UPDATE: Everything in this guide is true for 1.5 and beyond EXCEPT for one - Animals are NO LONGER pathing targets for raiders. Raiders will still path to colonists or 'junk' targets.
Been watching UA-cam for the majority of my life and this is the first time in place of a sponsor a charity is mentioned instead. Thank you my guy :)
you're awesome for updating all your vids when things change.
Thank you for updating your guides for any details that have changed with the updates. Highly appreciate it!
Would a mech from biotech count as a colonist?
Do animals work as collision triggers or did they patch that as well? Also what is that grey map you are in is it a mod?
"Don't expect a 200 enemy tribal raid to go after a single chair as if it were a squirrel" 😂🤣😂🤣 words to live by
True
"Okay, men! We have our orders! We need to kill this colony's pet squirrel. It's behind that creepy maze-like compound, so we're gonna walk in there *one by one*, got it? Alright, now move it!"
Joining in on the "too many hours, still learned something"-train. Great guide! Finally I know why my melee block setup usually explodes into a blob fight.
Yeah, I always hated that also. This has been a lifesaver ever since I started implementing it.
600 hours. Didn’t know like 1/2 this stuff😂😂😂
I feel like you could play this game a ton and still be learning things.
This tip only works it humans
To help with the raiders to runaway without fighting
Reach -100 and they will leave without fighting
1 Keep their allies body far way from base close to boarders 6 bodies of their follen I eye site -12 mood is max
2 let it bodies rot if they smell -6 mood
3 seeing dead family members on ground -20 mod
4 seeing friends/ family dieing on trap -6 per person.
5 To cold -16 mood
6 no food in the snow -44
7 is in pain -5
(12+6+6+20+6+16+44+5) = -105
Get to a point that raiders no longer try to fight only run when they enter the map
Tribals and humans
It doesn't work on the psychopaths
90% of them running is great before the battle even starts or a trap is triggered.
I was building a giant tunnel of death to lead raiders straight to my stash, nice to know all of my precious belongings mean nothing to raiders, but a single squirrel lumped in with them would do the trick. I'll have to try and use that trick when I finally get everything built! Appreciate the guide
Lol. yeah, there are so many unintuitive mechanics buried in RimWorld. Thanks for watching!
Live by the squirrel. Die by the squirrel.
ehh those immaculate chairs of the finest marble do not interest me, but this squirrel is worth more than the world!
I like how neat and no nonsense your presentation is.
Thanks!
honestly true. noobert is such a pain to watch and usually i just mute his shit and skim thru it.
i always never understand why raid attack my wall first rather than going in the heat kill box, now i understand. Thanks for the video
No problem! Glad it helped.
"Don't expect a 200-enemy tribal raid to go after a chair as if it were a squirrel" is such a great sentence :)
Over 2000 hours, this is still a very useful guide. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Watching this video taught me about the History > Messages tab. What a game changer! No more, "Wait, what just happened??" Thank you.. Also pathing.
I really love the detailed, technical explanation of exactly what is going on and why.
Thanks! Glad they can help.
Biotech update: Light mechanoids make great bait! One time I used a cleansweeper to kite a megaspider around the traps in my base because I was ill-prepared to fight it. Worked a treat!
Thanks for all the work you're putting into this channel!
omg, I didnt realize they never reset the target - I always thought it was enough to open the door *after* they started attacking. This changes everything! Damn, this is a great video.
This answered a lot of questions I had about raid mechanics, much appreciated
Thank you for this, I've only learned about you not to long ago but have been loving your videos
Thank you so much man! I was having pathing issues while following the Singularity Killbox tutorial and nearly left a comment asking why this is happening until I saw the pathing link, very useful man!
Useful guide as always. And a reminder that clumping enemies on purpose can be useful too. Things like Berserk Pulse or IEDs work great on clumped enemies.
That's an excellent point. Also useful for a burn box. You may want the enemies stacked so they get in there more quickly.
Using the squirrel or colonist method, rather than the turret method, let's you control when and where collision occurs or does not occur.
Yep! I actually made sure of just that in a playthrough so that the burn box could be much smaller but still dispatch huge raids. Good points, for sure.
AMAZING tutorial. I am always confused by the mechanics but now it's so clear. thanks!!
This is possibly the best and most useful video I have ever seen for Rimworld.
I subscribed once I heard who you were donating to. Awesome stuff!!
