I'm late to the party (as always), but what an awesome reviewer Michael is. No stupid gurning UA-cam thumbnails, no 10mins of puff followed by 30seconds of actual content, just a clever, experienced, articulate professional, telling a viewer all the things they wanted to know. Superb. 👏

I bought my new M package in January 2021. About 7,500km up on it now. The bike has been flawless and such a pleasure to own. I have six bikes including a 2021 Ducati Monster plus and a 2022 Ducati V2 Bayliss edition and I still regard my BMW as my favourite bike in my fleet.

    Great honest review,
I had a deposit on an Msport but was messed around so much by BMW I cancelled and bought a 2018 R1M, bearing in mind that we all put deposits down without even riding the thing, imagine my trepidation when I eventually got to ride one, well I can hand on heart say I had no feeling of regret whatsoever! Yes it was a bit quicker than the Yamaha in a straight line but it didn’t feel as fun, didn’t have the character or the soul. And it certainly didn’t have the giggle factor that the R1 has, and the big thing is it didn’t make me feel special when I was riding it and certainly doesn’t make you turn round for one last glance as you walk away from it. It was a bit to clinical and German for my liking.
Before the R1M I had a HP4 Carbon for three years, that felt more special than the new S1KRR.

Good perspective. I’ve owned mine for 4 mths and I agree with its road credentials. It’s the sort of bike that feels better the harder you push it. Problem is that is always waaay above speed limits. It’s stressful because you need to push it to enjoy but then stressing a cop is about to put a radar on you and your license is about to get torched. If you own it you need to stretch its legs at the track. Otherwise i think it is very versatile. With the standard suspension you can go from a sporty road setup to a very stiff track platform all within the current system.

Hi yes i sold my MV F3 800 for that very reason -- now i find myself looking at s1000r's etc . funny thing is i came by a 2003 rsv which every time i go out on it i come back feeling better than i did on the MV ( the MV made you feel like you always could have and should have ridden it faster through a set of bends - which i thought was a bad mind set) I brought an indian FTR which is fun in many ways ( good engine but not a playful as feels to sit on as its long and heavy) but i think i will sell it in another year. i love my BMW R9T scrambler and a Husky Nuda. after 3 years what are your thoughts on the BMW rr.? cheers

@@relate97 Even if you are athletic it will hurt your back. Let's just be honest guys, if you aren't riding on track on a REGULAR basis , then buying a supersport type of bike is frankly stupid. The only reason you can logically defend it is for the looks of the bike and that's it. A naked type bike is superior in every, single, way, for the great majority of riders.

Really like the fast paced bullet point review, that works well ! also like the honesty, 9K miles is probably 18 months riding for me so its a really good length of time / mileage to be honest about the bikes feel & performance.
One question though ..... does it feel 'special' ? for £20K its not just about performance and power and speed .... it needs to feel special.

So to confirm, the '19 S1000R outperforms against the previous long term test where you reviewed the '17 GSXR 1000 and in 2020 the S1000 is still best road bike? I can't wait to take the V4S out. I took the S1000 out today and it does everything very well - great stopping power, ferocious top end, great dash and quickshift but I can relate to your point, it almost felt characterless and clinical. I jumped back on my Gen1 Mille and rode away smiling when I expected it feel like a bag of spanners.

Probably the best review I've seen of any bike . Based on long term experience and well presented. Looks like an excellent bike, if you are going to do track days.
I've even heard some argue the 47 BHP of an A2 bike is enough for the road, although I wouldn't go that far.
On the road anything much more than 100 BHP is pretty much unusable.
A 47 BHP bike will do the "ton" , and 100 BHP bikes do about 130 MPH and get to 60 MPH in about 4 seconds.
However I would like one of these and take it on the track !

    • @jackmccourt6180

      >100hp on the road is absolutely usable, not legally right enough but my 140hp ninja 1k can certainly open up on a nice straight no problem. My GS though makes a similar peak HP figure but the torque makes it absolute bliss for road driving.

Weird question for a bike like this, but on the rare occasion my gf wanted to join me on a ride, would I be able to mount pegs and have a pillion???
I ask this because I've been on the market for a 2019 Fireblade SP and while the subframe does have threads (or "boltholes"), apparently it's not rated for pillion use. I've even had the dealer here in AU contact the Honda rep to make sure.
I'm still doubtful about that (because why would the threads be there), as it looks like the subframe is the same as the non-SP bike, but with a different colour.

    • @jttcosmos
      @jttcosmos 5 років тому +1

Not sure whether it is currently being offered in all countries, but the one I ordered has a proper pillion seat instead of the plastic cover at the back (as well as the corresponding pegs of course). At least in Germany they basically make it a prerequisite if you want to put a bag on the back (which makes sense given the potential for scratches...).

@@jttcosmos Awesome... thanks so much for that.
Have some other stuff going on right now, but hopefully soon (ie. early next year) I'll be able to get my hand on one for myself. :)

Great review! My only complaint is the fit and finish is and looks cheap. All the black plastic bits loom like recycled plastics.

Saying it has CF wheels, cruise control, heated grips, linked sat-nav while none of the other bikes you listed have any of those, let alone all of them and then saying it isn't worth 20 grand seems a bit odd to me.

He felt like BMW cheaped out in some areas as compared to Ducati, please watch where he talks about paint & plastic pieces.

Did we watch the same video? He literally said this is the only bike that doesn’t have heated grips

Yeah but its got carbon wheels and best lcd dash so its better value than the others. But its not fun to ride compared to r1 and rsv4

@@relate97 We must have watched different videos, because he said it was the only one that HAS them. (though they are an option, I think, previous gen RR had them as standard)

I've seen several reports now saying its one of the best bikes, if not the best, to ride, but the reliability (of BMW in general) is not good, failure rates far above the Japanese bikes and down there with Indian and Moto Guzzi. Just wondered if you had any issues with the long termer or if anyone else has had any major issue? Asking not to slate the BMW, but because I do like and am tempted once the lockdown had finished. Cheers. (Not bothered with things like fork seals, more so anything that is a major pain).

That scuffed paint. Cant blame manufacturer but a plus review as always👍🏼
However, the bike... Thin paint, leaking shock, manufacturer crank quality issues ,, electronic warnings.. Hmmmm, i really wanted one, will wait for the next iteration or get the neww Blade
