This song samples Bette Midler's "Mr. Rockefeller." In that song, Bette Midler talks through the music, which is where Kanye got the idea.

I come from a very humble and blue collar family, like those growing up in the struggle I grew up wanting to better myself and my future to not just be able to provide for my parents/family but for my future family as well. In may, 2021 I graduated college with my engineering degree and let me tell ya.. I ain’t used to making this kind of money. 😅 for Christmas this year you best believe I’m flying back to my moms house with a Louie Bag. She’s gonna be a Louie Vuitton mom 😎
Shit got hella hard Financially all of 2020 and spring 2021 with the whole pandemic, and this song was constantly on repeat during the tedious school grind of my final semesters of undergrad despite everything else going on. I couldn’t have gotten through it without this song and the entire college drop out album. Different but same circumstances, but I felt I could relate to the struggles he mentioned in this song and that shit helped me push through and now we done made it!
To all of those in the struggle in High school and college classes of 2021 and beyond, GET THAT SHIT, you already got the blueprint, all you gotta do is want and manifest that shit. I promise there’s a light at the end of the tunnel whether you’re at the entrance, middle or close to the end. Walk straight with your head held high, never stop believing, grind, and you WILL STAY BLESSED! I fuckin love y’all even if I don’t know y’all. I’m out. LOVE🤟🏽

JONATHAN HOFFMAN it all depends on how you look at it. He can no longer make music like this because he's not living that life anymore, it'll be fake if he did. Ppl saying they miss this Kanye but when he drops songs with meaning like a new slaves, blk skinhead, gorgeous, or even small little gems in interviews ppl quick to say he's rich what does he know. That why I.personally don't agree when ppl say things like "we miss old Kanye" majority of the time. "New slaves" was an updated 2013 version of "all falls down" but ppl said "he's rich, But he's a slave? Ok" lol things like that

Kanye has singlehandedly changed hip hop and I don't think he realizes it. Everyone aspires to dress in his fasion. When he wasn't famous. Hip hop was wearing Jerseys and big white t's. Now we wear multi color polo t's and fitted shirts and jeans. He is simply a living legend in hip hop making history right under our noses.

I like his early music the most because you can feel his hunger and hatred. The production isn't perfect, his rhymes stumble at times. He feels like a person I could know or become. It's almost like, if I can grasp his original power, I too can become something truly great. The question is, do I need to nearly lose my life in a car accident to realize life's value? Or do I grasp it without understanding why?
