    I bought an Italian belt a while ago, it's made out of multicoloured strands of what seem to be stretchy para cord, and there are no holes in it - the tongue just slips through the weave so you can adjust it pretty much infinitely. And being multicoloured it pretty much goes with anything informal. I love it.

      I got my ears pierced with some small cheap gold plated cubic zirconia studs. During the six week healing period every time l went out , l had no end of female attention, (this hardly ever happened prior to having pierced ears with earrings).
      After the six week healing period was up, l went out and brought some quality small gold 3mm diamond studs. If anything this seemed to make me even more attractive to the opposite sex and 30 years plus later at 53, those studs look as good as the day l got them, even if l don't look as good. I still receive complimentary remarks from women even now about my earrings, so money well spent
      Whether it's a hat ,earrings or an item of clothing, l think some women are attracted to men who are prepared to be a little different, not necessarily following the rules.

    Great video John.
    The most important point is proper fitting clothes. Unfortunately most men have no idea what their inseam, waist, sleeve, collar, and chest measurements are. The money you spend on tailoring is the best return on money spent on your wardrobe. You could wear Armani and still look like a mess if it doesn't fit....spend $50 - $100 on tailoring and BAM!

    Your videos are amazing and full of very useful advice. Years ago ( I am 77 now) I watched American Gigolo and was impressed by his style and shortly afterwords I worked at Nordstrom where the female staff gave me a make over to point me in the direction of current styles. It was eye opening as it was from the point of a female perspective. I'm good with the hat and the light coloured jackets. Been wearing those jackets for years. I like the oatmeal textured fabrics rather than a plain fabric. With MPB, hats cover it, and keep my scalp warm in winter. I go for smaller brims than fedoras or borsalinos, a bit too theatrical for me, again mid-dark oatmeal textured fabrics, although I do go full white in hot summer. Green bowls (or cricket umpires) hats are the thing for that. Modern cars aren't great for crown hats. Not much headroom, so watch you don't knock the hat off!
    I'm with you on the infinite adjust buckle, but I use a webbing belt buckle, which uses a cam/roller action to fasten. It came already with a pair of pants, but I've seen the buckles available separately. I like a looser belt for sitting, and tighter for standing/walking, so the quick adjust stuff is good. For pants I'm currently going for black jeans with no fake wear and black stitching so they can pass for suit pants. They have elastane and what I call a 'streaky dye', so they're again not a plain fabric. Unfortunately that fabric seems to be OOS everywhere, so I'm looking for alternatives.

      Chelseas, regardless of upper material are always marred by that hideous tacky looking elasticated fabric panel. If it was on the outside and concealed behind a continuation of the leather upper, forming a covering terminating a little behind the fabric, Its rear edge free to allow the panel to flex while remain hidden from view. then they would actually look pretty sleek, but as currently made, the elastic panel will always look naf, (uk for crap) straight out of the box, and looks crappo majori long before the rest of the boot shows significant wear. Chukkas exude style and quality and look good for longer, and when they are worn in and no longer pristine they pair well with denim or twill, whereas Chelseas when no longer pristine can only pair well with the inside of a trash can.

You just leave with the Bartender when you order your drink before you move to the dining table. In "my day" American Express in some manner "tagged" the cards if you had virtually bottomless Credit, creates a level of service from the Hotel staff that will not only impress a lady, but it will impress every one else who may be sitting at the table. You can improve your usual outfit, but not necessarily change it completely
      When I walk the streets for example and observe people's dressing style, online fashion models, etc., I then pick what I personally like and suitable to my taste.
      The flat white sneakers for example, no way for me to pick one, and that's fine.
      One good rule is to know the rules then be comfortable breaking them
      You also could figure out how to check your size. Like placing my hand extended over the arm pit area of a shirt, if it fits the shirt fits. The arm length can be easily adjusted by a tailor. I use that tip to measure trouser/pants waist size as well.
      I can also add to not give up on finding the proper fit out there. Countless brand names and you can find something somewhere. Just go out and don't be shy to try and know how to deflect those aggressing salesperson.
      Last tip, try a denim shirt if you never had. I own one from Eaton on a discount, and another from Peter Manning NYC.

    Anson belts. Fantastic. I have eight belt/buckle sets and think they are great. Can't say enough good things about them. They look great and the fit is perfect. What I like is that I can discreetly tighten or loosen them as the day progresses. I've given these belts to my sons-in-law and they were very impressed with them. Seriously, Guys, give them a try. You will go back for more.

    I’m a plain tee and jeans guy. I don’t have the work or social setting that encourages the wearing of nicer attire. My biggest issue is comfort but mostly the fit. My question is how do you get your clothes to fit so well?

    • @40OverFashion
      @40OverFashion  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for commenting! Try sizing down to see if shirts and jeans fits better (but not too tight). Also spending a few dollars at the tailor can help a lot.

      I don't like beards - not even stubble! Beards are uncomfortable when nuzzling and really yuck when kissing. Plus beards make men look older. The only reason I can understand for a beard is if you are trying to hide acne scars or some other facial deformation. Cut back on your fancy shoes and watches. Better to invest in some facials and laser resurfacing.

  • @Christopher-today

    A good list. Here's a couple of things to think about that are either things I've experienced or things a few female friends have said look good.
    1. Hats really don't work on short guys. This is coming from a very short guy. I know Bruno Mars can pull it off but hats kind of put a "lid" on the vertical line all short males try to maintain. Not sure if you or you're female friends would agree but this is my take on them. It's a pity too as I like hats.
    2. An item my female friends (3 out of 4) look for is a watch. It doesn't even have to be a really fancy watch just appropriate to the outfit. They say it shows a sign of maturity and "put togetherness" that's missing in non-watch wearers. It's similar to eye glasses in that regard. 2 of them also said fashion watches like MVMT are a turnoff on any guy over 30.
    3. I find gun metal to be a super useful colour for a buckle. Depending on its shape it's very easy to dress up or down and works well with any colour belt. As far as shape, stat away from the standard "horseshoe" shape if you want to dress it up. Well in my opinion anyway.
    Always enjoy the content,
    Christopher

    So I have several different sport jackets, med brown, dark blue and light tan. What is, or is there a “rule” with colour or shade matching, ie: dark jacket/light pant or vis versa, or is there any such rule?

    • @40OverFashion
      @40OverFashion  4 місяці тому

      As far as tops and bottoms, there isn’t really a hard rule. I would generally go with a darker jacket personally. With complementary colors, check out the Canva color wheel.

    I have a few hats (Flat cap) but find it to be something I only wear seasonally. Specifically in the fall or winter. I find it hard to pull off the look during warmer weather. I like to style the hat with a nice scarf and nicely fitted P-coat. Is there an ideal hat that would work better in warmer weather or is it a thing of less is more in the warmer weather?
