Nice review - thanks for posting. As an owner of a black one I'd like to add that the hill hold (a wonderful feature!) can be easily disengaged by simply pulling once on the brake lever and then you can pull away like normal. Also, the standard (non m seat) is much more comfortable than the M seat (I have both). One last point is that I've never had a false neutral on mine (just over 1,000 miles done) so may be just needing more miles riding in.

    • @LeeXRV
      @LeeXRV 2 роки тому +4

Remember the black models are the fastest! 😀 - the false neutral thing is just BMW boxes (I’m an owner of an RR and previously 2 x R’s) and ever modern BMW I’ve ridden seems to do it to some degree however it sounds like you’re one of the lucky ones!

Just wanted to say thanks and appreciate the time you've put into the content, this video has been very informative. I'm the type who will ride no matter what the weather is so long as a I avoid public transport. Even if its a 30-40k bike. Will get my money's worth as a daily commuter and weekend warrior. This video has me sold on the S1000RR as hopefully the last and final superport before I get too old and I feel like my back is going to break just commuting on it.

Got mine right at the start of the pandemic... Standard + all the various packages, making it the same as the M-sport except for the carbon wheels and the saddle. The normal saddle is softer, but it still reminds you that it is a sports bike after an hour or so. Pet peeves are very similar to yours: buzzy-ness at higher speeds, vibrating mirrors, finding neutral can be a bit annoying when the bike is cold, and said saddle. Otherwise use it as my only bike; so everything from puttering around in the city to multi-day tours. No issues with any of that. Overall comfort is amazing for the class, but on long stretches (3-4 hours without a break), you do start to wish for more padding.
Regarding luggage: BMW offers some soft cases that can go on the back. You need to select the rear seat instead of the plastic cover, and the bag then slots over it and is strapped down. Think top case instead of paniers. Use it when I go to sports, and it has enough room for an additional helmet and some extra stuff. Personally prefer a rucksack for touring though, as the large bag just make it feel less balanced. For day-to-day use I have the small BMW 1-litre tank bag that you can click onto two small pegs on the tank, which is perfect for wallet, phone, earplugs, etc.

Thanks for another great real-world review. When I was a younger man I spent many years with a sport bike as my only ride and used it for everything: commuting, multi-day tours, chasing my buddies around the twisties, and everything else. I no longer fold up so easily but still like one for an hour-long blast in the mountains. Thanks again.

Another great, real world review. Undoubtedly a fine bike although not really my type of thing. It might seem like a small point but it's good to see BMW fit right angle tyre valves. Why don't all manufactures do that, it makes life so much easier. I've had them on a couple of Honda's but sadly not on either of my Triumphs and with the spoked wheels my 1200 Scrambler is a absolute pain to get a air pump onto. Personally I'd have rather had right angle valves than the pointless keyless ignition!

Hi Gareth, As you may be aware, low cost aftermarket screw on nineties are available - mine just sits wrapped in a rag, under the seat, with a good quality tyre gauge (no rattles) and good to go, every time I need to pump air in.

Re the hill hold: - if hill hold is on, just briefly pull the brake lever and it should toggle off. That way you can relax in a hill, and just before you pull away, turn off the hill hold and not stall it! Keep up the good work!

Great looking and sounding bike, and definitely worth looking at if you are in the market for a sports bike. The lights look awesome, and the smooth change from dipped to main beam is something else, but I can't get my head round spending northwards of £20k, and throwing it around on a track day.

Hi, 7 year ametuer AMA racer here. I can tell you first hand 20k for a base platform to work on is CHEAP. I was sponsored by fox racing and Timex and it blew my mind how much money they poured into my 13 GSXR 600 AND 1000.
Its my belief the S1000RR was meant to be for race teams first, street folks second. For track only, I'd still go for the Japanese offers if I wasn't part of a team. MUCH cheaper to run.

@@TheMissendenFlyer Was great -despite the rain! Luggage was just a backpack, seems silly to load a bike like this with saddlebags when there are better options for that, but I was lucky to visit family to recharge and not need a huge amount. Probably not as easy to do camping style, but I am hoping to repeat this summer and do a longer trip down the west coast of Ireland. Having said that even the 45 minute burn for a lunchtime or evening ride is excellent!!

I have that bike and great review. I tested against last gen V4s and it was the ease of riding even on broken and muddy Buckinghamshire roads that sold it to me. I'm 6'2" and found the stock screen too low. I added a double-bubble but still find it quite noisy on the motorway. It is one of the most comfortable bikes I have owned.

Just bought my 3rd S1000RR and mine is the M sport, can't wait until the weather gets better. Regarding the luggage situation, i purchased a passenger seat which has two luggage loops underneath and funny enough it has the mountings to add an extra two just like the old bike had, took it along to a local upholsterer to have the straps riveted into place. This is then perfect to strap on Kriega soft luggage but remember to protect your paintwork with some rubber webbing from the pound shop.

Great video. I do use mine for touring and it is excellent at it. Luggage wise I use the Ventura system. To stop the expensive seat cover getting damaged, I bought a £20 fake carbon look one off eBay. Just put this one when using the Ventura as not bothered if it gets scratched. Would recommend the standard seat as better padding and also the M endurance chain.
Your comment on the protection from fairing is spot on. I find the design directs the wind around the grips and makes keep back of hands warm a lot easier. Find the protection from the screen better than the one on my F900 XR. Mine is just Sport version and not the M Sport so has standard wheels

Just love the way those LED headlights show up at night on the Go Pro. So amazed!! Certainly agree with their coverage as shown, both on DIP and on FULL!! As for riding, your English roads are so restrictive, both in view and space, comfort and safety. I wish you were able to test ride the bikes at speed on the Algarve coast or San Francisco west coast roads or in NZ!! Or on an open section of flowing corners with safe margins - oh, the TT roads in Ireland!! You do your best with what you have at the back door!

