Thanks for that assessment test. It made me realize I am almost at full intermediate. I just need to work on 2nd and 3rd inversions of 7th chords in all the major keys.
Thanks for making me depressed Kaitlyn. I thought I was intermediate but you made me realize I'm still a beginner. I bought I keyboard 4 years ago at the start of the pandemic and have been teaching myself. 🎹 👍
Great way to self-evaluate. I've been taking online lessons for a little over 3 years and can play lots of songs but not as well as I would like. I know all the major scales and a few minor scales, and all my inversions, but struggle to make my playing sound smooth and add any enhancements. Probably halfway between beginner and intermediate.
Great video! I might have to check out jazz as a classical pianist. I'm currently a virtuoso in technical areas but an absolute beginner in improv. Looking forward to mastering these skills!
Thank you Kaitlyn, I’ve always wondered about how one goes from beginner to intermediate. I can do most of the things on your list, but not as proficient or smooth as I would like. I’d say I’m maybe late beginner or early intermediate, I guess.
Waaa! Still beginner. I meet some of the intermediate markers...if I'm being generous. LOL! This was a great video. Gives me some immediate goals to focus on. Thanks!
I guess I'm not sure where exactly I land. I've been an improve player for years, know my major, minor, dimished chords, sus4, add2, 7th, maj7, use chord sheets, play fills, runs, blues scales, tritone subs, chord extensions, understand b5, #9, etc. BUT, I still don't know all my scales, cannot read music notation, and have never had a lesson. Guess I'm a hybrid of sorts.
Do you know how many people enter collage for a degree in piano performance but don’t have all there scales down? More than you would think, they can play advanced music but not play scales fluently, I would still count them as advanced players lacking foundational skills.
I can show you pianists who can sight read advanced music sheets but who cannot play from a lead sheet to save their lives. These are also pianists who cannot improvise. Some people weren't trained the way that you train, but that does not lock them into the beginner tag.
Totally - I said in the beginning of the video that there are different ways to classify this... and this applies to people who want to play The Beatles, Billy Joel, etc. etc.
I would like to say I'm a intermediate, But many people would say I'm not. I'm okay with the music in front of me, take it away & I can't remember the order of the chords. So frustrating.
I am definitely still a beginner, but I'm also not your core audience: I'm not trying to learn how to play chords for songs I like and improvise, I'm looking for challenging piano pieces that sound great on their own, no vocals, no other instruments. I certainly should learn scales at least, but I don't think I really need chords right now.
@@richard135b7 the thing is, I find this boring, and this channel tries provide motivation for studying chord that doesn't align with why I play piano. I don't care about playing chord tabs for my favorite songs, I want crunchy cool piano solos :)
@@richard135b7 thanks for your thoughts! It's definitely something to think about. I recently did start reading sheet music, and though I don't know the chords, I still slowly start to see multiple notes played at the same time as something whole, not note by note. But it's mostly intuition based on intervals between notes right now. I really don't want to just drill chords, it's not something I find fun to do, I'd rather study arpeggios and scales, I find them... cooler? I don't have too much free time, and I want my piano journey to be fun, and I don't currently find chords fun.
I also started studying with a teacher, and she helps a lot with my terrible technique, I don't think this is something I could've learned without a proper teacher seeing how I play live. She "hates" that I learned Clementi op 36 n 3, because I have wrong muscle memory that needs to be relearned from scratch lol, but music like that is what I find fun to play.
👋Thanks for watching! To learn more about how to acquire these skills, I recommend checking out my free training! www.try.piano.ly/free-training
Respect to all beginners, we all started at the begining , remember to enjoy the journey.
Yes! Always enjoy the journey!! Because with piano, truthfully the journey goes on forever. :)
I thought i was an intermediate but you pushed me back at the beginner’s level !! LOL
Same here!
Haha, well know you know what skills to acquire to get there. You can do it!
Me too!
Definitely a beginner...maybe beginner and a half..😆I have a way to go. Luckily I love it so much that I won't quit. Love this video! So helpful.
Glad you found it helpful!!

That's great. Good job!
I smiled when you played We Are The Champions Queen are my favourite band.
I had fun playing it! :)

I’m still a beginner but I’ll be an intermediate soon, thanks a lot for this content, now I clearly know what I have to improve in order to get there!
I don't know where I am but I won't quit. Love this video, so much helpful. Appreciate your hard work 👏👏👏👏

Hi, I don´t play jazz , or popular music, so I don´t use lead sheets. How can we know where we are in classical music. Thank you for your video
Definitely I would call myself a long term beginner wanting to become intermediate.
I've been a long term beginner for 12 years... 12 YEARS T∆T
Sis can you tell how to remember chords of any song easily
Please

Definitely a beginner. I would say I'm a beginner who knows enough intermediate to be dangerous!
Am a beginner. Please do a video intermediate to advanced and advanced to pro . It would be very interesting. Thank you in advance 🙏
Could be interesting. Thanks for the suggestion!

Where do I find the accelerator program?
You can learn more about it in my free training! www.try.piano.ly/free-training
Before watching I was pretty sure I am a beginner, now I know for sure, I'm a beginner! But that's fine, I've got something to aim for 😁
Is there an entry beginner level?

Agree with Richard - chords are the foundation no matter the genre. You'll be reading music way faster if you know your chords.

I thought I was almost intermediate, but know I now I’m definitely a beginner!
😂😂😂
Intermediate but i have to practice on lead sheet part
I started playing piano since 8 but I eventually gave up at grade 6 classics and I am now 60, sorry I didn't carry on and get my BMus
I’m an aspiring beginner!
Have you bought a keyboard yet?
Wow, tough love!
😆
Thank you so much. ❤
Still a beginner. Enjoyed the video though.
Hi Katylin I am a beginner.
Nice!
As a hobby pianist "intermediate" means that you are pretty good, not mediocre. I guess the majority of hobby players is "beginner".
I'm a very beginner! 😀
Keep practicing and you'll get to intermediate!
@@pianoly YES!
Beginners 😊
I,m an intermediate but i still got a long way to go .
The journey will always keep going with piano for everyone.. so just enjoy the ride! :)
