I saw my last close friend pass in 2013. He was no relation, but he was "family" and always introduced me to his friends as "his son". As he was lying on his deathbed, he called and wanted to borrow $75 from me. I gave it to him without hesitation, knowing I'd never get it back (I still tear up when I think about this). After he died and was cremated, I drove down to bring his ashes back so they could be spread along the river he once lived next to - and behind the restaurant where we would spend hours on end drinking coffee with friends - all of whom have passed on as well. I'm the only one left, and it gets lonely at times. I still have family, but most live in other states. I have one brother that I see as often as I can, but that's all. Other friends wonder why I don't find someone to hang out with again. I don't think they understand that there are "friends" and there are "friends". The current friends I have I don't see every day - they're not that "close" and no matter how I try, I can't get that close to them. No one will ever be as close as the friends I loved and miss.

I'm 54, my dad and his buddies would sit on the back porch and smoke doobies while listening to Dr. Hook and 10 CC. Way back in the 70s, now he's in his late 70s an still doing the same thing in his retirement.. coolest Dad ever!!
I play a little guitar and so does my son. One day he said that he could tell the difference between our generations, being that I played a lot of "happy" chords like C, D and G, where he plays rather grungy, angry, power chords. I am so glad I grew up in the Dr. Hook era of "happy" music rather than the rap and seemingly depressing music of today. I wouldn't trade my music for anything that passes for "music" today! Thank you, Ray and Dennis and the multitude of real songwriters from the golden age of rock!
I had the privilege of seeing Dennis in Babbacombe Theatre, Torquay, Devon 🏴, can't remember what year but he ws fantastic. Also worked in a pub in Paignton n started seeing a fella.....when i heard 'Sexy Eyes' more often than not it was him for for me. Great times/memories 🥰 Im 62 n from 🏴

I was introduced to dr hook by a handsome fella who sat up all night talking with me when i was out of town and alone and i just fell in love with the music...and him but we lived in different cities. So glad for the introduction!!!
Thank God for Video, Records, CD's, Cassettes, whatever.. so we can listen and or watch great music like this forever! There is no more music out there these days, Only what the greats have left behind for us! God Bless them all! ✝✝🎸❤💒🎵🎹
Oh yeah... When he wants a little bit more, but all a tired gal wants is a little peace...Dr Hook were great fun entertainment. Songs like 'Cover Of The Rolling Stone'. I recently heard a group of charity shop workers singing their own 'cover' versions of that, as they went about their work sorting old junk etc.Such fun music makes the drudgery of work and everyday life less tiresome and boring. Thank you for the music and fun.
@gregnormal55. Not intruding. Yes, do like your songs. They resonate with the lives of ordinary real people. The ones who grow society's foid, make things we use, serve us our drinks, cook, clean, haul stuff from A to B on transports etc. Well done. Thank you for the music.
@gregnormal55. Oh, they're all good buteven though it is very depressing, the agony of 'Sylvia's Mother Said' is one I regard as a masterpiece in songs about emotional torture.I recall being a teen and a young boy I fancied wanted to talk to me on the phone at a neighbour's house and my mother picked up the call and said to the my lover boy 'My daughter's too busy with having a new dress made to go out with to meet her future husband we have found her and he will take her back home to Europe because he hates it here in Australia, so better you go away'. But he we kept ringing back and the man of the house was getting annoyed. And I wanted to chat with that cute boy I fancied as my real true love husband. Sylvia's Mother was playing on the radio, on and on, just like that persistent young man. The man of the house got really mad, walked in, switched off the radio, glared at my mother then said 'You know what Sylvia's mother really ought to be doing? Just shut the f... up and stop interfering in other's personal, private life. A cold, deathly silence prevailed, as all the various aunties, mothers etc gathered gave each other weird, 'knowing' female looks. I just looked down. I hated the new dress. I hated the husband they had chosen for me. I didn't want to leave my homeland here. I just missed that boy so bad it hurt. 'You like nice new pink dress? Very pretty girl...' One of the ethnic women broke the uncomfortable silence.'Yeah, guess so...' I sighed, bored. ''You smarten up your bad attitude, young lady. You getting married to a refined man, you better smarten up your ideas! ' I was reprimanded, by a stern Anglo Aussie matron. I knew I had to escape from there and these women so like 'Sylvia's mother', who could be any interfering control freaking woman, really...That song is a masterpiece, though not a fun song like the others. I also like Cover Of The Rolling Stone and how it pokes harmless fun at the truth of the big time Rock Stars music industry, taking 'pills to get all kinds of thrills', but there's only one thing they all want that's but they can't have ...Simply be known, loved, admired, have fun doing music in latest style clothes etc for the sheer joy of it all. There was a time when local community fun at dances etc was what rock'n'roll was all about, complete with the wild, hot dudes,'bad girls', sexy chick's, beauty queens, loud music etc. Real fun was had, unlike now. It's so sad. How things have changed.

