Thomas McGill I bought a used one from someone else and I even complained to him because it won’t work but after seen this video I was able to make it work I’m glad this video is here.
Oh Good Lord... Can't you just go an work for Focusrite? You did this in 2011, and it's still makes more sense than anything they have put out. Cheers.
This is BY FAR the most COMPREHENSIVE & helpful UA-cam video on this subject I have ever seen. Thank you for making it SOOOOO much clearer. I was banging my head against the wall and, like most musicians I'm sure, wanted to skip the manual and get right to recording.... hence the frustration. Thank you so much for this.
after spending endless hours clicking every single button on the MixControl and watching so many different tutorials on Focusrite, after watching this one, I can finally understand how it really works! I love the way you explain things, it makes total sense! Thank you!
I'm here in 2021 and still using this model. I haven't even bothered with mix control because I haven't found a decent tutorial. Super clear and slow for us dummies. Thanks!
Focusrite should have this available on their website, seriously. Thank you so much for posting this. 9 years later I now fully grasp the real-world benefits of MixControl.
I really needed this video. I've been using the Scarlett 18i20 for a whole year with very little idea how it worked. You've brought me out of the dark with a single video. Thanks!
I am an educator. I built a soundproof music studio and scored some decent hardware through a grant with the idea that if I build it, they will come. They did. I didn't have a clue what to do as I have no background using Logic or the focusrite software/hardware. I have a lot of faith in their abilities, but have found the focusrite extremely challenging to understand. This video cleared the fog for me and I can now trouble--shoot issues that crop up from time to time. I'm a bit envious of the clarity you simply and affectively employ in teaching. True sign of a great teacher. Having taught for 30 yrs, I learned some very valuable teaching strategies that you seamlessly stitched into your tutorial. Wow. I mean really Wow! Great job and thank you.
Graham, I have had my Liquid Saffire 56 for 4 years, watched a number of videos trying to explain what goes on in Saffire MixControl....not until today was I able to to wrap my brain around it...your tutorial was spot on! Thanks again for all you do! You are truly helping so many folks in so many ways! God Bless and Thank you so much!
This is unbelievable!! I've been trying to figure out how to use this thing for a YEAR (with Ableton Live), and you cleared it up for me in minutes. I can't thank you enough for this vid. It also resolved the stupid latency while recording. Keep posting Man!!!!
Wow Ive literally had my saffire for almost two years and have seen lots of vids but never really understood the mixing screen until I saw your video thanks a lot!!!
I bought a Saffire Pro24 DSP 10 years ago .... but it's only now, when I watch your video, that I finally understand how the mix software works. Couldn't "get it" watching other videos over the past 8 years. How I really wish I had seen your video 9 or 10 years ago. It would have made such a difference as to how I could have accessed the features of Focusrite's amazing hardware. Thank you for this clear and concise terrific tutorial.
Focusrite - if you see this, please hire this guy to do your videos, and pay him to use this as your instructional video. He has taken your baffling user interface and made sense of it all in 15 minutes and two seconds. Thank you Graham, you have a special talent. Nicely Done.
After all the hours wasted watching poorly done F'Rite "tutorials", Graham clarifies this much quicker. Having separate screens, one for their mix control and another for the DAW would make changes on the fly easier. But that control is a mess. A Saffire 40 has been sitting here for a year because of that hangup.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I bought the Liquid Saffire 56 last month, but only started using it yesterday, and the mixer control scared me, but now I feel alot more confident, still need to rewatch this video a dozen times, but thank you. You hit the nail on the right spot
I commented quite some time ago, but honest to Pete, you are so clear and concise with this, you might wanna think about doing this for a living. This video cleared the whole thing up for me on how the routing all works. Marvelous job. Marc
I've watched several tutorials on setting up sub-mixes for my new set up which happens to be Focusrite 18i/20 (2nd gen). Graham breaks their Mix Control down in a simple yet very logical way. As always, appreciate the assistance. It's awesome to have found a handful of very reputable sources for all things mixing related. Thanks Graham...all the best!!!
I've been using my scarlett interface for like five years now, and anytime I recorded with my bandmates, I'd say "tough luck" if they asked about a headphone mix, because I didn't even know i could do that! Thank you so much for this tutorial! :)
Not that it's even slightly surprising or anything, but your breakdown of this Mix Control application is by far the best one available. Thanks Graham. As always, good stuff!
Good Dude, Graham! You just verified that I need to stop second guessing myself so much because I was working with the Focusrite 8i6 in the exact same manner you described in tis tutorial. I have watched several of your videos and I have to say that you are a good person to take the time to make these videos with such detail and precision for others to "overstand" this field of music production. Keep up the solid work!!!
