Honestly it's kind of strange that it doesn't work. One can only assume Nintendo have been up to their old tricks.
I was thinking that as well, and they should have waited till they could have at least gotten their hands on at least one unit to test these with, and then included the adapter in all the boxes.
It's unlikely to be a problem solved with an adaptor. The pinout is physically identical, and it's basically a custom USB plug in any case.
Presumably there must be some kind of software authentication, and whatever the third party peripherals are pretending to be is no longer valid in the NES Classic?
Presumably so that Nintendo can sell official NES classic pads. Understandable, I guess, it's quite a limited market to start with.

That's exactly it, re-branded for the mini without testing. Unfortunately for me I just have the original packaging and no receipt. Now I'm trying to see if I can pay a couple of bucks for this adapter as controller is useless to me otherwise.

I think they're acting so nuts over it because this is the first time a company that made the games released the plug and play console, not some third party.
George Fasano Sure and I can absolutely understand excitement and Id have loved to pick one or two of these up for my Nephew and Father for the holidays so my father and I could reminisce about the hardships wed have trying to figure out Castlevania 2 in the very late 80's while my Nephew gets his ass kicked for the very first time as we experience the enjoyable frustration of Ninja Gaiden.
However there is a difference between excitement and stupidity. $60 bucks for a little plug and play android machine that looks like a NES is a cute and nice holiday gift. That same product however loses such an image when its made available to absolutely no one and idiots are feeding into paying $300 for emulation that has existed for well over a decade including Nintendo's current consoles.
I understand completely. I have no interest in getting the mini myself. I do emulation myself. And people as a group tend to blur the line between excitement and stupidity. Speaking of stupid, here's a stupid question, what does smh mean?

Wait, so people are spending serious money on an emulation console you can't put new games onto, and then they're investing in peripherals for it?? For the amount of money you'd spend on the Classic, plus some extensions, plus a second controller, plus a joystick, why not just buy either an actual NES or a 2nd hand Wii and get the games off the VC? Shit, the U's getting pretty cheap 2nd hand right now.
The NES classic isn't for people like you and me who would do that. They're trying to appeal to people with no knowledge of emulation. There's a market for people that just want to buy it, plug it in, then play. They're good as gifts, mostly.
But I don't get buying a bunch of peripherals for it. All I want is a couple of the $10 controllers for NES emulation on my wii.

Totally. I know who this is marketed to, and while its not for you or me, its still sad to see people going crazy over it when they could spend the same on an Everdrive and have every game. Especially now that there's retro HD options beyond the retron emulation, like Anagloue and the AVS.

Did anybody else buy one of those third-party Wii U Pro controllers that had SNES-style buttons? Those probably were the same case. It works on the Wii as a Wii remote or Classic Controller, and works on the Wii as those things, but I was screwed when I bought it to use as an actual Wii U Pro controller. Really cool idea, wish it would've worked as advertised.

Steve Moran Duck Hunt and other zapper/light-gun games need a CRT television. There are no CRT TV's with HDMI inputs.
Apparently they're saying it's a bad batch.
SOME people have working models... because of the fact they had the adapter in the box.
I am actually more excited about getting a proper feeling controller for my homebrewed Wii than i am getting a classic edition. I guess I'm that guy.

The incompatibility is not caused by a hardware difference between Wii and NES CE. It's caused by the software polling the analog joystick when none exists. This will return coordinates of 0,0 (upper left), which will override your D-pad input and cause the "scrolling malfunction" mentioned in the reviews. Nintendo's own controller has the same WCP chip as a Classic Controller Pro so it must simulate the analog sticks in the center.

Sadly, we don't have a lot of Big Box Stores here in Canada. Target opened up here, and promptly closed 9 months later. We do have Best Buy, but that's about it (Canadian Tire doesn't count in this case).

Just glancing at the joystick, the buttons are different from the old Advantage. I loved that thing! I may still have it somewhere. The one for SNES was never as nice.

I think i remember using the Turbo Button on the NES Advantage to stay at the same height so maybe the Turbo Button is slower than the B Button?

I'm really curious about what they got wrong that made their controller not work with the NES Classic Edition. Like what specificially is wrong with this thing electrically, not the obvious "they didn't test it"...
Given that they're able to fix this thing with a (presumably cheap and small) adapter, I'm guessing it's probably something simple, just having to do with the signal integrity or voltage levels of the data bus. Adding pull-up resistors on the I2C bus, maybe? Or maybe their I2C signalling wasn't pulling the data line down low enough?

Do you think maybe they weren't lying about forgetting the adapter? I mean to fix something wouldn't they need to figure out what's wrong and what to do to and then make an adapter. Unless it's a generic adapter that happens to work then I'd assume they wouldn't have already produced them to be sent out, meaning they probably already had them and simply forgot to package it with the controller. I don't know the exact timeline and what it would take to make the adapter if it isn't something generic that's already available elsewhere.

The fact that you have to get up isnt the problem. Its the fact that you couple a short cord with a lightweight console and some people who get a little animated while playing can cause damage to the console. If the cord was longer or the console was heavier it wouldnt be that big of a deal. Also if you keep the stock cords its hard to reach to some peoples couches.
I'd totally pick one of these up for the Wii! I've had my Wii full of NES, SNES, Genesis, etc games for like 4-5 years now.
Hyperkin is coming out with an adapter for original NES controllers. When I can finally get my hands on a NES classic that is what I'm going for!

I doubt Nintendo would send a NES CE development kit to a 3rd party accessories maker which is in competition with Nintendo.

If you plug a Wii Classic controller in you can hit the home button on it and it will take you back to the homescreen, even if its connected on port 2....

As far as the Coleco Chameleon controversy goes, after playing with the Retropie for a few weeks, I wonder why they didn't end up using a Raspberry Pi for their protoype? It's super cheap and it'd be easy to make the claim that they were using it for the prototype stage. I guess we're lucky they're not that smart.

The product was obviously built for the Wii on which it works . They saw the mini NES hype are RE-packaged it assuming the connection is the same , it isn't. but sure somebody could of just tried it for real

The nes classic controller feels the same as the original to me in every aspect except for the fact that the a and b buttons aren't as concave. Whats up with that?

People are so quick to defend companies on this kind of stuff. I say it every time something like this happens and customers get cheated or misinformed, you are giving them your money, not the other way around. You are paying for a product, not advertising for them. DO NOT defend a company no matter who it is with cheap sales tactics and misinformation of products.
Mega Man 3 had a rock monster that's a redesign of the Yellow Devil, but he's a little easier.
Yeah, Yellow Devil appears in some form in several Mega Man games, but Pat's correct. He does not appear in Mega Man 2.

I was just gonna get the NES controllers with the Wii plugins to use on one of my Wii's since I dont plan on getting a Classic Edition cause I already have several Wii's that do the same thing an more an they were dirt cheap can pick them up for like $5
