It actually changes a little the verses (for example the "look back on my life like the ghost of christmas past" flow is different. He also said "in the same hospital where biggie and pac died", but latter found pac didn't die there so he changed it for smalls)

I miss this Kanye before he lost his mom, before the Kardashians destroyed him and before he lost his way. There was a light in his eyes, an optimism and sense of humble determination in his early songs. This song is a reminder of the once in a generation talent this man had.

Through the Wire was the first time I heard Kanye. It was on Christmas Eve 2003 and I remember I saw it on MTV at like 2 AM. I was 18 years old and I was home on Christmas break as a junior in high school. I was like "Oh my God, who is this? My mind was blown." It's crazy, and I'm really lucky that The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation were the soundtracks to the final high school years and the next four years away at college. I'm now a 34 year old nerdy Dad and I still find myself coming back to these songs so regularly.
Crazy cause I'm the same age and was up about to sneak out my window that same exact night and time and heard this on the TV as I was exiting. I definitely wore my seatbelt that night tho. *btw MTV's Undressed had just went off and I believe it was Kurt who broke the news. Oh the fun days

Their closeness and her constant praise for even the smallest of things she let him know and she said it all with that Donda smile. There was one point he asks his mum does she think he's arrogant and her reply was so loving, reassuring and supportive.
