happen to speak at the exact continuous speed, or you go through and manually split your script into a billion chapters, every single time - which is a nightmare lol.

00:00 🎬 Teleprompters like Elgato's Prompter simplify reading scripts in videos, enhancing the delivery and making hosts appear more prepared and knowledgeable.
00:54 📦 Elgato's Prompter package includes various cables, a universal shroud, backplates for different cameras, and step-up rings to adapt to diverse camera setups.
01:51 💡 The Elgato Prompter design is sleek and professional-looking, with a smaller window that can be adjusted or removed to accommodate different cameras and lenses.
02:52 📱 The nine-inch display on the Prompter has a lower resolution, suitable for displaying text, while the mirrored glass allows hosts to read the reflected text.
03:18 🔌 The tablet on the Prompter has a single USB-C port for connecting to various devices, including Windows PCs, Macs, or Android devices.
04:18 🎤 Elgato's Prompter offers mounting options for webcams, microphones, and tripods, catering to various hosting or streaming setups.
05:18 🖥 The Elgato Camera Hub software allows script management, brightness adjustments, and potential integration with Twitch chat, enhancing engagement during streaming.
07:15 🎨 Users can customize text colors, backgrounds, font styles, and opacity, though changes in background color can impact video output quality.
08:43 🔄 The Prompter software enables chapter navigation and auto-scroll features, but lacks an easy scrolling method on the tablet itself.
10:38 🎮 The Prompter can function as an external display for gaming or other purposes, providing versatility beyond teleprompting.
12:07 📸 Compatibility with mirrorless cameras and larger lenses might pose challenges due to limited space and mount configurations.
13:31 💰 Elgato's all-in-one Prompter, including tablet and user-friendly software, offers a cost-effective solution for solo content creators or small studios.

Hanging stuff off the lens is a good way to break the lens mount on your camera. As a professional photographer and cinematographer with over 15 years of experience, the way to make this work would be to use a rails system (something simple like a small 15mm rail system would give you the mounting options you would need). Also, the lens shown isn't that long when discussing dslr and mirrorless lenses. Even thinking about my 16-35mm f2.8 Sony GM (an ultra wide lens) and comparing it to this simple f4 super zoom (that is shown), well they're pretty close to the same length. Sure, the super zoom is slightly longer but it's also skinnier.
TLDR: like all of Elgato's product line, it works well enough for non-professionals or for twitch streamers but it's not a product that would survive in a production environment.

If this was an issue, all the wildlife photographers would be walking around with broken cameras.

Lenses aren't designed to have so much weight hanging from the front.
Elgato should be wary of recommending using the prompter without support hanging from the lend like that as it can lead to customers asking for repair if this way of using the product damages their costumer lenses.

I heard him say that it can be used with your phone...would have been good to see this, as often I'm out on location solo and would be nice to send/control this from the phone that's already in my pocket as opposed to it being an external monitor for a pc or mac laptop.....

Idk why I've never thought of it before, but watching this made me ask: Why don't we use teleprompter setups for video calls...? It seems like it solves the entire "eye contact issue" very easily.

I wish that was all covered - I'm not buying because it's not clear how to remote control the thing as far as manual scrolling. Seems like laptop doesn't work (Riley couldn't make it work, except for chapters), and I'd like clarity on which StreamDeck works and what the differences are etc before spending $500 (total) on this thing lol

Awesome video! I want to buy this for my work but I have a very quick question. Does this teleprompter need the Elgato software to screen share from a laptop (I have a MacBook) My work has very strict rules about installing new software and I just want to screen share from my Mac and use a free teleprompter website or Microsoft Word. Thank you in advance :)