Typing from Downunder. I have a S 1000 XR. Talking of the Hill Hold. When one is ready to "take off" (lol, flying ref there) an alternative is to squeeze the brake lever AGAIN and the Hill Hold releases. Useful if one is not on a steep incline, as one then starts off in the usual way, i.e. using the rear brake. The Hold has served its purpose, while one waits. I use Hill Hold for long stops, e.g. traffic lights, road works' traffic lights or lollipop person and on inclines, but use the second squeeze to drop the Hold, and so avoid the problem you mentioned of having to "give it" lotsa revs, to "break" the Hold. So, this is an option to consider using, some of the time...

@ 8:09 I have a 30" inside leg. You can lower the bike by undoing two set screws and rotating a lh/rh threaded shaft at the rear suspension linkage.
I used a 3mm thick 21mm spanner to lower the bike (still on my toes) 2 different seats are available .5" above and below std. Expensive.

I’m glad you mentioned that you could tour on the bike, so many people think you can’t comfortably tour on a sports bike and that’s just flatly false. I tour all over the southeast United States on a CBR500R and have no issues at 55 years old. If you keep yourself fit and really work on your core it makes a world of difference. So many riders are not in shape or don’t keep themselves in shape it’s just sad to see them not choosing a sports bike because they aren’t fit, even if the sport bike is really what they want they “settle” on something else

I've got the sport s1000rr 2020. It's got the race mods.
Didn't see light battery and carbon wheel needed as not a pro racer lol.
Love my bike. So many people put it down as it had its recalls.
Mine had leaky brake calipers. Got replaced straight away by bmw.
I did 305 miles first day and I didn't feel any pains or discomfort. I no it has it cheap plastics but that keep price down. So us normal people can afford one lol.
Ride safe and maybe see you riding around soon 👍🏼

Nice video Andy. Shame BMW did not fit the new S1000R naked with the same twin lights as fitted to this S1000RR. I saw the S1000RR in a BMW add in a beautiful metallic green [the same green as on their new M series cars I think] and what an improvement to the bikes looks. I wish they offered it in the green as a standard colour. Keep em coming mate as particularly at this time of year not much is happening. Roll on the spring/summer.

As an owner of a M-Package as demo'd in the video I've ridden it through the winter on some dodgy dirty Devon roads that are covered in mud. For me, it's easy to get on with as I'm a shorty (5ft 7") so comfort isn't a problem. The M seat is supposed to be harder for ease of moving around on track, but I've not had any comfort issues so far.
SW-Motec make some soft case panniers. I've got a set, they're brilliant.
All in all, it's a brilliant bike and far better looking than all the others in class. Even your beloved Ducati :)

The lithium ion battery is directly under the seat. The seat is easily removed - just fold back the foam at the rear centre of the seat and you will see an allen key bolt - well its not an allen key but can't think of what the other type is called. Undo that bolt and pop up the seat from the rear and it just comes off. No nasty clips that are easily broken etc - very simple. Have to be carefull not to let the bolt fall into the innards of the bike though so that's about the only thing that needs watching.

  • @MattBKn
    @MattBKn 2 роки тому

To remove the riders seat, there is a single bolt with a T25 head underneath where the M logo is on your seat. You'll have to pull the fabric of the seat forward to get to the bolt, and then once the bolt is removed pull up on the rear of the seat and then the front will come off.

I opted for the pillion package ( rear seat + rear pegs) a no cost option even though I never carry a pillion passenger firstly because I frequently ride with heavy rucksacks and did not want all the paint of a painted rear cowel getting all scratched and then the rear pegs which come in handy as extra tie downs if the bike is being carried in a trailer etc and a handy fixing point for my tax disc - yes we still use tax discs in Ireland. Also I think all that white in the tail looks a bit awkward - the black rear saddle sets the rear off nicely as do the rose gold (same as engine casings) powder coated rear peg stays.

Thanks for posting. Great video, great bike. To remove the rider's seat, there is a 25 torx screw above the M logo between the seat and the rear cowl. You need to pull the seat cushion toward the gas tank and you will see the screw. You can get after market saddle bags via SW-Motech and/or Hepco & Becker. Both pricey and to me the Hepco & Becker seems to be better engineered. The M seat is suppose to be less comfortable. It is designed to be used on the track (weight savings) where comfort is secondary. :) The standard seat is easily more comfortable. To disengage Hill Control you also have the option of quickly pressing the brake lever and releasing it. This process will disengage HC. Works for the GS also. Totally agree with the lighted buttons on the handle bars. False neutrals also an issue with my bike. Panigale is still better looking as you stated. :) Vibrations are real since the engine lacks a counter balance. The side mirrors are c*ap.

Mr. Flyer, a small tip for you, when checking engine oil level through a sight glass is to put an old style telephone directory {not the Liliputian new ones} under the sidestand. You can then easily pull the bike towards you until it's level, bordering on teetering but it's safe enough. Anyway, at today's prices for bikes, I'd sooner get crushed than drop one.
