I'm an adult Beginner of 5 Years and I Like Your Videos I Hope to watch your Free Training when I get a moment I don't like classical Lessons I'm actually looking For more Pop/Christian Pop even though I want to Play Some Classical and I'm one of those Pianists stuck Playing Mary had a Little Lamb.
When I went through the five finger exercises', I said to myself, there has got to be a better way. I soon found that yes there was. It uses the ear as a guide to the development of chords outside the standard harmonic standard. I first had to clear my mind of what piano teachers deem correct and expand my mind to accept a wider idea of what is musical. although it took lots of practice it was not too long to find a whole new approach time signatures, chord changes, and development section, in a new look at music. These changes led me to writing music for 6 ballet companies in New York City.
I.m new, all green. I have had a passion for playing for a long time. I sang with a gospel group for a while and that really reminded me of spending my piano lesson on a pool game when I was young. So long story short, here I am and I think you are a fantastic instructor and I will be communicating with you in the near future and Thanks a million!
i like the instruction to work on each section, especially thee tough spots till you master them. the thing i want to learn better is using fills and riffs in worship songs.
Hi Im a beginner also in piano lesson keyboard. I can read notes music sheet. Im glad to see ur channel. Im refreshing also my piano lessons too. Im starting all over again and again. Ive learned a lot from u. Thanks so much. Im from Philippines
I started teaching myself piano a couple of years ago with UA-cam then I stopped. Did it for a couple of months but did not progress much. Now I thought about starting again and I found your video. This is a great way to practice since I didn't know what to do before. My biggest challenge is keeping all of my fingers on the correct keys at I go up and down the piano especially my pinkies and ring fingers. I am also 62 and disabled and my hand dexterity is not as good as it used to be
I am SOO Happy! I JUST started and I'm here I am playing (a scale) with TWO HANDS the first time I tried!! Never imagined that I'd be using two hands-at the same time on a piano!! THANK YOU!!
I love your gentle but clear teaching style ❤ My 2 little girls have just started piano lessons and I'm relearning what I knew 30 years ago too. Your channel is going to be watched daily by all of us. 😊
Thank you lots of brilliant advice, never learning much music but years of singing I tried, clarinet, drums, flute, guitar but much prefer keyboard, bought a dinky one as a child but wish I'd kept it up.
Thank you very much for gentle teachings, I am strugling to differentiate between chords and solfars plus knowing which key to play with my left hand to match the right one
I Struggle with my fingers. First is strength to push hard into the key. Next is the LH 5 (pinky) and RH 1 (thumb) to be coordinated. But I am working and practicing on this. Thanks, Art
Namasthe, Thanks for the presentation.Notes for each chord can be shown on the screen. That wd be more helpful.Your teaching style is much appreciated.🙏🏻
Thank you so much. Just finished the first exercises and I am now on the second exercises. I cannot still play with my both hands simultaneously and still uses the wrong fingers at times but I will keep on practicing until I can play it using the correct fingers. I am so excited to learn from your other videos after I these exercises. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
C major scale may be the easiest to understand the backbone concept of how scales are formed by sight and ear using semitones and tones, and then translate that to the remaining 11 scales. But this is the first time I understand the reason for using D flat scale even though initially it looks dauntingly difficult - it is to familiarise the beginner with finger work playing by synchronising the usage of both thumbs
Great information. I am a 65 year old man who's been dabbling with guitar and other instruments for the past few years. I've learned a lot but putting it together on any instrument is a painful struggle with not any truly satisfying outcomes. I began keyboard last December and like other instruments the struggle is the same. I like the way you started out with the warm up routine and then move forward to further steps. Thanks for sharing your experience and teaching progress. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.!
there’s also a video by marks piano called “Complete Piano Theory Course: Chords, Intervals, Scales & More!” HUGE help for beginners to learn piano theory and understand even more what you are playing. i’m only 16 and this 2 hour course helped me so much to become basically intermediate on keyboard
I purchased the book you recommended and got it yesterday. Its amazing, thank you so much for that recommendation. Its good to get information from various places to see the explanations provided in different ways. Some of the things they talk about I have no clue about, like a 'Dominant seventh arpeggio', but that will come in time. Your series plus my weekly instruction is really helping. As an aside, I'm listening to music a totally different way since I started learning piano. While I might not be able to name chords being played, I recognize them and the progressions in the music. Great stuff! [edit] Oh,as far as problems I have, I find myself getting bored of practicing after about 30-40 minutes, especially if I am getting frustrated with not getting one thing right, and I keep doing it over and over. I found that if i break up my practicing into smaller blocks that helps overcome the boredom issue, as well as allows my brain to digest what I have been doing. Two sessions of 20 minutes per day seems better than one long 40-50 minute session.
