- Here are another five advanced tricks for Rimworld! I've made several Rimworld guides, so if you are a beginner or even an advanced player maybe have a look at this: • Rimworld Guides
I stream crazy hard challenges on Twitch: www.twitch.tv/
I also have a discord with a lot of awesome Rimworld players & a modlist, come share your base or look for inspiration: / discord - Ігри
Come tell me what you thought about the tricks on Twitch!
I stream Rimworld roughly 3 times a week :D www.twitch.tv/spartinimartini
Thousands of hours in Rimworld and I thought I knew everything about the game, but I had no idea you could stop auto mortars that way. Brilliant.
You're never too experienced to learn something new in Rimworld. I'm glad I was able to teach you something new :D
I mean it makes sense, but noone was bold enough to test it out... mechs are terrifying
me to
@@jorgelopezroman5147 Isn't it patched out yet?
I don't know if you would consider this a trick or not. But I often will build a single wall outside of my base, and build a roof over it and adjacent tiles, then put some sandbags next to it. I then remove the home zone around it and shoot the wall but stop just before destroying it. Enemy raiders love to take shelter by the sandbags, and then all you need to do is shoot the wall and destroy it, causing the ceiling to collapse onto the raiders that took shelter there, and badly hurting and sometimes killing them outright.
smart! I've used a more expensive variation of that trick. building a singular wall and putting an IED behind it so the blast takes out raiders and the wall, then the roof collapsing hurts the ones outside of the blast radius
Why does this tricks sounds like it might work in real life?
@@Hardeleiar don't try this at home xD
@@SpartiniMartini haha thanks for the warning *busy dismantle the roof i built on the flimsy pillar*
Other nice tricks u could show people: miniturrets when covered by walls from the east dont dmg others close by (so u can have turrets diagonally touching eachother and wont dmg when explode) - fence + trap combo, instead of having to place doors to rebuild traps u place fences right next to the trap (pawns will zigzag and avoid traps while enemies will simply path find onto traps) - Path resetting (super straight forward but often forgotten, using a zoned animal or any pawn really, they can constantly open doors and close doors to force enemies to path reset forever so long as they arent sappers/breachers). Also rip donkey animal zoning, i really miss my livestock armies.
I miss the days donkey's were able to haul. I even downloaded a mod just to be able to make flak armor for my donkey :(
I love that raid right at the end, the Raiders were totally fine with running through a labyrinth of bear traps but as soon as they heard all those turrets they changed their mind
Also that auto mortar tip is so useful. That really would have been great to know in one of my permadeath colonies I did like a few months ago
rip the raiders torso, it was completely gone
For what the caravan trick goes, then marking the area as "home" is enough.
Similar, if a supply drop has dropped some useless stuff, then you do not need to collect it at all; just mark it as home-area and the stuff can then be sold directly to travelling merchants.
I do that aswell when I don't need the supplies myself :D
That reconnect trick is fantastic, no more messing with switches to get the killbox/gas chamber up and running!
Glad you like it! bonus tip: it also works with eletric workbenches (not the tailorbench). No more forbidding bills or turning your stove off manually if you can just turn the power off with 1 single reconnect
I use the caravan trick to pick up rice after a harvest. Also, if you want to select all the turrets in an area, just expand out then double click on one of them. I use this trick to select heal root and berries to harvest as well.
Its great for farming or drop pods that are far away. Personally I just use the Pick and Haul mod nowadays
1:34 Infenstations.
I love having them around, mostly because of free meat to turn to nutrient paste. Or an additional trade commodity. But more importantly. As an attack dog when my base gets attacked by big raids.
20+ raiders with mid/high tier gear? With sappers? Oh darn. The main path is so defended, time to go to the flank in the mountain. Full of insects.
Or just undo the barriers as they enter the main area and release the swarm.
Also setting wooden flooring in rooms with infenstations you purposefully do. Helps down the numerous bugs. It also is a simple little trick I found.
And more meat for nutrient paste!
One of the most useful golden videos about living on the Rim! Here take my like good sir.
Thank you very much, good sir
I got 1300 hours in RimWorld and still learned something. Thank you!
you're very welcome!
