I prefer it not being TV. The slower, meticulous presentation opens your mind's eye. On TV it'd be ruined by re-enactments and cutaways with Tsoukalos.

I love this series. This is probably one of the best channels on UA-cam for ancient civilisation history. I especially love the style of storytelling, the sounds, music, and the "voices/quotes" of historical people makes you feel as if you’re right there with them in that time period.

I would just like to say that while traveling is wonderful, you are not limited by your lack of experience. Despite what some say, there are many people who travel, yet remain culturally illiterate. Don’t forget that our recent ancestors, before the age of common travel, were well-versed in the history of many cultures. The men who founded the United States, for example, were typically educated in multiple languages (usually Latin and Greek) and they had deeply studied world history (much more than the average American today). Don’t ever let someone make you believe that you can’t understand foreign cultures because you haven’t had the opportunity to “travel.” It’s not often that people study even their own history these days. I would argue that if you pick a country and study its history deeply, you can, in fact, become more educated on the subject than the average citizen of that country. Nobody gets to gatekeeper history.

I got my interest into ancient civilizations from my world history class in the 8th grade. the story of the Indus River valley Civilization really stuck with me. it made me fascinated with how ancient civilizations around the world end in such a similar pattern. whether that be war, lack of resources, too large of a population, or climate change and other environmental issues. I started to do my own research, and that's when I came across this channel. next year, I'm going into 9th grade. and as someone who still wants to learn more, I really appreciate everything that this channel does. the audio quality is on point. I love to listen as I go to sleep and picture in my head how these civilizations got by until they're subsequent end. I'm planning on going to college when I graduate, and studying ancient civilizations. I love linguistics, and would like to be a linguistic anthropologist. so, thank you for making such great content. it really makes my day whenever you upload.

Your only fault is that your descriptions of the ancient world never fail to awaken an overpowering wanderlust in my heart. I do wonder whether the absolutely superb documentaries in the “Fall of Civilisations” series could be picked up, funded by, and broadcast by the BBC and/or PBS. I have been particularly impressed by the quality of the *WRITING* in the series. Nothing I’ve seen on either the BBC or PBS can rival the rhetorically engaging writing; thorough cultural and historical research; or high production quality of each of the brilliant episodes in the series. I hope to see the podcast on the Nabataeans turned into a video as visually alluring and poetic as those on the Han, the Songhai, Vijayanagara, the Assyrians, and Byzantium (my personal favourites).

Many Thanks for providing this episode. It's an excellent listen as usual! I always wonder what fallen civilization is next, but would never have thought of the Nabataeans. The story about the beating of the greek army was particularly exciting. It was presented in a way I could imagine to see a movie about it.

Beautiful and interesting. I tried to imagine what your next podcast could be about, but I must admit that Petra never crossed my mind. That city had to be really beautiful in its glory days. The Nabateans lived by trade and, at the end, they died by trade, when their city became irrelevant in the new order of the late Roman empire. The dismissal of Petra by the Romans reminds me of the similar behavior of the Spanish conquistadors in Peru. First they conquered Cuzco, and with it the Incan empire, then they built Lima as a new capital on the coast, because they couldn't endure the height of the Andes.
Next time you could make a podcast about the Sassanid empire, Carthage or the Etruscans. They would all make interesting stories.
