@@FloridaFishRescue yes I used to have a aquarium with nice fish but I lost them because I left them in the hands of my mom but she had to do overtime and the fish died out sadly
I have Opae Ula which is brackish water and I always heard no plants will grow and brackish water so I am very happy to find you doing this I have subscribe so I will be following in to see how you’re acclimating these plants I am very interested in
I am getting a tank soon to set up for Opae Ula (someone gave me a tiny bio orb and I feel really bad they are in there so I need to transfer them out) and was hearing the same thing about plants. I was disappointed because I would also love to have some green foliage besides algae so I’m glad I came across this and can’t wait for an update :) I might just buy these same plants and try as well since it’s going to take a while to acclimate. I never had any kind of fish tank or shrimp tank before so I’m nervous but excited :)
Depending on your salinity, you can also use seaweeds. They are called macroalgaes by most in the aquarium hobby, I recommend sea lettuce, it can live from almost fresh water to water even more salty than seawater.
Those bio orbs are death traps for Opae' Ula shrimp. I have been keeping them in a brackish tank for about 20 years now. In the Bio orbs, they will die off in about 6 months. Right now I have a specific gravity of 1.015, and have Chaetomorpha Marine macroalgae in their tank. I feed them spirulina algae powder. They also graze on algae that is growing on the rocks. Best wishes. When you get them out of their tiny bio orbs, they should live and reproduce fine in even a small aquarium.
I have a 40 breeder with wild caught green sailfin molly's, I run a low level brackish water 1.004, All my plants came from my fresh water tanks, if you stay low brackish water levels almost all fresh water plants will grow. I have a dirted substrate with supplements 2 " deep, capped with 2 1/2 " of sand, per Father Fish videos. Instant Ocean sea salt, and two sponge filters. My tank is a little over 2 years old ( set up time ) no problems so far.
At first some wilt alitte, but they weren't acclimated to a new salinity, they were straight from fresh water to low brackish 1.004. I have albino cory cats in tank too.
Yippie! Excited for part 2!
me too it's going to be a while though as I have to go through the whole process first
Bro you are a life saver you help me out alot❤❤
Yeah, man, I'm glad it helps. If you happen to have brackish water around you, there are plenty of plants you can collect as well.

Happens to the best of us, brother
Moneywort (Bacopa) is sometimes found growing in the brackish 1.005 bayou's near Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana

I guess it's an experiment but I have it on good authority that with proper acclamation they'll do fine. We'll know in a few months.

Yeah, lots of aquatic plants can weather fairly low brackish salt. It's touchy, though. A little too much too fast and everything wilts.

@leonardbarron6967 nice I didn't know cories did well in brackish.
What salinity are you shooting for?
.014 - .018
Its been 1 year. Got an update?
The only thing that is still surviving is Java fern, and it's not as luxurious as it would be in fresh water.
Dawrf sag, cryptocoryne, Val, and red mangrove are gonna ne you best bet
Agreed