Thanks for the mortar tip , I will definitely put it on wiki
Lol those raiders turned tail so fast when their comrade got turned into paste from the turret
"big nope from me chief"
That caravan trick is about 3 items of unnecessary complexity(just like this sentence).
1. Form a caravan with one pawn.
2. Order that pawn to add all the items manually to the caravan
3. Cancel caravan
The pawn will drop all the items in their appropriate stockpiles after the caravan is cancelled.
thats indeed a better way of doing it, thanks for sharing!
Pawn will also drop his personnal inventory like meal, drug, med (and anything one told him to grab for future use), walking to the highest priority stockpiles until he's "empty" -- and then walk to all of them in order to re-take all one by one unless he dies of malnutrition in the process. I personnaly find it more convenient to have the pawn ”drop all inventory" in one freakin place; he'll take back some immediately then do his stuff before he finishes to resplenish his personal inventory.
Oh my god, I have never seen that automortar trick! You deserve my like and comment just for that
bro that mortar trick is incredible
You can also build a decoy area for bugs. I like to just have a little hut with overhead mountain and a campfire inside. On the way into the kill box. It's cheaper than traps
4:47 What a F'ing brutal way man. Lmao!!! Man.. That set up would be so glorious to see mech's being shredded by that setup.
I still use the same design, but on the left or right of the entrance is now a plasteel door to chuck EMPs at the entrance so the mechs cant even fight back :D
@@SpartiniMartini I have never managed to get to late game in Rimworld. Most times my colony gets wiped out of my own stubborness, or the defensive walls and traps don't get used, due to them using sappers or drop podding into my base. Or setting up mortars and shelling the crap outta my colony.
Once I get my PC back after being repaired I cannot await to play Rimworld again!
*-Just wishing I could have spent my birthday and christmas money I saved up on christmas sales to get the dlc's rather then my pc.. But crap happens.-*
Great stuff. Thanks. I'm still addicted to Rimworld, so every tip is welcome.
you're welcome! I hope my tips & tricks video's can help you out ^^
Nice work man
For the mechs I find having 3 emp grenades thrown from different angles at the exact same time will stun most of the base great tips
Also for the caravan trick, you can just manually order pawns to "load on caravan" by selecting the pawn and clicking on the item you'd like
Years looking for this tipe of videos
Glad you found it :D
Building a roof over the mechanoid mortars is brilliant. I never would have thought of taking advantage of the bug. Don't tell Tynan otherwise he'll patch it lol
there were rumors that it got fixed, but I tried it a couple days ago on stream and I can confirm that the mechs still dont wake up if you build it on an existing wall :D
When 1 of my Colonists is about to break, I send him to some place because he gets a big mood buff if in a caravan... but it kind of feels like cheating
When you hear an accent like that you know you're in good hands.
So when are we gonna get a project zomboid death compilation?
*10 hour compilation of me dying to stupid shit*
24h of Broccoli planting compilation would keep me on my toes !! Quack
honestly pawns should in vanilla use their inventory to haul things, it justs so silly that we might be having trouble getting food cooked properly and people eat raw potatoes because dave the farmer is carrying them at the kitchen fairly far away at 6 per trip when they could hold hundred+
also for infestation, if the temperature of the area is under -17C infestation cant spawn in otherwise valid area, mostly useful for arctic biome playthroughs but its something
Or how pawns can carry either 1 knife, or 75 granite blocks. It needs to be based on weight in my opinion
At least let me craft a potato sack!
Finally I can design killbox without having pawn moving around to pull the power switch risking getting shotted
I always forgot to turn them on until it was too late. The powerswitch trick is a lifesaver :D
@@SpartiniMartini okay I have to think about backup plan for that then
new guide. finally.
It took me a while
Having lots of prisoners bunching up for recruitment/organ harvest? Just build a single cell with some heaters, I personally use a cave dug in the mountains with a few wall tiles and door. So when they eventually try to escape you previously build a single wall in front of the door, and leave it at 99% building. The nearest pawn just finishes the wall and stays repairing it if they try to break it down. You then raise the heaters up and bake them until unconscious instead of getting your melee pawns hundreds of bruises... *Disclaimer: War crimes might have been committed in the process
As a mountain dweller the best option is to make an infestation room. Keep everything well lit and clean except your "skeleton" room where you dump and burn all the garbage. They will pretty much only spawn in this room. Add a few wood items and cook them with molotovs.