70'S we're such a magical dream that the sound of a certain song like this can take you to this time when you first herd it on the radio an went out and bought the record n 8 tracks
Lyrics:
When your body's had enough of me
And I'm layin' flat out on the floor
When you think I've loved you all I can
I'm gonna love you a little bit more
Come on over here and lay by my side
I've got to be touchin' you
Let me rub your tired shoulders
The way I used to do
Look into my eyes and give me that smile
The one that always turns me on
And let me take your hair down
'Cause we're stayin' up to greet the sun
And when your body's had enough of me
And I'm layin' flat out on the floor
When you think I've loved you all I can
I'm gonna love you a little bit more
Got to say a few things that have been on my mind
And you know where my mind has been
I guess I learned my lessons
And now's the time to begin
So if you're feelin alright and you're ready for me
I know that I'm ready for you
We better get it on now
'Cause we got a whole life to live through
And when your body's had enough of me
And I'm layin' flat on the floor
When you think I've loved you all I can
I'm gonna love you a little bit more
And when your body's had enough of me
And I'm layin' flat out on the floor
Thank you😊for these lyrics

For the life of me I don't understand why Dr Hook doesn't get the acclaim deserved them as great songwriters, performers and one hell of a band!
They've had so many hits! I wonder if they are in the R&RHoF? Not that's really a good indicator.
Well, I don't they get acclaim for their songwriting because Shel Silverstein wrote a lot of their songs.
many of their songs were written by Shel Silverstein specifically for them.
Oh, I just saw Larry's response above.
A lot of bands have songwriters but it takes real talent to perform it like they do.

Tiffany Guinn jes
Tiffany Guinn that is for sure what I would give to bring back that day when love was real and sincere when love wasnt just an application maybe I find it someday before my time ends I do hope I get to fall inlove again with godknows my heart desires and if I can feel this way then im sure there is more of us who will want it back and keep it real live face to face skin to skin and the sound of each others voice make u smile and warm I love love the original hearts candy kisses and holding hands
Lillian Gortarez I like it thanks for shAring
And We need women see us that way, to be loyal, nurturing, loving women. so we can show it. We've been duped into seeing each other as "wrong" but we're part of a whole.
Come ON! Carrie, carry me one more mile.
I don't know where its leading too,
But I KNOW I can make it if I LEAN ON YOU!
Alone men are broken, lost, obsessive creatures. Our anger is so hot it burns us. -But quench us with love, and we harden like fine steel.

@@raewynkarl9861 Oh yes, without a doubt!
@@markharold2732ciao Mark! 🙋♀️😊😘💘🌄
The best music ever in the 70’s without a doubt
@bryantbenson69 Hi I've been listening to these songs since the 70's
I like When You're in Love With a Beautiful Woman
What's yours
I went to see Dr Hook Derek Locorriere in Liverpool last year it was wonderful
Near Liverpool
Agree 💯
And 70s music was so much more melodic. Like completely.
Like the older music too
Absolutely love this song. Thank god my mother brought me up with this music still listening March 2024
To see Ray and Denis singing together just - kind of - makes you warm inside, makes you believe in humanity, friendship.
Yes 😊😊
This was the most wholesome comment I've read in years... Thanks for the fuzzy ^^
And makes you miss the 70s.

@gregnormal55. Australia. Yes. We can chat about music and shared commonalities
