I've worked on Las Vegas Blvd in multiple aspects of hotel operations for about 10 years now. Please do not do the $20 "trick", and PLEASE with sprinkles on top don't get angry with the Front Desk Agent if an upgrade is not available! Not every Front Desk Agent is going to accept a bribe, and sometimes an upgrade is simply not possible even for guests who are willing to pay for it the correct way. Plus accepting the $20 "trick" can get people fired. These hotel companies take their bottom line extremely seriously and you are inadvertently putting an innocent person just trying to do their job in an awkward spot.
Great video! One tip as I get older is that even though it’s hot outside in the summer, the air conditioning in the casinos or restaurants can be very cold. I bring a light cardigan or pretty shawl to put over my shoulders.
The only mistake I've made is going too hard my first night! Luckily, I was staying at the Wynn, so I didn't mind chilling out in my room all day, recovering from the hangover! 😆
My husband and I went to Vegas for our honeymoon. We walked 8 miles in one day. We decided to walk from TI to Excalibur and back. We originally wanted to just walk to Excalibur to build up our appetite for the buffet since we got the 2 for 1 deal. Then we decided to just walk back after and explore all the casinos and shops on the way back.
Back in 2019, first trip to Vegas. I was so hammered the first night in Vegas. Went to bed at 9pm and had a major hungover the next day. Wasted two of the four days in Vegas. Not getting hammered on the first night ever , when in Vegas
Funny how we are experts in the price of Modello. Another good piece of advice is to plan and make dinner and show reservations ahead of your trip if you really want to go somewhere. A lot of times you cant get a good seat or dinner reservations while you are there. Great video. Also if you drive to Vegas make sure your vehicle is in good working order and subscribe to AAA like a couple of our good friends lol.
I didn’t have to research the Modelo prices 😂 all from memory 👍 AAA was a lifesaver 😅. The dealer diagnosed two major problems and both are covered under warranty 👍👍
My experience with the $20 trick: 1) half the time it works, the other half it doesn't. 😅 2) if you book thru a third party company (not the hotel directly) the front desk may not be able to upgrade. Again. Just my experiences
I'm not a LV rookie & I've still made a couple of these mistakes! I once bussed from Fremont Street back to my room on the strip at midnight, but got off the bus to use a bank ATM. Mistake! It was a dark, seedy neighborhood & that was the last bus at that stop! That left me on foot to The Strat where I found an active bus stop. Scary experience!
All solid rookie mistakes… I think the biggest one is going with a large group without a plan… you will waste so much time with trying to figure out what to do. Do your research before your trip, and come up with a general itinerary. 20$ trick is such a basic move 😂 Having credit card status is the best way to get a real upgrade and not just a room with a view.
Sat through a time share presentation once. The fellow signing us up on the strip said “I didn’t tell you this, but whatever you do don’t buy one of these. The maintenance fees are outrageous. Just go there and get your free stuff”
From the outside, the windows of the buildings are a lot bigger than regular building windows (& also the way they're divided helps give the illusion of less stories). This makes it seem like the buildings are smaller and closer to you than they really are.
I read all 171 comments below. They have some nice tips to addendum to yours. Great that you read and reply back to the posters. Las Vegas aka Lost Wages was one of the funnier ones by a subscriber.
We have the best viewers. Along with some who have never been to Vegas, we have some who know it like the back of their hand. We’ve learned so much from them, even as much as we go to Vegas! Thanks for watching.
Yes! Great points, Melissa! 😊 New sneakers = Blister city! Pack bandaids and corn pads. Sandals? Pop back into your room to wash your feet. Don't put all your cash in one place or compartment just in case. Just keep walking if anyone tries to corner you into a conversation.
Go to a grocery store, buy some food, drinks, etc and get cash back. The service fee, if any, should be smaller. Buy a book of stamps at a post office and get some cash back. Go buy something at a Target or a Wal-mart and get some cash back. You could end up with at least $100, probably more. It can be refreshing to get away from the gambling, the noise of the casinos, the crowds, etc.
WOW!!!! Awesome tips!!!! You covered most of them. If I had to add one more. Be careful if you take a CAB to your hotel. If they ask you if its the first time you've been to Vegas, they will take the long way to get to your hotel. Try using and Uber or Lyft. Much cheaper! and one more tip: Do NOT put your cell phone in your back pocket where it sticks out. If you go to Freak-mont Street and its crowded, people can bump into you and take your phone without you knowing. Anyway, thanks for sharing. Your video is awesome. I have a question for you. When booking your flight and hotel, what source should you use?? Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz OR should you book directly at the Hotel and airlines website? Thanks :)
100% agree don't overbook yourself! You'll never do Vegas in a day or even a week. SO....just resolve in your mind that you will make return trips & explore something different every time.

