    UPDATE: Everything in this guide is true for 1.5 and beyond EXCEPT for one - Animals are NO LONGER pathing targets for raiders. Raiders will still path to colonists or 'junk' targets.

      This tip only works it humans
      To help with the raiders to runaway without fighting
      Reach -100 and they will leave without fighting
      1 Keep their allies body far way from base close to boarders 6 bodies of their follen I eye site -12 mood is max
      2 let it bodies rot if they smell -6 mood
      3 seeing dead family members on ground -20 mod
      4 seeing friends/ family dieing on trap -6 per person.
      5 To cold -16 mood
      6 no food in the snow -44
      7 is in pain -5
      (12+6+6+20+6+16+44+5) = -105
      Get to a point that raiders no longer try to fight only run when they enter the map
      Tribals and humans
      It doesn't work on the psychopaths
      90% of them running is great before the battle even starts or a trap is triggered.

    I was building a giant tunnel of death to lead raiders straight to my stash, nice to know all of my precious belongings mean nothing to raiders, but a single squirrel lumped in with them would do the trick. I'll have to try and use that trick when I finally get everything built! Appreciate the guide

    Thanks Adam! I just got this game and I'm addicted xD. I'm an old Star Craft 2 "pro" (Diamond, season 1, before masters was introduced.) I got this game thinking. "I'll crush it." Boy was I wrong 😅. It's actually one of the most difficult games I've played in a long time which makes me love it. I hated dying SO MUCH at the start but now, I enjoy the story as you get to "know" your pawns. (Skip this next part if you don't want to hear my Rimworld story that brought me here 🤣)
    - I stayed up all night the other day with a colony. We made it 1 year in but I was taking it at 1x speed & really micromanaging everything. We had geothermal on 3. A kill box. Survived the winter which dropped down past zero on the map I chose. (Ooops.) Survived it pretty easy I might add. It felt really good. It felt really good. I was even working on an indoor growing farm because of the winter & the base was carved into a mountain. I literally just got the last wall smoothed out which I was OCD about to be able to lay power cables. Aside from patting myself on the back for smoothing out the walls, my 2 starter pawns had just gotten married. Things seemed too good. Like I had learned a lot finally. Then, on their wedding night of all times, (I sweat the developer does this stuff on purpose 😂) the biggest raid I ever faced came in & my kill box which I thought was great, ended up being not so great 🤣. My colony of 9 with 2 newly weds didn't make it 😢. The wife was such a productive pawn but was incapable of violence. She was the only one left in the house. I didn't want to see the raiders had in store for her so in a great sigh, I had to end that colony🤧.
    - Frustrated, I started a new game and kept hitting the x3 because I lost my patience. Ended up running out of food which I can normally resolve expect.... I was on a desert map & didn't make a garden right away... so... ya... What happened next was tragic. I had a starving inmate pawn that was so close to joining us. However one of starving pawns went on a sadistic rage & he also happened to be the one I gave the starting knife too 😧. The first place he went was, you guessed it, the jail cell. One of my other 2 pawns was hurt & starving so I took my only "good pawn" whom was also red & starving to save the inmate. She ended up getting knocked out by the maniac along with the inmate. So there I was... an inmate & a starter pawn on the ground waiting to be rescued. Another starter pawn on a sadistic rage & my 3rd pawn starving in pain, in bed & with no medical experience. So, I did what any gamer who isn't a total masochist would do, I hit Alt F4 😆. That said, I thought to myself, "The story of Colony 10. They got stranded on a desert planet. They ran out of food. Then they ended up going on a sadistic rage because of hunger before killing each other."🥲.
    Sorry! I'm sure every Rimworld veteran has their story. I just had to get mine off my chest since it just happened last night 😂. I realize now each "playthrough" is a several day, if not weeks, long endeavor so I need to stop trying to play it like I beat it in one night. Also, watching my newly weds die after we finally finished smoothing out the walls of our mountain home is what brought me here 😅. So you can thank her for me subscribing🤓
    Thanks btw! Great tutorial! If I had this information beforehand. Maybe they'd still all be alive 😥. I knew the pawns were attracted to characters. I also knew that protecting structures like AC units and geothermals with walls was the way to go. Started putting boxes around my AC exhaust with a remove roof command because of that. However, every once in a while they'd still go for the walls or somewhere else completely I couldn't quite put my finger on what the difference was in each playthrough. Now I know thanks to your video! Thank you so much! Sorry again for the long story! I just really wanted to get that off my chest 🤣. Keep it up Adam! You have great content & your channel will keep growing! Rimworld is getting more popular everyday.

    • @MortalSmurph
      @MortalSmurph 2 роки тому +4

      That's an excellent point. Also useful for a burn box. You may want the enemies stacked so they get in there more quickly.
      Using the squirrel or colonist method, rather than the turret method, let's you control when and where collision occurs or does not occur.

    • @AdamVsEverything

    Well explained on the zone of collision.
    Many videos skip that concept and only explain how to abuse “pass through only” buildings like sandbags. Video is Not too long, well paced IMO with your voice work to content, and has solid info. Actually grateful/happy that you don’t bloat the video with all the different killbox styles.
    I’m currently making a mega base with mods just for Kyla. The challenge is getting everything set up to be beneficial such that all raid types are covered. So far, I have: melee through wall diagonals, autobong/poison bong, animal trap(potential boom box), ceiling+ied+column trap, spike hallway, heatbox, cold box, bug box, burn zone, killer mood box(potential water hallway), psycast/superpower box, and semi circle killzone. In a 400x400 map that is in the late game, it is extremely challenging to get all the areas to synergies.
    I would love to hear about some of the more obscure and hilarious killboxes out there from an expert such as yourself.

