- We went back to Rio Las Vegas after visiting a few months ago. When we stayed there last time, I said I wouldn't return unless I could stay in a remodeled room. So, I booked one! Dang, if all the renovations are on the level of how they redid the rooms, the Rio might become a really cool place again. It's a massive shame how much it was left to rot over the last several years.

Your video was great! Rio used to be my favorite hotel in vegas when going with my family bcs the rooms were really spacious and not expensive. After the pandemic this hotel went down and it was just trash. I am so happy they remodeled it and new owners took over. Hopefully it can come back strong! The rooms look great. Thank you for your very informative video 👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you so much for sharing! I used to stay there with my parents in the 90's. Best hotel in Vegas. It was like going back to my childhood. Glad the hotel is still operational. When I go back to Vegas, I will absolutely stay there!
It’s been in rough shape for several years now. A far cry from the 90s but hopefully when you come back, she’ll be in better shape!

Yes I would stay there again, I’m there right now March 2024 and the revamp is it 10 out of 10.
Still in progress, but I’m glad they’re doing a good job with it.
Caesar’s ran this property into the ground. This new company is doing a great job bringing it back to life

Just need a monorail to the strip - its only about half a mile so wont cost too much compared to closing the hotel down - the Rio would win and so would the strip with the free flow of people via the monorail

I used to love the Rio, so many great memories there. Not to mention the Voodoo lounge...STORIES, lol. It was great to gamble there, go to the club, get tipsy and go right up to your room. Many goos times there. I hope the re-open it, the views of the strip and Vegas are amazing at night.
I remember those kidney tables though 🤭. I'm sad the buffet is gone forever, I remember when it was the BEST in Vegas, great selection too The parade in the sky was so amazing, I miss those days. But look forward to going there in the future.
The buffet was the best! We are there a few times. I loved getting the beads in the parade. And yes, it was a great, self-contained hotel. Let’s hope that they bring that feeling back!
I drove by the Rio a few days ago and it looked noticeably better from the exterior. With that said, the property is hard to trust. It's been such a dirty and broken down disappointment for a long time. Maybe I missed it but I would be interested to know pricing. With all of the choices in Vegas it might be difficult to pay typical prices for that hotel given its recent history. Awesome update though! Thank you!
I think Caesars gave up on Rio and when they sold it in 2021 (but stayed on as operator) the neglect was really noticeable. Weekday prices are about $30 but weekends are $200 many weekends. Some weekends are cheaper but some even more than $200. Just depends on what’s going on in town.

We stayed in October and liked the rooms although the upgraded version is better. It was a comp so no complaining here.
Our previous room was just really beat up, too depressing! 😂
I like the decor…way better then what was done when they changed to Monte Carlo to Park MGM.
Yeah, I’m not a big fan of the room decor at Park either. Not sure who decided on that green!

One of my friends who was there at the same time also requested an upgraded room. Had same issues with lack of warm/hot water. She got home and checked her account and they had billed her for both the cancelled room and the upgraded room. Apparently they didn't 'upgrade' her, they just gave her a second room. She's now fighting with them because they think she stayed in both rooms.
There's a new report (I think second?) of an internal break in and theft of a room while guests were sleeping.
This hotel is a complete mess...

I see they got rid of the peek a boo window into the shower from the living room. I remember that feature of the room back in the 90's . Looks like in the old photos yours was covered up by a large mirror that was added later to cover it up but thats what that small sguare looking window was in the shower room. Also I call the table the flintstones Brontosaures Ribs, lol
Wow, I don’t remember the windows. My memory is terrible! Yes, the brontosaurus ribs is the perfect name for the table 🤣😂

I'm debating between booking Rio (using points cost me 9000 UR points, no resort fee) vs Paris (cash price: also around $90 including resort fee). Any inputs?
You said they didn't add usb usb c plugs. They are in the side lamps. You can see it in your video right side of the lamp
Yes, I should clarify that I’m needy! I need the lamp usb & outlet for my phone & Apple watch, but we probably have 7-8 devices that we need to charge daily. I find these lamp plugs in older rooms, but more modern ones have banks of outlets. In this room I had things plugged into just about every wall outlet 😂🤣 UA-cam problems, I know.

