No Heat. Inducer Draft Motor Not Running EP162

Had an overtime no heat call over the weekend. When I got there turned out the inducer draft motor was not cycling on. After some checking I found the motor was still operational but the relay in the control board that controls it was shot. I tried to hook up a contractor to get the inducer to run but the control board turned out to have other issues as well. One week later I return with a new control board and installed it.

Should keep a couple of the Copeland 50m56x-843 universal board on the truck, good for just about any thing single stage that’s not variable speed ecm

You should keep the ICM2812 Universal furnace board on the truck. Has gotten me out of pinch a time or 2. Works on a lot of stuff. Especially with Lennox in our area not having parts when you need them.

If the board was working when you diagnosed the failed inducer relay, what did you do to make it fail?
As others have stated, I think the temporary fix needed to be a delay of the inducer, not immediate start up. Or delay the pressure switch.
Ultimately, if you do residential as a major part of your work, you need to carry some universal parts - boards, HSIs, gas valve, blower motor and maybe even pressure switches.

One possible reason your temp fix didn't work: When the thermostat calls for heat, the control board first checks the vacuum switch to see if it is open. If that that is true, it then starts the inducer motor and checks the vacuum switch again to see if it is closed. Your temp fix may have started the inducer motor to soon.

100% correct! I bet the same theory could be achieved with a sequencer or a universal time delay relay.. at least that would give the board the initial proving delay time.
