I always keep some dried plantain on hand. Once I sliced my finger and didn't have any bandaids. So I picked a plantain leaf from my yard and wrapped it around it. It quickly stopped bleeding and healed up super fast. Love this herb and thanks for bringing it to more people's attention. :)
Please consider becoming a Patreon to this wonderful channel. It has a wealth of information. He has helped my chihuahua/Pomeranian mix pups so much! They still have their regular vet visits and shots of course, but everything else I’ve been able to find natural remedies from him. The first year of their lives I had over $5,000 in vet bills. And they were having constant seizures which I never got an answer to. My pups have been seizure free going on 3 years following this docs very simple natural suggestions. I’m retired and on a budget so my monthly donation is not big by any means but I truly believe every little bit will help this channel stay open to us. It really is a gift worth investing in for your fur babies and your own peace of mind! 🥰👍🐶🐶😺😺
Thanks Veronica :-)
Veterinary Secrets Thank you Doc! 😊
Tula is the bomb! So darn cute! My Shih Tzu would not cooperate 🙊
😂😂The Tula-meister! 😂We love Tula!!
We love your animals!!
Plantain is awesome for bites and stings (I use the fresh leaf for nettles and mosquitoes), but for wounds - particularly those which would "require stitches", my go-to is yarrow if the wound can be bound, raw unpasteurized honey if binding is not an option (say, on the back of a chicken). Yarrow is antibiotic as well, but it is also a coagulant, so it is excellent for wounds that are bleeding profusely! I have used crushed plantain on wounds myself when yarrow was not available.
I also use plaintain in all medicinal teas for my livestock when they come down with "sniffles", but - since I never know exactly what is afflicting them without going to the vet for testing, I combine it with other herbs (aka weeds) that carry various properties in order to ensure I have all bases covered ;)
I have also added plaintain to my green smoothies when my gardens were between harvests ;) It's good stuff, and it grows anywhere that soil has been previously disturbed! ;)
Honey is SO great for everything!
😂 Poor Tula, she’s such a good girl for tolerating your demonstrations! Plantain is also good for pain for humans! Thank you Dr Jones for this reminder!
My chihuahua Roxie always gravitates to those plants when her stomach pains her. She will stand at the door to get out back (we don’t let them out back without us). But she demands grazing on them when she’s not feeling well.
Hi just wanted to say I think you have a beautiful kind soul!! Thank you for sharing everything you do. 🐶
Thanks @Spring Harn
+1 I strongly support your statement.. off late veterinary secrets is the channel that I come looking for when I come across any problems with my dog.. unlike other channels he is not promoting products of his own mostly and suggest naturally available remedies which is very helpful for people looking for solutions around the world..
Yr pooch accomplice is so cute...tail wagging as if to say : "Listen folks, not only is my dad ok in the looks dept. But also great in the grey cell dept. SO take note!!!"
Adorable - such helpful info always... Tks doc...
Big hugs from Cape Town....
Thanks!
LOL That Tula sure is a good sport.
This plant is called Llantén in South America, scientific name Plantago major. It was very much used by aborigines for it's wonderful medicinal properties. It grows by railway tracks, and almost everywhere in Argentina. Chewing a couple of leaves cures mouth sores almost immediately.
Tula is such a good sport. Letting you do whatever you want to do.
The dried seeds of the stamen can be used like psyllium fibre.
It is equally successfully used for humans. Healing cuts and wounds - miracle!
“Here, have some plantain tea.” 🍵 🐶😹
Love how comments talk to Tula, like there waiting for a response from a poodle...
Tula is such a star. I'll share more tail wagging response next time. ;-)- Dr. Jones

😂Thank You So Much Tula for the best laughs I've had all month! Hilarious! You had me giggling watching you with your wrap. Tula, you're priceless! What a good sport.
Thank You Doc for the important information! I know, it's all your idea, so you're equally to thank for my giggles.😁
Yes I have this in the Spring,& Fall.... I pull it up. Now I will be saving the leaves to dry. Thanks! I always would rather use natural to chemical.

