- With the growing success of the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Playstation 4 we are seeing the rivalry between these fan bases is getting worse. The question I want to rant about today is, where the heck are all these haters coming from?!

Major games like Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda Breath of the Wild have helped the Nintendo Switch get a strong start in 2017 while the Xbox One has it's own games like Halo to push it, these are both successful compared to the PS4 in their own way.
This is a topic I have wanted to dig into for awhile and with all the crazy fanboy wars going on this seemed like a good time. Enjoy! :D

I blame the Internet. Back then, whenever some kid bragged about his Sega Genesis, we all went to his house to play Mortal Kombat with all the gore on.
Nowadays, you have kids and men-children who never, ever get contradicted or have access to someone with the other brand and you end up with pointless rage-induced discussion about sales and resolution. Personally, I've never met a console fanboy in real life. I guess talking about these things out loud with another person helps you realize just how ridiculous and vapid it all is.

Easy answer.. most people want to feel that they have the best. Also if you “hate” what you don’t have or can’t have, you feel better about what you’ve got. Most people have PS4 so naturally the other 2 will get the hate.
I’m lucky to have all 3 and there are good and bad for each.

Exactly this..it's psychological..people want to justify why they bought whatever system they bought without feeling like an idiot about their purchase. I also agree..they all have their pros/cons. But it's personal preference really. No sense in bashing others for their choice..they didn't choose for ME.

Itd be best if it were only powerful handhelds and pcs. Consoles are just dumb when we have pcs around that offer better quality overall and cheaper costs overall.
as primarily a PC gamer, i completely disagree with you on the cheaper costs overall stance. if i wanted to, i could buy a used ps4 for a little over 200 dollars and there is no way i could get that price-performance with a pc (factoring in gpu, cpu, ram, hard drive, mouse, keyboard, power supply, motherboard , tower, not even factoring in monitor or speakers assuming i just want to hook it to a tv via hdmi, even if all those parts are used the cost would still add up. Building a decent PC will cost you money, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I did it and have no regrets, but I completely understand the people who are more casual with their gaming and treat it as a minor hobby and don't want to invest much time/money into just playing a game.(i won't even get into bad pc ports, some I've bought on steam that are virtually unplayable , yet they still remain on steam)

brian collens Easy solution would be to buy a competent pc and just enjoy all the pc games on top of the emulators youd have availible to you for free.
Dont trust emulation, mostly they contain virus and malware, and why should i do that, I own all the system since 7th gen and have some of the 6th as well, and owning both mini snes and nes, and have megadrive and snes and nes as well, I have tons of steam games as well

Ummm, hate from extremist PlayStation fans is not a recent thing. They have been saying Microsoft will leave the console market since the Xbox 360 came out.

As a veteran of the Commodore64 v ZX Spectrum & the Amiga 500 v Atari ST fan wars way before any console wars started, I have to say by now I'm just getting fed up with the sheer dumbness of fanboys. I wish they'd just relax, enjoy the games, and see what healthy competition brings. Oh and Dreamcast forever!!! :D

I don't own a Switch so I can't really judge it. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild does look amazing and I really do want to play it.
As of the Xbox One, I can't say that I hate it but I do think it's a major letdown. When it comes to games consoles, the games are always the Number 1 priority and as far as Exclusives go, the Xbox One Exclusives in my opinion range from either lackluster to non-existent.

You clearly play no driving games cos Forza 7, Also, Cuphead, Ori 2, Ooblets, Last night, Artful Escape, Below - just some excellent looking exclusives for MS. In fact, i agree with totalbiscuit's E3 assessment, MS had the best show by a mile and showed the most interesting and diverse game lineup. Not sure where this narrative of xbox has no games comes from tbh
Not everybody likes every excluisve or racing games and to me racing isnt a console seller to me like all xbox ever had to me was halo and gears and maybe a select few other then that not much. Xbox doesn't have uncharted, disgaea, persona 5 and a ton of other amazing rpg's which I peronally love and xobx just isnt the console for the genera.