I’m glad my videos are helping! And to your practice comment- I usually go 45 minutes and never any longer without a break. There is some research that you cannot focus very well for more than 45 min. Always take a break after that 👍
Absolutely loved the beginning of your video… You went a little fast when starting to learn a new song…as a beginner, I was wondering if you could do a video learning a new song a little slower. Thanks!
Slowly play during my lessons from the app I’m not quite a beginner nor intermediate I’m in between the two since I started making beats in 2014 with no music background I’ve been studying chords since then now I’m learning to play the piano it’s been two months that I’ve started actually playing and I’m a little bit to fast for the piano teaching apps I use to the point they don’t pick up on the note and mark it wrong and reading each note a little tricky sometimes
I almost completely self-taught. I did take lessons years ago when my daughter took them. I have been pushing pretty hard these last few years to regain what I lost when I didn't have any real direction and had to apply my time to my nursing role. Now that I am retired, I try for at least 2 hours a day. But now my memory doesn't work as well. I have applied all the hard work and diligence you advocate in your videos. I have watched a lot of great videos and learned a great deal. I do tend to get bored and struggle with any program for too long. have developed good sight-reading habits and learned all the notes on the keyboard. Now I am learning the scales. I like how you direct your students to learn the scales and the chords. I have worked hard to learn those chords but I am not solid even on the c major scale chords. Seeing you play them and playing along with you, does really help me to make sense of it all. And now I know how to use the damper pedal. I love how you use chords to figure out the songs. I would love to develop that skill. I do plan to use your videos for direction so I can get this skill and play more of what I love without having to break down all the music of the songs I really want to learn and play. You are a lovely teacher with a lot of talent and a beautiful voice. I am not so lucky. I struggle with to sing and always have. But being able to play music and songs in my key is what drives me to play the piano. Even without a good voice. I still love to sing to my music. Thank you for all your hard work and efforts. it has been a challenge to find a piano teacher that will mentor older students. I can see my motivation and my direction improve a lot following your videos.
I really like and love to sing a lot. I dont have a good voice too. But I can play piano keyboard read notes music sheet. But now still tryinh to enhance my singing too. Bcause i really like to sing a lot. Just keep on singing. music is my life too.
It's an amazing style of teaching, you teach everything slowly and it's very important for beginners. I'm full of hope i will know everything about piano by your youtube video. Finally i love your teaching style keep up your good work.!
I started learning the piano two days ago lol this video is going to help me practice, thank you so much! I know I'm really a beginner but I found myself struggling a lot to keep the rhythm in my right hand while playing other chords with my left hand.
One of the best videos about practice routine I've seen. In my opinion, you're absolutely right: we ought to start with warm up + scales + chords. I'd also add arpeggios of that particular scale as well, followed by one Hanon exercise. Then, and only then, we could kick off our "real study" - I mean, any method in particular (books, videos, one-on-one lesson etc) and repertoire. Best regards!
Hello Kaitlyn, As I have chubby hands with short fingers, should I practice my chords (ex. C Major, etc...) with my right-hand fingers 1 2 4 instead of 1 3 5, because it seems easier for me. Or should I keep using 1 3 5? Remember, I am a real beginner, I just bought my first keyboard. What about my left hand... Which fingers should I use? I have a long way to go, and I want to start on "the right note". Buy the way, thank you so much for everything (videos, cheat sheets, etc.). You'll be,for sure, very helpful!
Another very helpful and encouraging video for my piano journey. Thank you! The thing I struggle most with in practicing piano is making the time. But as you say, even 10 minutes can be productive!
I’m a total beginner to learning piano. I’m struggling with fingers as I am used to using right fingers due to the nature of work ( accounts work using numeric keys in keyboard everyday). My left fingers are more idle than right. I guess the finger exercise will be very helpful.