I've made one out of a fungus farm in my last mountain base, worked insanely good. + if the infestation isn't happening for a while, you get some bonus food
@@SpartiniMartini I just do straw floors that lead into a hallway underneath a door. Have another door built in the hallway and have a pawn throw moltovs at the straw until it lights and then just walk away, locking the second door behind you.
You can also keep your mountain base cold and that'll keep the base safe.
Good tricks
Good tips! Never knew that about auto-mortars. That's hilarious. In the bad ol' days they used to start firing immediately. Youch!
For the caravan trick you don't have to make a stockpile. Just send the pawn with nothing, then right-click to "add to caravan." That way you don't have to look for anything in the caravan screen and you can pick up stuff that's in multiple locations around the map, like the steel in your example, without the pawn going to the wrong stockpile. It's a little more micro but it helps to avoid actually sending them. Personally I just use pick-up-and-haul 'cause even explaining the caravan trick is too much work for me.
I don't know about your pawns, but for the checkerboard infestation blocks I'm pretty sure mine would build themselves into a box every. damn. time. "What the... Why's Stonk starv... Not again!"
With a long-enough killbox the dead-power turret trick can be thoroughly abused to keep enemies running back and forth between them, but even if you don't go that far it's useful for saving turrets as you can shut them off before raiders get there and "distract" them with gunfire.
The building themselves in happens a lot yeah, you'll have to keep an eye on them. If I can be so bold to quote myself from another video: "Pawns are idiots" :D
@@SpartiniMartini pawns are not idiots. They are just geniuses at getting themselves maimed
@@M0rbidFates That's deep, man. I can see that as an inspirational quote on a picture of a sunset
we did it we beat the algorithm I just got this in my recommended
Buff Randy is too stronk for the youtube algorithm
New trick I recently seen. You can build fences (single fence then empty tile pattern) near your trap line instead off a wall . The enemies will pass over the traps but your pawns will actually use the fence path to rearm your traps and not set them off . That makes traps in a corridors a lot safer to use(even if you have to leave 2 tile path to make this pattern instead of the usual 1 .Thanks go to the youtube channel that showed it recently(cant remember its name rn)
Another one (from Francis John channel - its from someone in his community) placing unpowered turret behind walls still gets registered by enemy raids in its firing range . They dont attack it (since no power and walls ) but they exit the bunched up formation they always start with . Basically , it makes that 9999999 tribal raid you have to fight enter your killbox 1 by 1 instead of 50 morrons in 1 tile. If you use traps that might be harmful , but for purely gun defense , its very useful
Good stuff! you can also replace those fences with sandbags, as sandbags have more HP and don't burn
@@SpartiniMartini Fences can be made from stone and those aren't flammable . Probably right about the HP points though. Its situational I think . If you used explosives , both get destroyed and fences are probably cheaper . Also , If you make long pathway to the killbox , inner part (almost) never gets damaged
@@shadowkhan422 oh nice! I dont tend to use fences in biomes where there isnt a lot of wood, so I usally just make them out of wood. Or Jade if I need to crank up the beauty in a room :D
I am really interested about the story of the cat with the name "dog"
It's just my bad humour. I've named a black bear pet "Polar Bear 1" before on stream :D
There is a single spot on the north-east corner where you can shoot a mech turret with a sniper without it shooting you back
I gotta test that out, that would be insanely helpful
I used to be annoyed when a pawn started doing a task, got interrupted, and then it reset the progress completely, but I realized it meant I could deconstruct endlessly the same structure to farm construction XP.
Even though I knew you were saying turrets I couldnt stop laughing
What did it sound like? >.>
@@SpartiniMartini lets say it still makes sense: "A killbox with turds is amazing" 3:23
@@Skukkix23 dammit, I can not unhear it now, you ruined me! xD
About the caravan trick: Cant you just draft them and then order them to pick up everthing, let them go to the stockpile, make them drop everything then undraft them? Or is that mod related, cuz I have lost overview over whats modded and what not. Good ol 206 active mods
I believe that that is a feature of the Pick up & Haul mod, I use that myself too so I'm not exactly sure. But in vanilla you could also start a caravan with no items, and then click on an item and click "add to caravan". That's a bit easier than how I explained it in the video
that first trick should def wake up the mechs xD
I was real surprised that it didn't when I tried it for the first time xD
"spartini explaining tricks"
Me: *look at cat* he's name is dog. Funny...
