actually i've been thinking this too. mozart and chopin were masters of the piano but only in classical music piano. they were masters of classical music but they never "broke out" of their musical styles even though they were very creative they still stayed in their classical music boxes. the real definition i think of real musical genius is creating an entirely new genre / style when playing an instrument. now imagine if mozart had been experimenting and messing around on the piano one day and came up with this boogie woogie style, then that would have been something else!
@@tees926 that just wasn't the style of the time. The dance scene is relatively new to the world of music and before it there wasn't as much emphasis on the base, cause the bass it what you usually dance to. The only thing that came close was waltzes (the waltz bass line is kind of similar to ragtime and new Orleans style except you get the fifth jump and an 'and' in between). This also is in many ways not as technical as traditional classical music. Hardly changes key, if ever, plays pretty much just 1-4-5 kind of thing. It's very hard to play it competently but even who's not that good, can usually tell what they are playing. This is similar to how for example, the Renaissance masters never did abstract, doesn't mean they couldn't do it, it just didn't sell at that.
