A visit to the Bass Rock

  • March 2016 out of season.
Made with the permission of the owners.
Organised access can be made in conjunction with The Scottish Seabird Centre North Berwick.
We made our preparations at the carpark at Milsey Bay in the town of North Berwick , Scotland.
The plan had been quickly put together as a weather window had been forecast and the Rock was still relatively free from the gannets that are such a feature of this landmark for most of the year.
Neil Turnbull and myself launched our Rockpool Taran Kayaks at around mid day and made our passage directly for the rock.
We had permission to enter the confines of the Rock and explore with the Quadcopter.
Landing is difficult as even on a quiet day the swell can make a boat exit very awkward.

One of my many great times grandfathers was a reverand imprisoned here for being a Covenanter. I have chills watching this video. I appreciate being able to see it.

Benn on the bass many times over the years, with Fred Marr. Only time I have been on when no gannets was delivering Xmas mail to the keepers, a long time ago. Have pictures of the Marr daughter's birthday party, when she was 15. Oh, to be young again.

I loved my visits to the Bass. The fun of cleaning guano from the solar panels.

Hello, I used to live in Dunbar, so I appreciate this, it is usually hassle to get on there with the tides, cudos. North Berwick I think was the nearest point to the rock I think.

Home to over 180000 gannets, well that's a lot fish. You can't walk on the Bass Rock, all that bird shit.
