This is sure a "blast from the past" - I was 14 in 1959 when our family did the chain-walk (or a portion of it, for I don't remember exactly). All I remember was the old worn chains of those days and the so-called "Smugglers Caves" to look for somewhere along the way. My younger brother and I were thrilled and the word "scary" never entered our heads. Our parents must have been agile in those days. I have been in the USA since 1970 and I doubt I'd make it to "first base" in my (now) old age. Thanks for awakening a memory of childhood...

@@steve-marsh Been doing it in sections , still have bits to do. Just be aware there are many sections where you will be away from the coast , around Longannet , Rosyth , Leuchars , etc but it is still a great walk , well worth doing at some point. What a cool idea.
Smart, inventive people ... could have invented the steam engine, eh?

My mate and I went here via St Andrews. It was a weird day, sunny but with a strange light mist. I had an uneasy feeling about the place as we headed along the beach... I'm a bit sensitve/weird about some places sometimes and my senses went off the charts this time! I was walking ahead of my mate who had taken a phone call, and about 50 feet from the chains, I encountered this MASSIVE dead seagull lieing among the sand and the rocks. Looked like it had died recently too. That was it for me and I took it as an omen! Despite my mate trying to convince me for a good 20 minutes, I refused to attempt the chain walk. He did it and I headed back along the beach and met him later. The place felt haunted to me, and I actually looked online to see if any terrible events happened there in the distant past maybe. Alas, I didn't find anything. I still say; there's something off about that place!
