This song is one of Kanye's best. The groovy guitar in the background and the lyrics are his best ever perhaps. The way every line just rolls off the tongue and each one of them is great, there's not a bad or mediocre lyric in the whole song, just firecrackers.
This and "Devil in a New Dress" are my favorites on an amazing album. Do you think people will look back in 30 years and say "Maybe this guy was everything he thought about himself."?
Exactly how I felt after I stated listening to him. Used to hate on him when I was younger seeing everything media said about him. No, in 30 years we will not look back at him and think he was a supernatural diety, thats what he claims about himself. This album is already a classic and a great album, but god and gods are fictional

Seriously dude? Is this the first hip hop song you have ever listened to? I like this song which is why I am here but holy shit.... Best beat? Hook me up with some of the shit you're smoking man.
It still makes me sick that this album didn't get nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys. He not only created the best album that year, but also one of the best albums of all time. It was dark, emotional, self-deprecating, funny, scary and all around good. It just proves that the Grammys are a popularity contest.
Damn. Its crazy I had the urge to play this album on its 4 year anniversary and I didn't even realize it, I guess this one is embedded into my soul. This album got me through some challenging times 4 winters ago... "Tell em hug and kiss my ass, X and O" This album was an INSTANT classic.
Pattyy2 No its not ambiguous. The forefathers of hip-hop told us exactly what it was. It's a culture. A movement. We don't need anymore blurred lines causing confusion just because people on the outside looking in want to weigh in. If Chuck, KRS, Cube, Rakim, KooI Herc, Nas, Bambataa and Melly Mel are calling it one thing, it would be ignorant to call it something else.
It's a great line... Clearly, he's not arguing against the merits of Hip Hop as a cultural phenomena. That's obvious & literal... The metaphor (& hence the aspect that makes it open for interpretation) is the idea that Hip Hop as a form of expression addresses existential concerns - about the shit we believe & desire; about our dilemmas, about the shit we "worship." So, he frames it up as a question in that context... Hell, America is country but, beyond the literal, for some it's an "ideal," too... Anyway, it's a cold-ass line from a mf that's thinking on another level. I didn't know the dude was that dope...
One of the best records of all time. "I need more drinks and less lights and that American Apparal girl in just tights she told the director she tryna get in a school he said 'take them glasses off and get in the pool'" For some reason that line hit me hard.
Almost two years after this album came out, these songs sound as fresh and fierce as ever. Especially Gorgeous, possibly one of the top 5-10 Kanye songs ever.
An artistic masterpiece of an album that tells a story about the beauty and dangers of fame and love presented in amazing ways with extremely realistic musical elements with pianos and orchestral sounds, and amazing usage of sampling small elements of some know/unknown 1960’s, 1970’s & early 1980’s old school songs to make something completely original. Also extraordinary mature subject matter used very well lyrically throughout the album. Whether you like Kanye or not this thing is thing is a masterpiece that won’t be forgotten.
and not like real angry or coming out being like fuck everyone but theres just the undercurrent of sarcasm and like he's just doing the middle finger to the industry
ProducShuns you obviously haven't been listening to kanye for too long lmao, this is just his old school flow and lyricism go listen to graduation and collage dropout they got the same sort of feel, there even better imo

El Padrino I think people forget how amazing he was on Late Registration. Only one of his albums where I can say "Kanye is an amazing rapper." His lyrics, flows, style, everything.
Agreed! As good as people think that album was, I still think it was underrated. I understand people's attachment to College Dropout, but Late Registration was near perfection.
@@EndOfSmallSanctuary97 he went OFF on Crack Music. My goodness! And, even though Bring Me Down is only one version, he knocked that out of the park too (final verse of Gone as well. I'm a huge fan of Late Registration)
This song gives me the same exact feeling of euphoria as it did when I first heard it a decade ago. The whole album in fact, classic for sure. Timeless music FTW!!!
Not really. I like his verse on its own but to me it seems to go against the whole theme of the song and what Kanye is saying so potently about racial inequality and how he thinks black people have been socially conditioned to act in a certain way. Raekwon follows up meaningful lines such as 'Inner century anthems based off inner city tantrums based off the way we were branded' with generic lines like 'I done copped Timbs lived in lenses, Armani Suits, fresh fruits, Bally boots and Benzes'. This comes across as ignorant and out of touch with the overall message of the song.

I banish the fake. Uuhm... Yes. Plus it's not really instant since it is a couple of years old.
Classic Kanye, not a classic rap song by any means any time soon. Sorry kids, that's not how it works.
this album is probably kanye's best
Late Registration is pretty underrated though. Probably 2nd place for me.
