ALASKA HIKE IN SNOW AT KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK Harding Icefield Trail at the famous Exit Glacier

  • We set out on Alaska's Harding Icefield Trail in Kenai Fjords National Park, hoping to make it at least to the Exit Glacier viewpoint at Marmot Meadows, about 1-1/2 miles up the trail, but deep snow turned us back about a 1/2 mile or so short of that. We did have our YakTrax for better traction on ice and snow and we had plenty of food, water and warm clothes (although as you can see in the video, we shed a lot of layers because it was really a warm day). We also carried both a 120 decibel Air Horn and a can of Bear Spray for just in case, but we didn’t see any animals.
    Even without seeing the Exit Glacier or any wildlife we had a great time - it was a gorgeous, scenic hike! But we think we'll make another attempt before we leave Alaska - we'll link that here when we do!