I'm a very seasoned traveler, but have never been to Vegas. Just started planning our family of 4 (2 adults, kids 10&13) Christmas vacation for 2024! Your videos are SO helpful!! Looking fwd to Christmas is VEGAS!!
Fun! We used to take our kids when they were about that age. They’ll have fun, I’m sure. The Christmas decorations are beautiful! Especially be sure to check out the Bellagio conservatory. They go all out!
One time I was at the mirage and a guy next to me was so drunk playing a slot he hit a jackpot, he got paid out but forgot to cash out the $660 he already had in there got up and left.
A rookie mistake that we fell victim to when we went is not taking advantage of the monorail/trams. While for a group setting the taxi services can be convenient, the costs add up fast. Several resorts on the strip are connected by walkways/connecting halls, and certain ones close enough have trams to get around (Excalibur-Luxor-Mandalay Bay, Park MGM-Aria-Bellagio, etc). And the monorail ticket over several days can cost as much as the taxis you might take on just one.
Exciting! It will be super hot in August. Here are some tips if you’ve never done the Vegas heat ua-cam.com/video/xXEl2oq81Zs/v-deo.htmlsi=SNstVASqYKhCjTGk
@@nsegura5837 jeans, tennies or other very comfy shoes, bring layers for shirts, sweaters, bring a puffer jacket. Light weight but keeps you warm! 11:51 That happened to me at Caesar's Palace my first trip! A "monk" loaded my arm with bracelets and tried to charge me for them, I just took them all off and handed them back before taking off into the casino. I'm planning a return trip for later this fall and this list is going to come in handy for sure. P.S. That player card tip is no joke. I got an MGM Rewards card last time I went and even with my zero points at Sapphire tier I still get room comp offers - it's the whole reason I'm able to afford this upconing trip!
1) Most of the hotel rooms on the strip do not include a coffee maker. I purchased my own 1-cup coffee maker which I put in my suitcase and then set up in my room. So I can enjoy my early morning coffee, instead of waiting in line downstairs and paying $6 at Starbucks! 2) The local government has established fixed (not to exceed) cab fares between the airport and strip hotels. Don't allow your cab or Uber Driver to take a longer route. Pay cash to the driver to save on taxes. At least half of the cab drivers in Vegas are foreign born and their English is "terrible." Don't be surprised if they are very difficult to talk to.
Yes, they really want you to spend $$ on coffee. A few places have single serve machines with no pods or water 🤷♀️. Good tip on taxis. We drive to Vegas but have been using Uber when we don’t drive and it’s a set price, making it so much easier! And we have met the most interesting & fun drivers too!!!
Oh! I nearly forgot... If you want to learn how to play a table game, go when it's slow earlier in the day. Most dealers will be happy to take time to show you what to do. Don't forget to tip! 😊
Just hand them the $20 as a tip versus the weird hiding it. Then ask for an upgrade, I’ve always received one even if it was just a better view but occasionally have gotten full suite upgrades.
HYDRATE!!! I went from the Sphere to the Wynn shops, a 10 minute walk. I nearly passed out. I thought I was okay not bringing my empty water bottle and filling it with ice like I had done before because I thought I was acclimated...HUGE mistake. I crawled to the Fashion Show food court for 2 bottles of water. Instantly I saw beads of sweat on my arm. I suggest putting a bit of Himalayan Salt (for electrolytes) and a pinch or packet of sugar (yep, for carbs/energy) in an empty water bottle and fill it with ice (no water). The ice, and especially hotel ice, will melt real quick. And I'm definitely a timeshare person...every beautiful woman I see, I always ask "can I share some time with you?".

Rookie Mistake: Not paying close enough attention to the minimum denominations on slot machines. I've seen multiple people who thought they were playing a 25-cent machine only to quickly realize they were actually playing a 25 DOLLAR machine. LOL
This happens way more than people may realize. I used to work as a slot attendant for a casino in Laughlin. And -- NO -- the casino will not refund you the money back. It's YOU'RE responsibility to figure out what denom you're playing.

Not sure if it's still the case but fee at Casino Royale ATM is $3. Also, when I was there in November, Walgreens only offered 1 cash back transaction in a 24 hour period.

Hello Melissa and Enrique. This is a very good information video Living there in the 70's in my teenage years. Sure got street smart fast. But happy I learned. Its helped me all my life. Thanks for all you guys do. Have a wonderful WinsDay. ❤🥰❤
We’re glad you enjoyed the video and that you got the street smart fast!!👍👍
@@UpUpOurWay Thank u❤
Did you get your car fixed?
The car is still at the dealership, the good news is they identified two major problems and both are covered under the warranty! At this point we will probably pick up the car on our next trip next week
hi 😊 good ta hear the issues with your jeep are covered👍🏽 As always, great video! 🤗 tc
And don’t let the cab drivers take the long (scenic) route 😅
I got burned on that years ago, going from airport to new york new york. He took us on the freeway and I knew something was screwy, never been before on the freeway. Last time (Oct. 2023) I was there it was a set fee! Way overpriced but its vegas 😂!
One good change they have made on the taxi fare from airport to hotels is they have set fares now!
Airport to hotels are set prices now for taxis so no need to worry about the long route anymore.
Just wondering if you would consider adding timestamps? Thanks!
We might do it after a couple days, sometimes when you have time stamps viewers will not watch more of the video, but we also know it can be helpful for the viewer!
Great video!!!! C u the end of May. Coming to c Adele
Brad Williams a comedian in one of his specials mentioned that he went to Brazil and was told to bring a fake wallet and cell phone that way if he got. Robbed he can give it to robbers. and ever since I seen that I do something similar to that

Hi i thought you were vegas locals! where do you live?
We live in Southern California, Ventura county.
Overdoing your first day is part of the Vegas experience. You can always recover back home 🤣

Melissa you got a subscriber ❤
Thank you for subscribing!❤
Do not walk anywhere. Walking through one hotel is quite enough. If you are going to another hotel you take a cab.
Dont walk around outside the Strat, sketch area.

LV old timers will tell you the "$20 trick" wasn't about a room upgrade! (wink wink)
I’m from NYC. So walking doesn’t bother me.
Also I bank with Charles Schwab. So I get rebated for all ATM fees.
Biggest mistake you’re going to make is simply going to Vegas thinking you’re going to have a good time, evidently this is a minefield where not only nothing is real.
The $20 trick doesn't work anymore, you need more, a lot more.
The hotel I work at has security that is afraid of the CD guys thinking they are gang related
$12 ATM fees should be illegal
Agree!
Not sure if it's still the case but fee at Casino Royale ATM is $3.
Also, when I was there in November, Walgreens only offered 1 cash back transaction in a 24 hour period.
You only wear heals one time.
It’s so true!
She's a little lit in some of these")