Hey Katelyn, you are the best... I accidentally came across your channel by chance and subscribed immediately. Why? because you really simplify things that people who are competent can easily do,so they assume that beginners can do the same. I have an advantage, because I am actually a musician who actually am familiar with most things on the piano. But your lessons are teaching me little techniques I’m not aware of. ❤❤❤🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿😎👍
Just saw your video tonight. I am trying to learn how to play the piano and your practice routine is what I have been looking for. You ask what I am having a tough time with? the red fingernail pollish really helps me see where your fingers are placed
You are a hell of a good teacher. I am a retired Chilean teacher who regrets not having come across your classes before

How did she go from the chord notation on Imagine to knowing what to play in what hand and how? Looked like magic to me.

Ultimate guitar is really good. I use it a lot for guitar chords

Can please post a video on different fingering for all scales please 🙏
You wonderful teacher,I will like to learn
I enjoyed your piano lessons thank you
I'm encouraged by you!
God bless you!!!
Hi Kaitlyn. Hand independence is the most difficult for me. Can you suggest some exercises to improve please? Thanks, Colin
I love the way you do it...
Very helpful advices. Thank you!
What I struggle most with practicing a piano? Wondering if I should buy Roland FP-10/Casio CDP-S110 or maybe Roland FP-30x/Kawai ES120 ;)
Veeery Nice, Training is everything!
Thank you so much for your amazing piano tutorials! Can you please make UA-cam videos for running or filling in accompaniment?
Very Nice ..
God Bless you..
Excellent teacher

Hey! Great material! I play at guitar and ukulele, and I have started with piano at November 2022 with cords from guitar sites, your movie just confirms my way with piano :-) I just need to practice scales like you showed in material. Thanks!! ❣
Thanks for your tips. Do you recommend the same routine for those of us who want to play traditional church music. By the way I am also retired and it seems that I am taking an inordinately loooongg time to master mysic.
Good teaching
Great video! Been playing for 2 years purely from muscle memory but not really understanding what im playing. Wanted to get back to basics and the way you've explained basic warm ups in this video is great! I always just start playing the songs im learning at the time and not focusing on what im doing. Will be watching many more of your videos! Thank you and please keep the videos coming!
I will try to comment again as my last didn't seem to save here. Had a passion to play piano for yr and love esp soft relaxing songs and some classic hits. Now retired with more time to learn but harder of course. No formal lessons yet except from some into bks but now mostly UA-cam. But very overwhelming with so many version available have tried and then get stuck and frustrated. I do love your warming exercises and will try all them. I am so anxious to learn some songs right away to give me confidence. I like your demo on "Imagine". But hard to tell some of the notes you are playing on chords such as CMaj7. I figure this must be an inversion but the graphics to not state that. Do you other videos get into more detail? Thank you Kaitlyn. Bruce
Love from India ,Nagaland
Thank you maam... At least im guided by your video. Im new here
Scales and correct fingering.
Thank you so much…
Thanks so much for this! Love your content!
Thanks for watching!
Got the book! Using it
Thanks for the video. I ll give that a try.
One more thing, you have a beautiful American accent.
Love your videos. 66yo who took lessons for 7 years as child ( took summers off to play outside). I have no speed on the keys and struggle with songs in keys with lots of sharps or flats. I have no routine for practice and I enjoy playing but I truly never master any favorite songs enough to play in front of others. I make too many mistakes and maybe I’m trying to master something beyond my level of expertise. I also have trouble singing along while just playing the chords. I’ve always just played r.h. Melody and l.h. Harmony. I am not sure w😊here to start backtracking to instruction I missed as a youngster. Any recommendations appreciated.
Very pretty lesson, I'm struggling to master my hands ✋️ 😢
As a guitarist for decades I really like Ultimate Guitar. I'm just starting piano. Question, what are your thoughts on having the circle of fifths as a reference?
Thanks. Do you have a technique or tutorial for learning the chords? I know you recommended a book. Thanks.
Thank you💖
Finger and hand coordination
I just found you on youtube and I am happy to meet you. I signed up for a 45 min meeting next week. Your presentations are excellent and I find them easy to follow. I look forward to our meeting next week. Thank you.
I look forward to it as well! 😊
Really nice and easy approach to learning piano for a beginner! Particularly, on how to play scales starting on Db? Love it!
