Im a TMC driver and I often do workouts on and around the trailer. Even when I'm out walking/jogging at a rest area getting at least 4 miles when I can. We need more vids like this to motivate our drivers to think outside the truck stops in more ways to eat healthier and stay more active while on the road.

I am a retired military veteran just in the beginning stages of trucking. Like I said I was very skeptical about doing this fearing I could fall into the trap of living an unhealthy lifestyle. I wake up at 0430 where ever I'm at, truck stop, rest area, place of delivery and I set my mat and dumbbells on the ground and I do an hour of HIIT (high intensity interval training) followed by 500 push ups, 3 sets of 33 reps. That ads up to 495 so at the end I do 5 single push ups to equal 500. Thats how I start every day Monday through Friday while over the road. Since I'm home every weekend I have a home gym and I still wake up at 0430 but on top of doing my morning HIIT. I also do strength training through out the day and get some running or cycling. I train 7 days a week. Sunday I train but is more of an active recovery type of training. I also pack my meal prep for the week. I eat super lean and clean. No fast food, no soda or juice. Lean meats good fats, some carbs and alot of water. It ain't hard to stay in shape over the road. You just have to be discipline. I've trained in the rain, snow and scorching heat. My regiment is solid.

Not only should he take pride in his personal health achievements while being out on the road but also, his choice in doing this respect to everyone else out there. Truck drivers run many risks of being accident proneif not in good physical condition. In my opinion he not only deserves respect for himself, but everyone else he is also benefitting by his choices out there and sharing some things to try.Truck drivers are always needed and they are on the road most of the time, the choices he has made are goingvto help with falling asleep heart attacks, general alertness are always things that can affect a truck driver and cause or be in a fatal accident . Best wishes to this guy and thanks for the advice on things to try and do. Very imprssive!

Keep in mind y’all that everyone has different genetics, also keep in mind gender and age. I’ve been living that truck driver life for 15yrs... when we (my team driver) started I was 20 he was 21 and I was able to eat subway everyday and very stay lean (mind you I was probably a “skinny fat” thin on the outside, very unhealthy on the inside) but now I really have to restrict myself on eating ANY kind of rice, bread, potatoes, corn, etc, being a female in my 30’s it’s not as easy as a males lifestyle. You also might want to eliminate most sugary drinks on a day to day basis. If I am craving a little fizz I drink a flavored sparkling water with 0sugar added. Every now and then I do enjoy a Body Armor drink, but try not to make it a every day thing. I’m really glad to see more of my fellow drivers choosing a more healthier lifestyle out here on the road but we are definitely a stereotype. I wish they would take out the game rooms in the truck stops and add in a free weight room for drivers. We are a big part if not the biggest part that keeps the world moving so good health should be the number one priority and the truck stops need to take into consideration what kind of food places and amenities they have for their main source of money flow, THE TRUCK DRIVERS!

in the late 90's and early 2000s, some truck stops started putting in exercise equipment, nobody used them, or they misused them and got tore up. Free weights went missing, etc. I'm 62 still driving, just had my DOT and passed no problems, I exercise everyday, keying down on cardio, and not losing muscle mass. It's a lot harder at 62 than it was a 40 lol

    • @joshuastevens5910

@@garyharrison8891A weighted ruck vest would be a good investment. You can put what weight you want in the vest whether it’s 45 or 60 etc. You just have to know how to fit them correctly for them to work properly. I use mine daily with my dog, 3 mile walk everyday and I burn as many calories I would as if I were running.

  • @garyharrison8891

Great video, I did this years ago, and still do it today. I can't stand being overweight, and it's happened a couple times. At 62 I still maintain a daily work out routine, and cook my meals out on the road. Like Bryan I take protein supplements, and key down on lots of cardio. I also spend a lot of time stretching. The ham strings can really tighten up from sitting in one position most of the day, when you do it day after day, year after year. Spending time stretching your whole body, can relieve a a lot of the body stress from sitting so long

I'm actually going from teaching middle school science to trucking myself. Talk about extreme changes in your career path huh? I work out myself and was worried about finding the time to work out, along with worries of gaining weight on the road. This was excellent. I plan on going to JTL trucking school in Omaha in July of this year (2018). Been seeing some great reviews on this company. TMC seems like a great company, and letting their drivers make these videos is pretty cool. I may be looking into coming TMCs way this summer if they will have me. Great video bro, shid need more videos like this.... We all need to share that advise its a lot of us that already know but eithr too tired or just not ready. But thats some of the reason why because what a lot of ppl don't realize is that if that get that testosterone boosted by eating right and exercise shoods we can get that energy back. Because staying fit is very important. Not only trucking but everything. I decided to make that change about 2 years ago and im glad i did. Great video man.. Keep on trucking truckng brothah

I have an objection, to the packaged chicken. It is very high in sodium. I have found that many of the packaged items, the sodium content is ridiculous, I have personally invested in a food saver and cook at home. I also enjoy tuna, however being sodium conscious, I have to buy from Amazon unless I pay $4/ pouch for No Salt Added Wild Planet tuna at walmart.

Truck driving companies should give out free gym memberships to their employees. It would definitely cut down
on job / diet related illnesses. Oh and why not have a nutrition program for drivers who are obese and have food related diseases or as a preventative measure for drivers who are healthy?

Agree! They should also have gyms with weights and calisthenics at each of these truck stops.

All that processed food is super high in salt so you must be careful with that as well. Having the invertor is a nice touch to heat up home cooked meals

A note on the protein powders though… Whey protein “isolate” is ideal for muscle gain & weight loss. Be sure you’re not consuming a Whey protein “concentrate” as this can be counterproductive to WeightLoss and are often cheaper Due to the use of fillers and sweeteners

I haul gas so I’m in and out of the truck- the otr thing seems nearly impossible to eat right. Exercise can be managed but the food is hard to dial in.

It would be nice if calisthenic areas were added to truck stops. All you need is push ups, dips, squats, and pull ups. Weights on the weekends.

Any trouble grabbing a daily shower on the road? I'm a serious exerciser. Wanting to maintain my daily fitness effort. But also want to hit the rack washed up if possible. I'm new to trucking and looking for my first company and seriously considering pursuing work with TMC. I've heard on a few other videos that "for some reason" flatbedding is harder on finding a daily shower. Any truth to that?

Would like to see some ziploc meal prep just take out of fridge, un zip and add to a portable gas griddle cooking outside truck for safety. Healthy freshly done meals. Just to ditch the microwave once in a while.....any truckers out there that used to warm up their food wrapped in aluminum thin foil and heated it on top of truck engine?