    • @MortalSmurph
      @MortalSmurph 2 роки тому +1

      Obscure killboxes are on the to-do list. Unfortunately the to-do list also includes basics of combat, basics of base building, raid points, traits, and maybe one or two others.
      We do want to show the Chain Shotgun setup, the crazy "cannot be shot" killbox all the way from china, spike tunnel/hallway combo setups, and how you can mix and match multiple of these together.

The only thing that seems to work for me is sending a single pawn dangerously close to the raiders right before they get to a door seems to work but I dont know why. The unexplainable "ballooning" out of raiders as they hit melee blockers has ended 5+ year colonies for me

    I saw the video the other day but didn't really take it to heart. Well, a ~300 pawn melee tribal raid just exploded into my killbox (and made my game into a slideshow 😂). Fortunately they were busy enough with my plasteel turrets to take them down almost injury-free, but I still wet myself... 😅😂

    Thx Adam this helps a ton! This stacking system is weird I get it the devs dont want players just make fools of enemy but we can hardly benefit from stacking system. But players still find a way to encounter the weird system in a weird way... making it useless. Then whats even the point of this unfair and troublesome mechanism? Should it even exist?

    Re-watched a few times. Trying to get another credit towards my RimWorld degree, lol. Have one question. Do want or not want collision, for a burn box/tunnel? Thanks again Adam and if your streaming today, I'll ask there also. Hope your feeling better today! ✌️♥️

    • @MortalSmurph
      @MortalSmurph 2 роки тому +1

      You may or may not want collision into your burn box/tunnel. No collision means the enemies can enter it and be burned to death more quickly. Collision means there will be a very long time for you to prepare.
      What you can do is setup doors near the entrance of the tunnel/burnbox. If you want collision, either draft a colonist and stand on the other side of the door or zone an animal to that spot. If you don't want collision, simply don't do that. You can put your burn box on the path to your killbox/defensive setup. On the inner side of the box, you can have the turret behind doors for collision. That way it's always ready but only after they go through your maze.

      @@MortalSmurph thank you for the explanation. My current setup is close to what Adam uses. And it didn't dawn on me, that my pawn in the fire starter box would be the collision target anyways, lol. Was only thinking of where the turret would be 😉

    this was very informative! i'm generally against killboxes but I like to instead use chokepoints of several pillboxes with overlapping fields of fire in an open field to defend against raiders. One question though: if I have a squirrel as bait behind open doors and then close the doors after raiders enter, will they still path towards that squirrel and break down the doors obstructing it on their way?

    Great video and thanks for the info! But question, I have a fully double walled base all the way to the deep water ocean, I have side doors that are a wooden door facing the interior(closed) with granite doors 4 tiles away from the wooden doors(straight line) facing outwards(held open) for my colonist easy access to whatever. Then I have a killbox, no maze just a choke point and about 25 tile length by 15 tile wide battle area, behind this area is a single door always held open, my melee people line up in front the door for blocking, then right behind them I have embrasures for my shooters to shoot in a two tile wide area. My shooters area has a door behind them held open as well but they still attack walls. I think I know what I am not doing right as I write this but I wrote so much so gonna send this anyways lol. Also medieval play through so smaller killbox.

    Awesome guide adam. questions, do some animals, like this squirrel, not need someone to rope them into a fenced area the way i have to with all my livestock nowadays? if its possible id totally keep a small fast animal like a rat or squirrel to just bait raiders into killboxes and giving them collision. if anyone else knows the answers please do tell me, id really appreciate it.

    • @MortalSmurph
      @MortalSmurph 2 роки тому +1

      Some small animals, like squirrels, rats, rabbits, can be zoned. I believe the game's rational is "these are too small to be blocked by fences, so we're going to let you zone them so they stay where you want." Normally, a player would zone these with their herd animals.
      Yes, you absolutely can keep one small animal as bait. Yes you can zone it to a little area there and keep it there indefinitely. For immediate attack raids, it needs to be there before the raids spawn. So you will want to keep it there all the time. Once you have colonists in your killbox, you can move the zone-able animal. The raiders will switch targets when their target is non-pathable. Just ensure you have a new target ready when the original goes through a closed door.

      @@MortalSmurph thanks a lot mate, that's some damn good info right there. i wonder if this small animal zoning trick could be used in conjuctions with IEDs somehow.
      squirrels and rats are pretty easy to come by, can they trigger IEDs?

    • @MortalSmurph
      @MortalSmurph 2 роки тому

      I believe that any colony pawn (animal or human) that walks over an IED only has like a 1% chance to trigger it. You could do like the Spike Trap path but with IEDs. Encourage the enemies to path over them on way to squirrel.

    Got a simple issue with zone-able animal for baiting : it needs to eat, so food must be placed somewhere on its open-area. But if this is opened, during winter wild animal come to eat the food as well. If I put the food inside a room, the zone-able animal risks to be there and not on the baiting area at the start of a raid...

    • @petergalliver3290
      @petergalliver3290 Рік тому

      Raider pawns can path over fences, and many wild animals cannot, so perhaps putting a single fence of a sturdy material in the maze to your killbox will fix your wild animal issue.