I think the Ipanema Tower renovated rooms are just okay.
You can tell that they kind of did them on the cheap, and I'm personally not a fan of the #FUGLY couch and carpet. I also think the vanity looks kind of chintzy still. However on the flip side, Dreamscape did openly acknowledge from the onset that they weren't trying to compete with or emulate the likes of high-end luxury resorts like Wynn/Encore, Venetian/Palazzo and the Bellagio in their room remodeling but, rather, "approachable luxury"...........and while it's debatable this kind of room meets the litmus test of "approachable luxury" or not: I do think the themed lighting is cute, and I also like the renovated shower. I think the clientele they're targeting are those who also like value Strip resorts like New York New York, Planet Hollywood and Sahara.
Apparently Dreamscape have amassed a lot of capital for the Rio's overall renovation, so I'm holding faith the resort's overall renovation will be more ambitious and won't be fairly cheaply done as it was with the Ipanema Tower rooms. I have a genuine soft spot for this resort and almost feel like a concerned friend on its behalf when I glimpse it: like Caesars Entertainment resembled an abusive ex who manipulated Rio and left her depressed like Lola in the "Copacabana" song..............except in this case I'm rooting for a feel-good comeback story for Rio over these next several years much like the Plaza has had this year. 🙂

Interesting they cut some corners when it comes to the remodel… especially the mattress, that and the tile should have been removed and replaced at minimum.
Defiantly want to check it out eventually, but I will hold off until they get the property dialed in.
Agreed, could have been a little more complete with a few additional changes. But, from what I understand, they’re not looking to compete with the luxury hotels, so I suppose this will do.
They did cut corners. The bathrooms needed a complete overhaul. Not just a new shower.
Thanks for the video i was looking at the rio and the gold coast for our stay in February. What is the walk to the strip like please? Is there a decent path or is it really far through a rough neighbourhood?
It’s not that it’s a tough neighborhood, but this will be a 29-25 min walk on a very busy street (Flamingo). It’s just a LOT of cars and not ideal for pedestrians.

Just came back from 6 days at Rio. I was scheduled for 7 days and just couldn't take staying longer. Jack hammering week days going on in center of casino. No predictable running hot water in the rooms (I experienced this myself 5 of the 6 mornings and spoke with dozens others staying at hotel who said same). $30 up charge on the remodeled rooms and no hot water.
As for the food court, meh. Philly cheesesteak was ok, nothing special. The ramen was ok, nothing special either. The root beer float at the hamburger place was good but the onion rings were so-so. I didn't try the chicken place but had one guest tell me he thought it was the best of the things he'd had there.
I did get the wonton soup from the Chinese restaurant across from the food court, and promptly got sick. My guess is it was made that morning (hopefully) and possibly previous day(s). Dim sum there has always been hit and miss. Go when it's busy for best chance of fresh.
I won't go back to Rio and think the hype I'm seeing in 'review' videos on UA-cam are more to post something rather than the reality we all know. Rio is old, tired, and fading away. It's far too expensive for what it offers.
Why is it surprising there are reports of break ins. Two evenings I saw a security guard and another night a maid on the floor when they wouldn't usually be there. I'm not saying something was happening, it's just very very unusual.
Oh no!!! We are scheduled to go back! I can deal with a tired casino, but no hot water?!? 😱 We haven’t tried the food court. I’m keeping expectations low there anyway 😂. We shall see what happens.

We had booked it through the Hyatt app and it just said 1 King Room. When we checked in, they just said they were putting us in a remodeled room. I say just ask. There are still rooms that are not remodeled. The masquerade tower hasn’t been touched yet. The Ipanema tower has the new rooms, but I’m uncertain that they’re 100% new rooms.
Is the whole facility being renovated or just the rooms and when will the renovations be completed
This is a massive $350M renovation that will take a few years in phases. But they’re doing renovation all over, not just the rooms 😃

Staying here right now. Our room is just like the one on the video but we have a fantastic view of Bellagio, Ceasers and all the other resorts in that area. The room is fantastic but they could have replaced the toilet, and tile. No one has 12 inch tiles anymore. It’s a work in progress as the total completion of the renovations will probably take a few years
I stayed there in June, and my room wasn't as bad as yours, but it was dated, the 15 year old plasma tv, old furniture. The update looks nice though I did like the large bathroom walk in area. Which tower were you in?
We were in the Ipanema tower both times. This is where they are starting with the remodel and then will move on to the Masquerade tower. The large bathroom area is nice. The size overall was great! Even though they skimped out in areas, we did enjoy the new room.

Sort of all over but Weekdays as low as$29 but weekends can be about $200. We paid only $38 or so for the weekend though so not bad.