Thanks Adam! I just got this game and I'm addicted xD. I'm an old Star Craft 2 "pro" (Diamond, season 1, before masters was introduced.) I got this game thinking. "I'll crush it." Boy was I wrong 😅. It's actually one of the most difficult games I've played in a long time which makes me love it. I hated dying SO MUCH at the start but now, I enjoy the story as you get to "know" your pawns. (Skip this next part if you don't want to hear my Rimworld story that brought me here 🤣)
- I stayed up all night the other day with a colony. We made it 1 year in but I was taking it at 1x speed & really micromanaging everything. We had geothermal on 3. A kill box. Survived the winter which dropped down past zero on the map I chose. (Ooops.) Survived it pretty easy I might add. It felt really good. It felt really good. I was even working on an indoor growing farm because of the winter & the base was carved into a mountain. I literally just got the last wall smoothed out which I was OCD about to be able to lay power cables. Aside from patting myself on the back for smoothing out the walls, my 2 starter pawns had just gotten married. Things seemed too good. Like I had learned a lot finally. Then, on their wedding night of all times, (I sweat the developer does this stuff on purpose 😂) the biggest raid I ever faced came in & my kill box which I thought was great, ended up being not so great 🤣. My colony of 9 with 2 newly weds didn't make it 😢. The wife was such a productive pawn but was incapable of violence. She was the only one left in the house. I didn't want to see the raiders had in store for her so in a great sigh, I had to end that colony🤧.
- Frustrated, I started a new game and kept hitting the x3 because I lost my patience. Ended up running out of food which I can normally resolve expect.... I was on a desert map & didn't make a garden right away... so... ya... What happened next was tragic. I had a starving inmate pawn that was so close to joining us. However one of starving pawns went on a sadistic rage & he also happened to be the one I gave the starting knife too 😧. The first place he went was, you guessed it, the jail cell. One of my other 2 pawns was hurt & starving so I took my only "good pawn" whom was also red & starving to save the inmate. She ended up getting knocked out by the maniac along with the inmate. So there I was... an inmate & a starter pawn on the ground waiting to be rescued. Another starter pawn on a sadistic rage & my 3rd pawn starving in pain, in bed & with no medical experience. So, I did what any gamer who isn't a total masochist would do, I hit Alt F4 😆. That said, I thought to myself, "The story of Colony 10. They got stranded on a desert planet. They ran out of food. Then they ended up going on a sadistic rage because of hunger before killing each other."🥲.
Sorry! I'm sure every Rimworld veteran has their story. I just had to get mine off my chest since it just happened last night 😂. I realize now each "playthrough" is a several day, if not weeks, long endeavor so I need to stop trying to play it like I beat it in one night. Also, watching my newly weds die after we finally finished smoothing out the walls of our mountain home is what brought me here 😅. So you can thank her for me subscribing🤓
Thanks btw! Great tutorial! If I had this information beforehand. Maybe they'd still all be alive 😥. I knew the pawns were attracted to characters. I also knew that protecting structures like AC units and geothermals with walls was the way to go. Started putting boxes around my AC exhaust with a remove roof command because of that. However, every once in a while they'd still go for the walls or somewhere else completely I couldn't quite put my finger on what the difference was in each playthrough. Now I know thanks to your video! Thank you so much! Sorry again for the long story! I just really wanted to get that off my chest 🤣. Keep it up Adam! You have great content & your channel will keep growing! Rimworld is getting more popular everyday.
Wow. So much about why my base defense sucks makes sense now. One of the most useful guides I've seen!
Just came back to play rimworld, and starting from almost rookie knowledge, ur videos are great, keep it up mate!!!
This is great, answered everything I wanted to know 👍 Wanted to make an underground vault setup and was really confused why raiders kept attacking a 3x3 wall instead of the main/only entrance, happened to be because I had it closed via door at the very top
Thanks for the guide. It was really concise and helpful!
Good stuff man, glad to see more guides out there to help players. Even after almost I think 1,000 hours of this game and I'm always picking up little bits of new info. Very well done, I hope more viewers like it and share it around to grow your brand. Cheers!
Hey Banlish, nice to see you over here! As always, just hit me up if you ever have any RW questions!
been playing this game for 8 years now and i'm still learning new stuff thanks to you
Thanks for the guide, helps me understand how to set up and prep for larger raids
The collision stuff is super important against those big 200 tribal globs. Thanks for watching!
