I still remember I was about to leave the house as a kid and this was the last video on 106 & Park. I was like "what is this low budget ish?" I ended up just standing in my doorway locked in and instantly became a huge fan of Mr. West.
Through the Wire was the first time I heard Kanye. It was on Christmas Eve 2003 and I remember I saw it on MTV at like 2 AM. I was 18 years old and I was home on Christmas break as a junior in high school. I was like "Oh my God, who is this? My mind was blown." It's crazy, and I'm really lucky that The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation were the soundtracks to the final high school years and the next four years away at college. I'm now a 34 year old nerdy Dad and I still find myself coming back to these songs so regularly.

I still remember I was about to leave the house as a kid and this was the last video on 106 & Park. I was like "what is this low budget ish?" I ended up just standing in my doorway locked in and instantly became a huge fan of Mr. West.
Through the Wire was the first time I heard Kanye. It was on Christmas Eve 2003 and I remember I saw it on MTV at like 2 AM. I was 18 years old and I was home on Christmas break as a junior in high school. I was like "Oh my God, who is this? My mind was blown." It's crazy, and I'm really lucky that The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation were the soundtracks to the final high school years and the next four years away at college. I'm now a 34 year old nerdy Dad and I still find myself coming back to these songs so regularly.

Man, I loved when Kanye was playing this for Pharrell in the studio in the documentary, and Pharrell just started feeling it so much that he immediately broke out in dance. That shows you just how much of a genius song it is, that one of the greats just had to dance(dance is one of highest, purest responses to great music). This song would've went straight to number one, if people saw what Kanye went through and he was famous at the time. Kanye is one in the long line of absolutely gifted black musicians, the ones that changed the face of music at whatever time they were in..
