I own two from Seestern. A blue dial S435 in S.S. (with Seagull ST2130 high beat movt) and a black dial S446 in S.S (w/ S.I. NH34 GMT movt). Fantastic watches. I own plenty of luxury (Rolex, Glashutte...) and microbrands (Steeldive, Deep Blue, Aragon, Android, Thorn...)...probably close to 35 watches (plus another 75 inherited from my dad). These Seesterns are excellent timepieces for daily wear and business casual. They look great...fit and finish are excellent for the money. Quality materials and wristbands. Definite recommend.
Nice review. I also picked up this watch in this color way. Without a loop or tight macro shots, the dial and indices and hands are actually remarkably beautiful and well done. Of course, if I had the Grand Seiko OG, I’m sure the difference in execution would stand out, but this watch stands on its own to the naked eye and is a truly beautiful watch with a great dial at this price point (and at even a significantly higher price point comparison in the micro brand world). Also, going bold, it really pops on a red band!

I always enjoy your thorough and informative reviews - you're one of the best on UA-cam. Surprised you describe the dial as "cheap looking" as it's quite stunning to me (the imperfections revealed in your macro shots notwithstanding). Perceptive point you make regarding caller vs true GMT. I always wondered why the latter is so revered. As you point out, you can utilize a caller GMT when travelling perfectly well. Looking forward to your review of that Islander.

And ya it may just be perspective, I’ve seen a lot of good quality dials, and even a lot of good quality affordable dials, but this one I think could’ve been executed better. Having seen the original it was trying to imitate, I just feel this one could’ve been done bette going for its own thing slightly more.

A note on Seestern depth ratings. I have one diver from them and have had it tested. While I couldn't guarantee it for every watch out there, mine passed easily.

I always look forward to your reviews, as they are among the most comprehensive ones with lots of details. Regarding the watch, it is quite beautiful. Unfortunately, the sizing is off for me. Such a dressy watch shouldn't be any larger than 38mm and by omending the glass back they could make it thinner, which is always welcome.
Great review. Your pros and cons were dead on. It's really surprising how close they got to the real thing ! And I agree with you, with a little more effort, something different and unique could be achieved.

depends if you are thinking sporty or more casual dressy. I haven’t seen the tsuyosa in person but of those options I’d probably recommend the kamasu or bambino. To be fair this western is good too but probably the less dressy than the bambino.

Hi Gary, excellent reviews. However, it would be great if you would either give links to the watches or at least the model numbers. Particularly for the Addiesdive, they make a lot of watches that look somewhat similar. I’d like to get it, but I could easily get the wrong watch.

Great review, fair criticism I think. The watch looks so much better on a strap, I think I would prefer them to ditch toe bracelet and spend more time on doing a dial with a twist. 19mm lugs 👎
Pretty much agreed. I’m not opposed to the 19 lugs as finding those types of straps aren’t too hard now but it does suck if you already have a bunch of 20s and can’t use them!

@@theknightswatch I prefer it on the bracelet but I do have two very nice leather rally straps (a gorgeous antique mahogany and a vibrant red) that complement it superbly.

They do sell a flat beige and blue version that looks great
I almost ordered that one but the beige really isn’t my color watch wise. It probably does feel higher quality overall than this. Then again the blue hand could potentially feel a little cheap depending on how well they did that
Please tell me, why is there a fourth hand, what does it show? I apologize for such a question, but I'm just beginning to understand watches
The 4th hand is what’s called a gmt hand. This tracks the hour on a 24 hour scale instead of 12 and lets you see 2 time zones at the same time on the watch
I love this watch but that 19mm lugs is giving me a bit of pause. That's a weird choice of lug size. I already have a case full of 20mm straps/bracelets and a case full of 22mm ones. I don't want to set up another case.
Completely get where you are coming from. There are a good amount of watches out there in 19 or 21 mm strap sizes. It’s annoying but you got to bite the bullet at some point haha

I’m looking into buying some chinese homage watches. I have a question, do you ever regret purchasing them for the very reason that they’re homages? That’s my fear.
Depending on how much you love the design/model/brand, you'll always want the real thing over the homage
I think as long as you divorce the idea a little bit that although it looks like the watch it isn’t gonna to completely fill that same hole, then you are fine. My baltany Vacheron look a like I love and if I was given the Vacheron for free, I’d still wear the baltany. If it’s a good watch, and you know you’ll enjoy it, that’s all that matters really.
I have a few of these watches including the teal version of this Seestern GS homage. And I can tell you that these watches are just a great way to learn what you like with low risk. So you have regret buying a $100 watch donate it to the local church and move on. But you get to keep the learning. I recently got my first high beat movement watch and I learned that I don’t really care about that. Lesson learned for cheap!

For the same money, Seestern "could" use a PT5000 movement...
For me (personaly) there are too many polished surfaces... dont like this...
Definitely excited to see more uses of that movement. But is it going to be reliable is a big question too. We’ll see!
Yep - thats the question... i get my first PT5000-Watch (Proxima PX1711-1A) within the next two weeks and yes, we will see if it is reliable 👍