A very well put together guide! Thanks for making it!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much! I just got into the game not long ago and really struggled with raids in particular as I didn't understand that "attacking immediately" meant I couldn't place bait at my killbox after the fact. Great guide :)
No problem! Glad I could help.
Your specific, in-depth, technical knowledge is so helpful. There are so many details that can make a strategy succeed or fail, and you do a great job of organizing and sharing that info. Thank you!
Great content like the in depth approach
This video alone just got you a sub. Golden info, cheers for sharing it. 👍
Hiya Adam. Just found your channel and am loving your content. new rimworld player and your guides helped me out a lot. I've watched them all now! I'd love to see further tutorials about caravans and trading (especially managing food and moods on caravans!) and maybe a guide to food production and meals as well. I'm gonna go now and watch some of your other videos, but so far I just wanna say I'm a fan. Thanks for doing what you do!
They are on the list! I do have a ton of plans for more guides and wanted many more out this year already but have been hit with some medical issues. I should still be able to do a couple a month, though. Thanks for watching!
@@AdamVsEverything Thank you. Sorry to hear about your health issues. Hope you start feeling better soon!
i love your guides. it's straight to the point
Thanks!
thank you so much! If you made a million little guides like this i'd watch every one.
Thanks! That is the plan, eventually :P
Great guide Adam, clear & concise
Thanks!
Thanks Adam! Super clear and informative. 💯
Thanks for watching!
After playing 100 Hrs and struggling with the freaking Killbox i finally know where the problem was, the god damn collision ! Thx Bro!
How does this video only have 38k views
This guide is criminally undervalued by the youtube algorithm.
Thanks! Much appreciated.
The best guide I ever seen. Love it ❤️
Glad you think so - thanks!
Really helpful guide. Very simple and useful, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Dang, super helpful guide! Didn't know about zone-able animals giving collision, but I will put this to good use.
Thanks! Glad it helped.
Excellent guide. Detailed, short and to the point. Nice jab at the Smurph. Speaking of current run needs another punching bag yes? I’ve made a note to grab the next bad pawn that is a masochist for that particular reason 😆
Lol. We are at Raid Cap in that one now, so probably not needed anymore.
Nice Adam, great info, good work!
Thanks for watching!
Wow! Collision tech is what I needed!
Awesome, glad it helped!
Thank you Adam ... I have over 600 hours clocked in Rimworld, and yet, everytime I watch your videos, I learn something new =D
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
it helped me so much this is a great guide
I came back to see this video is still being updated to the most recent versions, thank you so much for the quality information and dedication :)
Adam always providing on point deep knowledge
I try :P
Love that you're donating the funds from these to DWB! :D Keep up the good content (as long as you're enjoying it, anyway)!
Happy that I can do it! I already enjoy making guides so it is a bit of icing on the cake. Thanks for watching!
Awesome guide! Will definitely start taming small animals to use in a kill-box from now on.
Definitely helps a ton! And if they are in a grazable area you can basically just grab one and forget about it.
1600+ hours and I still learned something :D
Awesome video, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great video.
I'm above 1k hours of playtime and I knew that raids like to target colonists, so I always kept a door open.
But the information about collision was new for me and I have to say, it's extremely useful.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
That's amazing! Thanks pal!!
great guide, you explained stuff that i have never seen other youtuber talk about
Awesome! Expect a bigger channel to make a guide about pathing next week, now. lol
Great guide video. It's great to have info out there to send people to. :D
Yeah, I am sure the people in chat will appreciate me not having to explain the turret thing 25 times a steam, too :P
Thank this helped me a lot ill gladly sub for the knowledge 😂
Very helpful, thank you!
My pleasure, Thanks for watching!
Great guide. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Fun fact: you can pull center drop raids out of your base by opening a path to a powered turret or animal
The last tip is truly golden. Just too many colonies losts due to stacked mechanoids.
Yeah, collision is super important especially when getting into those huge late game raids.
Well explained on the zone of collision.
Many videos skip that concept and only explain how to abuse “pass through only” buildings like sandbags. Video is Not too long, well paced IMO with your voice work to content, and has solid info. Actually grateful/happy that you don’t bloat the video with all the different killbox styles.