Plantain is awesome as a decongestant and is delicious in salads!
Thanks for sharing!
Tula waves her foot around as if to say, “What do I do with this?”
So adorable🐾🐾💜It’s okay lil poodle☺️
Oh Tula you are such a schnookie 🐶💞
Oh. Wow. Now I know why my dog always digs this up (leaving big holes 🙄😒) and chews them up root first.
It's easy to make an oil. Heat olive oil and pour into a jar of plantain. Jewel weed is a strong antihistamine. That helps a lot.
Im excited to try on my baby girl, (13yr) Chihuahua. Rescue with CHF. The recommendation to give her honey and lemon juice for her cronic cough worked. Its cut back. She wasn't able to sleep through the night before. She didn't like at first. I really think she connected the dots. She now stares at and barks for more from her premixed bottle lemon/honey when her coughing starts. Going out to gather some Plaintane to help to try. Thank you for your holistic treatments. Many do work. I have 4 doggie furbabies.
Hope it helps
Love plantain. Great for gut and all skin issues. Just as gut healing as dandelions
My grandmother and grandfather would feed that to their rabbits that they raised
My rabbit loves it too. I usually give her few leaves everyday when it is in season.
My rabbits loved that I called them rabbit ears
Oh yeah, I know I got that in my yard. Have to wait till the snow melts before I can get some.
I raised cane corsos for 25 yrs. 20 yrs ago so very few then ! On the 100+ acre farm . They ran full out ! Never sick ! Home cooked food with some high end kibble . Good job Sir !
I follow your channel, but I about a two weeks ago I remembered my grandmother used to grab plantain, made me chew it, then would wrap it around whatever area I had cut or scraped calling it “a natural bandaid”. Usually with a few minutes the bleeding would stop and it would stop hurting…I was a kid so when the bleeding stopped I’m sure that did lots in making my injury fell better. My grandmother used it all the time, but I remember her using plantain more when we were camping. I feed this to my 4 GSDs, they love it.
Tula is so cute and such a great sport
I have it growing in my back and front yard. Very cost effective.
LOVE THIS! Wish my family knew about this when I was a kid. When we first moved to Texas from Michigan our dog never experienced fire ants. We tried to teach her to keep away from the mounds but it took a few times of her stepping in one to figure it out. The only remedy we knew at the time that seemed safe was to use meat tenderizer and make a paste to put on her paws. It worked and brought relief (even if she licked some of it off😂). I used it too as a kid on bug bites. I'm going to check out plantain plants fir my cat and for me as well with seasonal allergies.😁

I have the narrow leaf plantain in my garden in Western Australia, not the broadleaf (has a different flower) - glad to know I can use it on my dogs. I encourage it because it's so pretty!
Hi Dr ! I'm going to definitely try this. My chihuahua has a cough that comes and goes and this seems like it will soothe her throat and give her some relief. Thank you Dr for all you do. I truly love you and your channel ( your babies too ! ) Take care !!! ♡♡😘
Love your dog ❤️
You can also buy it in a tincture form as well
But you don't want to give alcohol to your pets.
@@coleens.6212 They have it in Alcohol Free
I used this on a yellow jacket sting myself last year and it did wonders.
Never knew this. Thank you! And I love Tula, she sure loves you

I've been using this plant for years. Mosquito bits cuts burns etc. Did not know it was safe for my cats and my dogs.
Thank you! My backyard is full of them.
Just found this channel and love it...i really appreciate learning whole body holistic health for animals.
in Dutch: " Weegbree" very common here! we have a wide and narrow leaved species...
Yes Bravo
Would this be helpful for my Chihuahua with an enlarged heart with cough. She's only on blood pressure med for this condition. Just wish I could do more for her.
I have used crushed plantago many times on bee stings. Just remember to seek help immediately if you are having anaphylaxis!
Agreed the broad leaf is a source of metamucil seeds, the narrow leaf is very good for small cuts, scraps, just bruise and place on the area
Hi I’m new here! I love this channel, so much information and so holistic, I love it.

Isn't there a plant that mimics plantain that's toxic? Seems like l heard that somewhere.
Tula is so sweet. What a doll. 💜
Very interesting. The plantain that we know of here in the Caribbean is actually a soft bark tree whose fruit is kind of family to the banana or fig. You can either boil it or fry it. I wonder if we have it here and what it's called?
For wrapping your own wrist, cut off the tube part of a a sock and use that to secure your poltice

Wow!! doctor
thank you so much for this great remedy my pitbull has so many allergies constantly scratching herself sometimes can't even sleep I have to give her Benadryl just to calm her down it's too expensive for me to take her to the doctor all the time so this is great to give her I will try it as soon as I can.
Im so sorry😢 Have you tried the b.a.r.f diet on her? Maybe it will help on her allergies. And you could use this remedy topicly.
Have you tried just feeding her meat? Mostly beef and liver? My dog is thriving on this...has easily 3x more muscle too!
Where do we buy vet wrap?
There are YT vids on how to make plantain salve with I thin olive oil and bees wax. Also is it worth mentioning that a.chronic cough needs to be checked first incase its heart related :) Thanks. Love your videos. Ps: Is it ok for cats to injest too? Would the olive oil and bees wax be safe if a cat or dog invested it?

Good morning Dr Jones. Well, it is only 05.30 am in England. I have seen this plant growing in my garden and thought it is weeds so I remove it. I am not sure if I can buy this dried herb in England. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and family.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your family :-)
Can all of these remedies also be good for cat's? And thank you.