Also me: a cat named dog. Huh
My dog meows and looks weird, pls help
So how would you turn off the turrets again after reconnecting them? I might be missing something here :D
You keep clicking the reconnect button until it reconnects to the unpowered conduit. Same way you turn them on
don't mech clusters wake up now when you try to build something close to it?
They always wake up when you build walls (at least in my case). I dont know if they now also wake up from roof building, but at the time this was uploaded it was still a valid tactic
Roofing the mortar is very cheesy. The other options are less cheesy and the medical beds trick I would consider intended usage. To save space in a barracks you can do the same with a end table near the beds
Auto-mortars with infinite ammo are very cheesy. Cheesing the cheese is fair play.
@@13253415 Auto-mortars are intended unfairness of the game. Rimworld is brutal. Cheesing it gives a false sense of accomplishment. Rimworld does give you the option to outright disable it and cheesing is not needed.
I like to watch Spartini while I shower.
as long as you dont watch me shower, I'll be okay with it..
@@SpartiniMartini Shower stream when?
@@malarkey7242 I think I'd need a different platform than Twitch or youtube for that..
Do you have any tips and tricks for dealing with the 1.3 breach raids without the DLC content (no psycasting, etc.)? I'm new to Rimworld and haven't gotten the DLCs yet, and the mech breach raids feel so overpowered to me. Walls feel useless, the other mechs take over termite duties if you down the termite before it gets to your base, and to add insult to injury, the whole map just looks awful with holes blown through random hills and mountains on their path to the base. I'd almost prefer even drop pod raids into my hospital over the termite raids. (Almost.) :/
Anyway, thanks so much for these tips!
If you do really hate them, you can always turn them off in the scenario settings.
I have myself been trying to harrass them with snipers before they get near my base (go for the pikeman first because they are the only one that can match your range. Or go for the scythers if you want your guys to do a melee charge, but pikeman could be a danger to your snipers then), then once they get close, I let them go through my wall so they are all cluttered up. Then I chuck an emp, stun most of them, and send my strongest melee pawns in for the kill. I hope this helps!
@@SpartiniMartini Thank you for the advice! I will try the sniper thing, maybe with someone using a smoke launcher.
@@sarahj7507 I thought of a different way that might work too! In the latest guide, the first trick, I explain how you can make a trap using 1 wall and a roof. I suppose you could use that too with breacher raids if you position that trap in their path.
Decoy base! It's outright *recommended* if you deal with VFE Mechanoids, but it works wonders in vanilla too. You basically just stick, like, one turret or some random security pieces inside a cheap room, scatter these across your map. It'll usually divide the approaching enemy up, and you can then deal with them in smaller groups.
Ruins are good for this, since you can just claim them and finish off a little section with wood or something else negligible and they're basically perfect bait.
Works against regular raiders too, but you can stick a bomb or something inside for extra effect LOL
@@Starfloofle Never thought about decoy bases before, smart!
do you use fences in your Killbox??
If you mean the killbox from the twitchclip, those were barbedwire fences from a mod
1:59 "Dog", but that's a Muffalo silly.
I had this "muffalo" run around in the last guide to but no one noticed it. Congrats, you're the first one in two vids to point it out :D
Any plans on doing a playthrough
I'm doing playthroughs every wednesday, saturday and sunday live over at twitch. As a full time uni student in the final phases of his masters, I sadly dont have time to edit them down to youtube (yet) :/

It's pretty good yeah, but it is of course up to you if you want to use it or not

mah man!
Lekker pik

The spring mortar, unfortunately, ha been patched out
ahhh really? what a shame :(
My opinion to kill boxes is divided, because it makes things too easy.
The caravan trick can be done easier. Just start a caravan with only a pawn. Then select that pawn and right click on all items you wish to move.
When you come up with tricks..... can you make sure they are new? reconnect turrets, infestation spawn, the head piece of medical who works the same for the wooden one with beds? Is this 2015? ....
Im just sharing what I know, there is a good chance the peeps who've played for a while already know most of the stuff
@@SpartiniMartini Fair enough.
