See now this very helpful because growing up whenever playing this back then with brothers or cousins we never did understand the reversal mechanics me and my brothers would always just spam both "L and R" repetitively and just hope a reversal occurred.
This game is all time, me and my buddies wkd do tag champion tourneys all weekend long, holding the belts for months at a time, def so much fun. We are in our 40s now and I wld love if we all got together to play again sometime
I thought R was used for all striking attacks and L was used to counter all grab attacks. Including moves after being fully grabbed. So R is the button you use to counter moves after being grabbed or it’s all about your spirit gauge?
R (block by default) is to counter striking attacks, A is for grab reversal near the end of the opponents grab, and L is to break their grab attempt (but this doesn't need to be done at the very end. It's more like 8/10 of the animation while the other 2 are on the very end 9/10) - in a way of making it more clear. Spirit Meter only affects your reversal chance when opponent has already grabbed you and trying to do a move.
How do you do running diving attacks like a running dive to the outside or running dive to the corner to the outside I've struggled with it and cant find any info on it

Sir you are definitely a God send for making this, and I am grateful…. However, what about reversing the grapples in the Middle of the move? For me, that is the most difficult scenario.

I found out about all these and way more that you never said on my own. I put so many hours into this game
Oh man, World Tour was so cool. Unlocking the Boxer and easily knocking out the wrestlers was fun
I remember that one. His attack damage was pretty high even on weak attacks, iirc.
Joe Bruiser was awesome. He had no grapples, but who needs them when you can just knock people the eff out.

Believe it or not I had to learn how to counter in this years later on an emulator with slower speed setting. Now it second nature pretty well.
I can relate to this kind of videos to this day there are a bunch of games with certain mechanics that I don't know how they work.

Random based on meter. Just button mashing. Low spirit will result in low chances

This system.was way ahead of it's time. The higher your spirit bar, the more chance you had of reversing/countering a big move.
I think it's that chance based reversal system that has helped give these AKI games so much replay value over the years.

The computer will always cheat and let itself counter more often.
The top rope move can be reversed, just run away lmao
