Such fond memories of this game back when Pokemon was exploding into popularity. Went from playing Red and Blue on GameBoy to this unique 3D experience. Being able to interact with the Pokemon in real time was unheard of when everyone was used to 2D pixelated images or 3D characters standing in one spot with an occasional text icon. It's boring and laughable now, but back then it was something most of us marveled at.
@@n64glennplant I’m just getting back into Pokémon I got sword a few months ago so still stuck on that atm , but I plan on it for sure , I’m probably gonna go back and play soul silver as well

Me too, it got so bad in school that our cool guidance counselor hosted one night in the cafeteria out of the week so all the kids in school could get together and trade and all other things pokemon 😅 I REALLY don't think a lot of people understand just how popular Pokemon was in the late 90s and early 2000s. It was ridiculous, absolute madness as far as Pokemon went during those times.
i remember the first time my cousin told me about this game, i had a sleep over at his house and he wanted to show it to me, at first i refused because just from the name i thought it was a card game because of the cards you could get and i didn't see the game case so i didn't know it was a N64 game, but then he showed the game to me and i love the game, ended up constantly borrowing it from him
The pokemon in this game had really believable A.I. for the time. In most n64 games the npcs would just stand there. But in this game the pokemon played with each other and interacted, which is something that was cool at the time. I personally feel like this is a game where u had to play it when it came out to appreciate it. It might bore most newcomers.
Yeah I always enjoyed waiting for my score to come through to see what Prof. oak was going to give me. I can also remember struggling to find a few Pokémon in this game but I probably didn't experiment enough.
A buddy of mine came over recently and we decided to boot up the n64 on the old toshiba box tv and as all of my other games were at college while I was visiting my family at home, we threw in snap and took turn and beat the whole game in about 5 hours straight because we were having an absolute blast. It's never ending secrets and angles and the satisfaction of improvement was addictive, and when playing on an old box tv with the tinny audio matched by the humming static of the cathode ray tubes was nothing short of a nostalgic bliss
I was a pokemon fanatic. I was so excited when this game came out I bought it before renting and at first I was dissapointed that it was on rails. a day or so later that didn't matter. this ended up being one of my favourite ever games on 64.
trying to unlock the all the cheats on goldeneye was sometimes too stressful. it was always nice to pop this game in and just enjoy the calm music and slow relaxing pace while getting some nice shots.
Ahh memories, I loved this game as a child. Loved seeing and exploring the open world levels and environments in the vehicle while taking photos of Pokemon growing up. Gosh I'm getting old, wish I could go back in time and experience in my childhood all over again!
I've always liked how relaxing this game can be. Often times I would just ride through a level and admire the many animations and seeing wild Pokemon just live their lives in 3D. The unlockables kept the game interesting for quite some time. I'll never understand why there's no sequel for the Wii U. The gamepad already works great as a camera in Project Zero 5.
Just curious, do you get all your game footage from playing it yourself or do you find various videos and download them then clip them together? I've always been curious how people make these kinda videos with commentary over them at just the right moments.
I remember going to Burger King with friends during lunch time to play on the booth they had there and print a few pictures, those were the days. I bought a complete copy recently, which is starting to become quite expensive, and the game still holds up. I wanted to play it before the new game comes out on Switch and I find myself having more fun with it than I did with Pokemon Stadium.
This was the very first video game I ever owned. Haaaa. I feel so old seeing this again, and sad. This really could have been a great spinoff series with a new game to go alongside each new generation and maybe an update to the original like the Japanese Pokémon stadium got before it came to America so it could have all of the Pokémon and new stages. Does anyone know if there are other games like this, kinda been getting interested in finding more laid back kinds of games like aquanauts holiday.
Glenn, you did a great job of describing why this experience was so amazing at the time! The design was almost like a digital equivalent of those storybook rides from Disneyland/world (which works way better on execution than it probably sounds on paper). Pokemon Snap, for me, was almost everything I had wanted Pokemon Stadium to be, after Pokemon Stadium turned out to not be what I had imagined. It was the closest you could get to a "Pokemon the tv show simulator" in the time it was released, and allowed the player to visit that world of the tv show, where all the Pokemon had personalities and small things like "stats" don't matter as much.
I loved this game as a kid. I could see how people would think it looks dumb just from watching some gameplay and hearing the premise but this is really one of those ones where its way more fun to play than it is to watch. i may have to bust this one out again since i haven't played it since i beat it back when it came out so it would probably be like a new experience all over again.
It was so satisfying to get those super high scores from Prof. Oak. I remember I had the strategy guide for this game and they posted the top scores for each Pokemon that the "pros" had gotten. I made it a mission to match and, when possible, surpass those high scores. Spend weeks if not months on it, but I actually did it. It was great maxing out all the scores for each Pokemon, especially because some would take dozens of tries because there was a lot of randomness and super fine aiming involved in getting the ideal shot. I always felt sad about not being able to print my pictures since I did not live in the US back when I had the game.
@@n64glennplant the concept was the same, however the thought of an open world, which is using your device's camera to see and capture pokemon was a step further....

It could have been cool to have some late/end game things like the abiity to stop your car so you could take your time. I was also a bit bummed that there was only like 63 Pokémon in the game, especially after reading from Nintendo that the game nearly featured ALL the Pokémon, while not even half of them was present. I believe the reason for this is that the models were probably lifted from the original first Japanese Pokémon Stadium game, where I also believe there was around that number of Pokémons. So they probably started work on Pokémon Snap around the same time while only having a few of the models to use, and even though the Pokémon game we got came out before Snap (The one with all the 151 originals) The work was probably already far along at that point. There needs to be a new version of this considering all the new Pokemon that've come out since.
