Im a landscaper (south ga) and rhizome growing plants for me are called nutsedge. Pulling that out of ground activates the rhizome and more grow off of that. Around 1700 nutsedge per year off one plant. With that being said i wonder with the Anubias and other rhizome growing plants i feel like you can almost move them around the tank without actually taking them out. Just letting them sprout off one direction and keep it going while pulling the trail. With my experience rhizome growing plants are harder to kill. Thanks for your video. -new tank owner

I can't thank you enough for your wonderful videos. When my son was little I dabbled in having freshwater aquariums in his room, but I have not had an aquarium for over a decade, and see that I basically was doing EVERYTHING wrong. I have learned so much from each of your videos and love your delivery. I have three requests/questions: 1/ Do you have a Freshwater Aquarium 101? Basically a video for people who are clueless and know nothing. 2/I am confused regarding guppies and angel fish. The both seem to have made it on the the lists of the best fish to get for beginners, and the worst. 3/You ship to the States? How is that possible? I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and I would love to buy from you, but I can't understand how your precious little fish can make it half way around the world. Thanks again, you have made something I have been thinking about doing again both
    educational and fun.

All it took was 2 'normal' water changes for my plants to grow (And I added some as we went) to the point where the nitrites are getting sucked up SO much. I barely need to change water at this point, with this stock in a ~9gal. (4tiny killis, 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 amano, 6 pygmy cory, 3 otos) It's a decent amount of stock, I keep expecting to do a water change but the nitrates build up SOOOO slowly! And the rest of the cycle is doing great.
I have 2 anubius, some kind of sword, some long-blade grass cover and another cover (A cript) plant, and about 6 watersprites that propagated from 2. Oh and a bunch of huge (amazon) frogbit. Between the sprite and the frogbit, I think they're the ones sucking up nitrates. I trim them way more often than I do water changes, and I find it quite fun. My wife's goldfish eats some of the frogbit roots and bits too!

You really don't want to clean the gravel on a planted tank. You just vac the surface.

    Hey! Great video
Which ones out of these do you think would grow best in gravel only (other that Anubia) without aquasoil/dirted tank setup ?

Anubias doesn't grow in gravel, if you bury the rhizome it will die. Elodea, swords, crypts will all grow in gravel. You need root tabs for them to grow faster in gravel. Anubias, java ferns and bucealandra can all grow tied to a rock or ornament or glue the rhizome to rock/driftwood but don't glue the roots.

I have aqua culture aquarium gravel in one of my 10 gallon tanks. Is there any plants that can grow in that or that don't need a substrate?

I got my very own anubias and several days later it got brown spot all over the damn leaves, even though I fertilize it two times a week. Then today I just found out it was just dirt. This is the same case for my Java Fern too. So basically I'm stressed out for no reason for a few days.

Java Fern is wild. Ive got dozens of new plants propagating on the existing leaves. Im in the middle of the nitrogen process, so Im attributing it to the massive amounts of nutrients in the water....all plants are growing like theyre infused with CO2, but so far Java Fern is the most interesting. My entire aquarium is going to be filled with them. Not to mention, Ive yet to have an ammonia reading. Plants are the very best filters that cannot be replicated by humans.

Once Me and my dad , and his friend went out on a fishing trip.We sadly didn't catch any fish, but we caught a lot of wild coontail plants. We decided to keep some of it and that we would put some of it in our pond. and well, we still use it for fish tanks and stuff and found that It's basically impossible to kill, the only way I've ever managed to kill it was by leaving it out of water for 50 hours plus. you don't aquarium fertilizers and it doesn't look bad either. If you can get your hands on it, Highly recommend.

I agree. What I can add is that Vallisneria likes my aquarium water unadulterated. It has always grown willdy great IF,i did not add fertilizers or Iron or potassium. Its also done best as the main plant..not too many other species. It also you will find grows very fast and dense if you have an aquarium that gets a couple of hours of sunlight a day. Vallisneria is immune to hair algae and pretty much any kind of algae growth on its leaves. I mean,if you have a big tank and want just one plant to look like a stream..Val will do it.
In fact,I just remembered..Amano did have a big tank in his gallery..just straight leaved Val.

Probably my biggest mistake was removing the water sprite I use to have floating on the top of my 75 gallon tank just because I saw some black beard algae growing on some of the roots. Cause I didn't realize it was preventing the BBA from growing on the rest of my amazon swords and dwarf hair grass, I actually thought it was spreading the BBA. But after a year of removing the water sprite I am now dealing with a major BBA outbreak that covers most of my amazon swords and Dwarf hair grass, my algae eaters can't keep up with the spread of BBA. To add insult to self-inflected injury, I lost all of my Amano shrimp, Bamboo shrimp and freshwater gobies about a month after removing the Water Sprite.
