- A short film showing how to use a Gilson Micropipette. The film was made to support the teaching of undergraduate Biological Science students at the University of Leicester.
The film was produced by GENIE, based within the Genetics Department at the University of Leicester. Further information and materials can be found on the GENIE web site www.le.ac.uk/genie and the GENIE VGEC web site www.le.ac.uk/vgec
The film was directed by Jon Shears of ITS-Multimedia Services and the film was produced by Raymond Dalgleish, Nicola Suter-Giorgini and Cas Kramer.
This is the best Pipette instructional video I have found thank you.
Cube Hir. e
only pipette video that shows how to read the the P2...Thank YOU!!!...just saved me from getting hell from my lab proff
I laughed so hard at that sound effect for the "Don't Do's".
The Nos sounded like a broken tuba or a fart
me too!! the sound...was great! :)
haha that's how you'll remember the do's and don'ts
poooo poooo X .......... LOL
This video made me want to micropipette some liquids so bad
Not as easy as it looks mate
No bro
What my teacher could not explain
Like first stop and second stop
Easily explained by the mam ,for me to understand.
Really helpful ❤️

Without a doubt the most helpful and informative lab video I've watched. Thank you very much.
Oh yeah, all this talk about the tip got my body tingly!
Thanks University of Leicester for this video, well explained thank u.
How a clear explanation. I'm going to do laboratory practical tomorrow. This may help a lot to me.
lecturer told me to watch..
and i found it very useful!!! Thanks!!
Awesome video, answered all my questions.
This video was terrific. Thank you
I had to watch this for uni, but it's actually so interesting!
You've covered the possible ways the pipette can be contaminated or damaged, but you've failed to follow up on what to do about it. I started working in an analytical lab over 20 years ago and they were having trouble passing the unknown quantitative metals tests each year required by the EPA. My first year on these analysis's I was testing the output of my eppendorf pipette on an analytical balance with reagent grade water to insure in was delivering the proper volume before making my standards. Another analyst asked me what I was doing , I told them and they then said." well I worked in the medical field for over 10 years and we never tested our pipettes". All I could think was no wonder so many people die in hospitals if this is normal SOP in the medical field. If the pipette is found to be not delivering the set volume it must be taken apart and cleaned or repaired !!!! After this all our measuring equipment was checked closely for accuracy. We never failed our yearly test again .
Awesome story, that's making the world a better place.
The first thing I did on receiving a new pipette was to test it. a) for accuracy, b) for repeatability and c) to check my technique. That analyst wasted 10 years.
thanks heaps - helped my prepare for my first molecular biology lab! :)
same but 6 years later
@@xeryd6037 same but a month later
P2 range: 0.2-2ul
P20 range: 2-20ul
P200 range: 20-200ul
P1000 range: 100-1000ul
(in this case u is the symbol for micro, or 10^-6)
As a biochemistry student, my heart breaks everytime the liquids touch the actual pipette.
But great video for learning what to do and what not to do.
I feel this lol
honestly, the part which the video demonstrates dos and don'ts is the best
this is so detailed, i learned a lot from it
Thank you for this, I'm a micropipette pro now!
Literally the best pipetting video ever
I have a Biology lab pre-quiz tomorrow, haha thank you
Same
Thanks for risking your pipette for us
not bad for an instructional video.
these science instructions are usually 20 years old and out of date. this video was really well done--with camera angles, explanation, and reasonings
That was an excellent revision of my 4 years of study in lab.
Such a helpful video! Very thorough.
I agree!!
Literally I found gem in the form of this video
Sounds like Douglas from the IT Crowd, great video!
this was honestly a really helpful video thank you
greatest demonstration ive evr seen good job
best explanation so far
Guess I should have applied to study at Leicester. Sheffield doesn't have as high quality teaching material as this video
is there genetic engineering lecture series? if yes than please do post it.
Thank you this video explain the process of pipetting very clearly
This video truly helped me! Thank you!
This video is super helpful... so very detailed
Great video. The [X] don't-do's were entertaining
Thank you, this video is really helpful
thats the best video i hv found so far!
Nice work.. I understand now... Thank you very much 👍👍👌😊😊
You have been very helpful. Thanks
Excellent video, thank you for bringing such a great content, University of Leicester! Subscribed : )

Thanks, so helpful
Soooo Helpful!! Thank you: :)
Best video tutorial I have seen.
Thank you so much! A very helpful video!
Thank you so much for making this video!
Thank you very much very informative video. kindly tell me how to pack culture of nitrifying bacteria in sashay or a bottle actually i am asking about the media some people pack bacteria in powder form which media they use to bring alive bacteria into powder form?
Best Video! Thank you very much!
Cood... amazing explains
Thank you شكرا
Hi may I ask does the
Pipette need to be vertical at all times even when dispensing liquid and
Does the pipette tip need to be against the wall of the receiving tube during dispensing ?
Thank you
excellent video, thank you !
Thanks a lot for the best video 😊💗
excellent, very analytic!
Thank you for creating this video
Very useful tips, thank you. :)
Thank you so much
very helpful! way better than the shitty video my school gave me!!
If we have to use the second stop to eject the volume into the receiver tube there is going to be bubbles with that which is going to give you inaccurate results when say you are measuring the OD of serum samples. And if we don't use the second stop there would still be liquid in the pipet tips. What do we have to do?
This was perfect. Thank you
Excellent explanation thank you!
Excellent video.
wonderful...love it and learn it..keep uploading please
Thank you for such an informative video ! Loved it :)
thank you for this info that ill prolly never use lol im not even a biologist or chemist
Thank you. You explained properly..
Best pippetting vid out there!
perfect explanation, thank you!
light work
Excellent PLEASE .give examples of calculation of valume...
A lovely job indeed!
fantastic video
Is... is that Matt Berry narrating this video?
"puhpet"
Puppette! It's French.
'Whilst' is the worst. Why not 'while,' dear Brits et al.?
But excellent video, thanx Leicester.
+UniversityLeicester How should we clean the cross-contaminated pipettes then?
Thank you so much. It's useful.
good video, thank you!
Thank you
University of Sydney Baby !
So satisfying.
Damn! What about those Pipettes? I’m not sure why, but I really want to work in a lab Pipetting the day away. So gadgety!
Great video!
Do they pipette in micro-gallons and milli-cups in America?
Amazing tutorial.
***** I have a question. What about working with thick, viscous liquids? Can a micropipette work with thick, viscous liquids such as vegetable glycerin? I need to work with vegetable glycerin in amounts of 100uL. thanks for the video, very helpful (+1 : 430)
Can use a positive pressure pipette
¡Muy excellente! Totally ready for lab!
great video ...
Very helpful! Thank you!!!
I always take low volumes or can't take any volume. What is the problem?
Thank you :) helps my lab bio a lot :)
Great for preparing blotters!
such a good video
awesome vid thank you
I love how they said DONT DO something and then proceeded to do it and showed why not, its too funny lol. Like u can just say, u dont have to break it. I am saddened you didnt show NOT stabbing someone with pipette lol XD
Thank you!!!!
thanks sir please explain me about digest dna what is that???
thanks! it is very useful!
Thank you.
