I was born in 1997. I hadn't even heard of group B until Top Gear covered the life of Lancia years ago. Even then, I thought nothing of it. I played racing video games as I grew up, starting with Forza and then broadening to other games. then, I started watching gameplay of DiRT Rally 2.0, specifically of the Audi Quattro S1. I was fascinated by it: The noise, the speed. So, I decided to find it in other games I played, mainly Forza Horizon 4. I fell in love. It was incredible. Bombing around dirt tracks at insane speeds, winning race after race, all from the comfort of my own home. I was hooked. I tried every car, the O37, the 205 T16, the 6R4. And after testing them all, I found my place behind the wheel of the Lancia Delta S4. I loved every second of it. I drove it everywhere I could. I was infatuated by the thing. Yet, I wanted to know more. It only felt right. I looked up the car's specs to make it all true to life as possible. I learned about the car's history, about the mysterious Group S cars, about every car and driver that raced, the roads they raced on. About Toivonen, about Mouton, about Rohrl. Before, I only knew about how dangerous it all was, like a child being taught about the "scary" next-door neighbour. Only to find out he was harmless later in life. But now that I've absorbed it into my life... Group B is possibly my favourite motorsport *ever*. Just the sight, the sound, the spectacle... all of it gives me such nostalgic joy. I was never alive when Group B lit up the racing world. I was never there to see Toivonen die. I was never there in '83, when Lancia defeated Audi, in a last defiant hurrah for RWD rallying. And I was never there as Michelle Mouton broke the mould and became the world's first successful female racing driver. but, I can still feel the drama, the excitement, the fear, the sadness and the joy that those lucky few in the 80's would have experienced as they stood by the track and watched these heroes of steel and rubber go by in an orchestra of engine roars and turbo squeals. Group B still gives me chills. Group B makes me so incredibly excited. *Group B is like watching a dream I never had, but deep down wanted to be there so, so badly.*
Thanks for all the love on this video guys (and girls) !!! I did not think it would be this popular. It just goes to show that Group B has ascended the limits of time and made itself immortal. Loved and respected by the old being discovered by those too young to remember a time before mobile phones and the internet.
I know Olympus rally, argentina and Ivory coast were not the most popular rallies in the season back in the 80s, but that's not a reason for ignoring them. I know argentinian fans especially would feel some disrespect towards them. Also, you almost ignored Portugal and put only very few images of Corsica, that looks more like censorship. Those may be sad memories, but come on, not to the point to avoid them. But very beautiful video anyway.

Amazing footage! Was searching for full Group B races, but I'm wondering if those even exist on the net. If it even was aired over tv back in those days. Although even if it was aired on tv back then, you'd had to have someone recording it for rewatching. But these highlights are of course nice too. Kinda hope Group B can make a full return sometime, but in a way it's safe for everyone while in some way retaining the excitement, spectacle and so on of the Group B from the past. Who knows. Great video!

Henri Toivonen après sa victoire au RAC en 1985 remporte le Monte Carlo 1986 devant Timo Salonen champion du monde en 1985 avec la firme sochalienne et Hannu Mikkola sur Audi Sport Quattro , Toivonen aurait pu gagner le rallye de Suède mais malheureusement il a abandonner laissant Juha Kankkunen remporter sa première victoire au volant de la 205 T16 lui qui avait remporter deux victoire au volant d'une Toyota Celica Twin Cam Turbo au Safari en 1985 et en Côte - D'Ivoire . Le rallye du Portugal est marquer par le seau de la tragédie avec l'accident de Joachim Santos et de Miguel Oliveira causant la mort de trois spectateurs dû en grande parti à l'indiscipline du public portugais , ce qui a provoquer la révolte des pilotes pour réclamer plus de sécurité ainsi que le retrait d'Audi du championnat du monde 1986. Si Henri Toivonen avait remporter le rallye de la Costa-Smeralda en Sardaigne ses deux coéquipiers Alèn et Biasion participait au Safari Rallye avec leurs 037 ce qui est une grave erreur alors qu'ils avaient la Delta S4 qui est une voiture ultra compétitive qui leur permet de gagner ce rallye et d'augmenter encore plus leur chance au championnat constructeur mais ce qu'il faut retenir c'est surtout le drame qui a secoué le Tour de Corse puisque le 2 Mai 1986 Henri Toivonen et son copilote Sergio Cresto ont trouver la mort à bord de leur Delta S4 alors qu'il était tout prêt de la victoire sur l'île de Beauté et le duel Toivonen Kankkunen n'aura finalement pas lieu , la guerre Alèn Kankkunen rythme le reste de la saison 86 avec les succès du pilote Peugeot mais en même temps un pilote italien s'est fait un nom Massimo Biasion qui lui obtient deux deuxième place à l'Acropole et en Nouvelle -Zélande et une victoire en Argentine . Sans oublier le scandale du San Rémo avec l'exclusion des Peugeot pour une histoire de non respect du règlement technique . Peugeot remporte le titre constructeur et pilote avec Juha Kankkunen , Lancia est devenu vice -champion du monde des constructeurs avec la S4 et Markku Alèn vice -champion du monde des pilotes . Henri Toivonen aurait pu être champion du monde des pilotes 1986

Love all the Lancia S4 footage. Henry was the best with the S4.
He was the only one who could drive that car to its limits.
And according to the drivers, Markku Alen and Miki Biasion in particular, the S4 was maybe at 70% of its potential.

Le rallye du Portugal est marquer par le seau de la tragédie avec l'accident de Joachim Santos et de Miguel Oliveira causant la mort de trois spectateurs dû en grande parti à l'indiscipline du public portugais , ce qui a provoquer la révolte des pilotes pour réclamer plus de sécurité ainsi que le retrait d'Audi du championnat du monde 1986. Si Henri Toivonen avait remporter le rallye de la Costa-Smeralda en Sardaigne ses deux coéquipiers Alèn et Biasion participait au Safari Rallye avec leurs 037 ce qui est une grave erreur alors qu'ils avaient la Delta S4 qui est une voiture ultra compétitive qui leur permet de gagner ce rallye et d'augmenter encore plus leur chance au championnat constructeur mais ce qu'il faut retenir c'est surtout le drame qui a secoué le Tour de Corse puisque le 2 Mai 1986 Henri Toivonen et son copilote Sergio Cresto ont trouver la mort à bord de leur Delta S4 alors qu'il était tout prêt de la victoire sur l'île de Beauté et le duel Toivonen Kankkunen n'aura finalement pas lieu , la guerre Alèn Kankkunen rythme le reste de la saison 86 avec les succès du pilote Peugeot mais en même temps un pilote italien s'est fait un nom Massimo Biasion qui lui obtient deux deuxième place à l'Acropole et en Nouvelle -Zélande et une victoire en Argentine . Sans oublier le scandale du San Rémo avec l'exclusion des Peugeot pour une histoire de non respect du règlement technique . Peugeot remporte le titre constructeur et pilote avec Juha Kankkunen , Lancia est devenu vice -champion du monde des constructeurs avec la S4 et Markku Alèn vice -champion du monde des pilotes . Henri Toivonen aurait pu être champion du monde des pilotes 1986