I’m currently making a mega base with mods just for Kyla. The challenge is getting everything set up to be beneficial such that all raid types are covered. So far, I have: melee through wall diagonals, autobong/poison bong, animal trap(potential boom box), ceiling+ied+column trap, spike hallway, heatbox, cold box, bug box, burn zone, killer mood box(potential water hallway), psycast/superpower box, and semi circle killzone. In a 400x400 map that is in the late game, it is extremely challenging to get all the areas to synergies.
I would love to hear about some of the more obscure and hilarious killboxes out there from an expert such as yourself.
Obscure killboxes are on the to-do list. Unfortunately the to-do list also includes basics of combat, basics of base building, raid points, traits, and maybe one or two others.
We do want to show the Chain Shotgun setup, the crazy "cannot be shot" killbox all the way from china, spike tunnel/hallway combo setups, and how you can mix and match multiple of these together.
Thanks! One of the guides Smurph alluded to is now available. Check out this killbox: ua-cam.com/video/uH9oyC9KZlE/v-deo.html
absolutely amazing
Commenting for the alogorithm, nice guide!
Thanks for watching!
thank you Adam!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much. 🤗My English is not very good, but i was understanding everything. 👍
This explains a lot about why my defences aren't working as intended, thanks!
Nice guide, didn't know about the zonable animals as target.
Yep! It's a nice thing to do early and then just sort of forget about (as long as it has food or can graze etc).
@@AdamVsEverything what if you don't give them food, but keep taming squirrels. Then you eat them after they starve to death. How much nutrition do starved squirrels provide? In the real world, it's not really that much. Um... theoretically.
Another great video!
Thanks!
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Super useful. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video!
My pleasure!
thank you. this will help alot
Thanks for watching!
Nice tutorial, keep up the good work! :-)
Thanks!
I noticed when my base gets attacked the raiders would, without fail, attempt to breach the vents and external coolers first. My freezer room's coolers became such good bait that I simply made a corridor filled with traps leading right up to them xD
i prob have more than a thousand hours playtime and i learned something !
your turret thing for activating collision is really awesome :)
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching!
Great video and a real touch of class donating to Doctors Without Borders, especially given everything going on in the world right now.
Thanks! I am happy I can do it this year.
favorite rimworld creator 👍
Thanks, I really do appreciate it!
I NEVER KNEW YOU COULD HAVE SO MANY RAIDERS
A great guide thanks. I think traps enable collision as well as preventing random predators eating your squirrel.
I’d love to see a video on how to cope with breachers.
Traps alone don't, unfortunately. I have a recent loss on here where I had a trap tunnel but forgot to cause collision and they ballooned in over the traps and ended the run :P
Great Video
Thanks!
This is the video I needed, Thank you ! I assume this still holds up 1 year later ? :D
Really good video :)
Thanks!
Gonna try this out, thx! I'm on my first playthrough on hard difficulty, tough for noob. Were it not for my 2 guard bears, my colony would have been wiped out already.
The biggest thing I actually got from this guide is that messages are stored in the history tab
increadbly usefull video thank you
Thanks for watching!
So many hours into the game and still learning stuff. Can't wait for you to pick up Dwarf Fortress!
Adam learning DF is the dream!
Definitely looking forward to the Steam DF! Never played the original, so should be extra crazy lol
A separate guide explaining the collision mechanics would be helpful. The only thing that seems to work for me is sending a single pawn dangerously close to the raiders right before they get to a door seems to work but I dont know why. The unexplainable "ballooning" out of raiders as they hit melee blockers has ended 5+ year colonies for me
Awesome thank you!
My pleasure!
Very cool!
Thanks!
I'm leaving a comment because I really love that you are donating to doctors without borders.
Keep up the good work man
Thanks!
Thank you, Adam (not Adam). Good info.
Thanks!
My pleasure!
top tier content
Nice video
As a new console player, this pleases me! I am about ready to leave my starting tile and want to build a nice base.
Awesome - Good luck!
1945 hours and I've learned something new about raid collision
I'd love a video on a killbox for tribal starts. I've designed the best one I could think up, but it still does have issues sometimes where enemies occasionally "cheat'" and will stand on tiles they aren't typically allowed to stand on, like barricades / sand bags.
Use the collision idea to break them up before entering. Keep a squirrel in a pen by the door, kind of like in Dwarf fortress when you chain some animals at the entrance of the fort to spot robbers.
If you are not opposed to using an 'overpowered' one, you can check this new killbox guide out - Thanks for watching!