I love how you talk to me like I'm five years old. And that's not sarcasm. It's the best way to learn for a beginner. Too many tutorials these days are filled with jargon and superfluous information. Yours is very straightforward and coherent. Great video. Thanks.
Dude! Despite your video has more than 12 years it still helping a lot! I recently bought a second-hand Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and the first thing that I did was to search how to use it and this was the first video that came up. Thank you so much for your explanation and for introducing me to this wonderful world of Focusrite. Now I'm not afraid of playing with my interface!
Graham, as a new Protools user. i just want to say thank you for your dedication to teaching! I feel blessed every time I learn something new. And I am sold on a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20.
This is a great tutorial Graham. I like the way that you deliver your tutorials & reviews. I have watched a few of them now & always appreciate them. You're always clear & repeat important points for emphasis. It took me awhile to learn the M Audio S/W for the Project Mix I/O. I just got a Saffire Pro40 & getting to know this S/W has been a learning curve. It has a lot more options available. Your lesson helped me learn a few new concepts of how the Mix Control behaves & the signal flow.
Just got my Saffire 56 today! Thanks to your vids I was able to crack it open and get to those HOT mixes WITHOUT ANY DELAY that I was looking for! Thanks again Graham!
Graham..I've had this box for +4 years and I was still trying to understand it until today when I watched your video. Thanks bro! Finally....I GOT IT!!!
Wow ive had my focusrite saffire pro 40 for years now and struggled to understand why I was getting delays. Finally a video that clearly explains it. Thank you so much. Hug kiss.
Thank you for breaking this down, your reviews, tutorials and insights are very much appreciated. Also I started your "smart start to mixing" series, so good.
Hi Graham, over the past 10 years since this was posted it has been seen on average 100 times a day! I first discovered it about 6 years ago and it is always my go to when I need a refresher, it's the best available on the net. It is also probably one of your most viewed videos, Thanks You !
I had everything down except the fader to the right. I now understand that is the inputs and DAW mixed together. I don't know why I couldn't get that but you cleared it up for me. This video is worth a lot to me. A real time saver. THANK YOU!!!!!
This video has finally made the Mixcontrol understandable. Please keep giving us this type of video. Contact Focusrite to join forces. The teacher they have now leaves me confused.
So happy to see -- after doing a UA-cam search -- that you have done a tutorial on this! Always been a fan of your videos. Last night was the 1st time trying to setup this software and I got frustrated. Looking forward to watching.
Excellent tutorial! Thanks for clarifying MixControl. I own a Saffire Pro 24 DSP and a Scarlett 6i6, and you've just made my production life a lot easier! Keep up the great work. I'm subscribing to your channel.
I'm speechless. Thank you SO much for your help. You explained everything perfectly! I've seen a lot of your tutorials and I've learned a lot from them. Your videos are priceless work :)
After being away from this hardware for a while- you're still making sense- well, the only one that's in "real" speak. Because like a lot of us. You listen how it would sound TO YOU.- if you needed to follow along. That's essentially what a good Communicator/ teacher is; Some like yourself that cares if anyone else can understand what you're talking about. Thanks,
Very instructive video man. since I bought this box I have been amazed and confused about many aspects of how to use its many possibilities. Undoubtedly it is a great product, now I feel more confortable after watching your video, thank you so much.
Very helpful, thanks. I must have played the official Focusrite tutorial 10 times and it was incomprehensible. I played this once and understood. Good stuff.
Wow I've had my Pro40 for two years and with this video i can finally use it the way it was meant. Thanks for this video! You should be on Focusrite's payroll.
Thank you so much for this video! I just purchased a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 and it had me so confused on how to setup the routing. I scoured Focusrite's website looking for help and I still couldn't quite wrap my head around it with the information I found. This video makes it crystal clear! Focusrite should be paying you to do their tutorial videos!
Ok. This is by far the best explanation of the MixControl software. The key point being that you have to mute the signal you are recording on your DAW in order to get zero latency. Very straightforward and basic run through of how to use the MixControl. Now I understand!!!
Unbelievable! God bless you brother... You have a gift to take something very complex and make it extremely simple for people to understand .... true definition of an educator! Thanks so much, I totally understand the whole concept of this and more things that baffled it before
Excellent explanation Graham. Made understanding my Saffire Pro 40 infinity easier. One of the best demos I've seem. I hope Focusrite will throw you a bone for this great tutorial.

Awesome!!! Thank you so much. I've had the 8i6 and MixControl software for quite a while and have just been muddling along up until now. I can't thank you enough! :-)