This is the best video I’ve seen on this topic. I was born in 1981. I cut my teeth on the NES. The SNES is my favorite console of all time. I’ve owned every Nintendo console and handheld except the N64. I don’t know why exactly, I just never got one. So Nintendo will always hold a special place in my heart. But having said that, I still owned other consoles. I had a Genesis and a Game Gear. I had every PlayStation including the PSP and Vita. I had the original XBox, which I modded with a chip and a 200gb hard drive. Since the first XBox came out it has been my primary console for multi-platform games. I’ve just always preferred the XBox controllers and UI. And I get so much hate for that. That doesn’t mean I think PlayStation is crap. I love the exclusives and that’s why I will always have a PlayStation. I’ll always have a Nintendo console because they create games that you can’t play anywhere else. In the end I think people forget why we play games. We play games for fun. And it seems like less people actually play games for fun now. We live in a time when people get so triggered with other people that have a different opinion. Play the games you want. Play on the console you prefer. And if you’re having fun, that’s all that matters. But don’t attack every person that doesn’t agree with you. It’s childish.
They hate the Xbox One because it has no "real exclusives" but can't stop playing and streaming the latest third party multiplats on the PS4.
Everyone has a high-end PC now that the X has arrived, yet continue to play multiplats on PS4.
I own a Wii U, but probably won't pick up a Switch until Metroid 4 arrives.
Pure jealousy? I finally (late to the party - gamer on a tight budget!) bought an Xbox One S. It wasn't my preferred console (wanted a PS4) but the deal was so good I couldn't resist. Besides most games I wanted to play are multi-platform. But this still doesn't change the fact that I will get both a PS4 and a Switch in the future for the exclusives on those platforms. I really don't care what i'm gaming on as long as I get to game. Each platform has their own benefits.

Well I more or less agree. Problem is i'm also a huge fan of the Uncharted games, Street Fighter and f.e Bloodborne and Until Dawn are very interesting as well. So i'm bound to pick up a PS4 sooner or later as well. If the price is right. Although I promised myself I wouldn't go as overboard on buying games as on the previous gen. In which I had an Xbox360 and PS3 and about 200+ games on both consoles. (and yeah...I also love my Wii and WiiU and am a PC gamer...so...you get the problem I suppose...). But one console and a switch would suffice.

Without insulting either competitor, my PS4/Vita combo is amazing, especially with PS Plus giving me 2-6 "free" games for both systems (and my PS3) every month, massive discounts on top of weekly and Flash sales, plus Remote Play wherever I have a good wifi signal, makes the fact that Sony has fumbled managing and marketing the Vita so badly so disappointing to me.
It's a trend to hate, the comment section of UA-cam is where toxic fanboys arise.
I've never met a fanboy of a console nor talked to one online. Almost everyone is open minded to the games.

I love all 3 main consoles and PC gaming. I just wish more people were open minded to each competitor. I enjoy playing PS4, Switch, and PC. I have great games on all of them and spend almost an equal amount of time on each of them. As for Xbox I personally don't like any of the exclusive games on it other then Gears of War so I've never owned one. However, that doesn't mean I hate the Xbox it's just that it doesn't have any games that grab my attention unfortunately. At the end of the day I'm a gamer not a console exclusive kinda person I go to the system that has the games I want to play. Anyways that's just how I am hopefully people will come to realize that it doesn't matter what people decide to play on as long as we are all having fun. Btw, Super Mario Odyssey is so much fun I can't put it down (well except to charge up my joy cons since i only have one set of controllers right now >_>). Great video!

Because a lot of the hate is coming from Sony fans, because it looks like they're about to get some real competition.
People who are hating on the Switch are just butthurt and are jealous of its success. Sure. The Switch might not outsell the PS4, but still. The launch was just so much better than the PS4, and it’s currently selling much faster than the PS4.
I work for GameStop and deal with this all the time. My responses are always, I just prefer Sony and Nintendo consoles. They're what I grew up playing

I think people hate on everything Microsoft because of what they did at E3 2013, I think people hate on the switch because they priced the switch at Xbone & PS4 prices even tho its noticeably inferior

Yea but those were justifiable prices for those consoles at the time the switch just isn't, low processing power, undocked 720p resolution, joy con lag, low battery...etc. I love what nintendo is doing with the switch but i wouldn't pay $300 for it honestly

I own a PS4 primarily because the XBox One was out of stock on the day I went to buy a new console. I also own a Switch. As someone who has been playing games since the 1980s, I’ve learned that being too loyal to gaming corporations is dumb. However, I think the brand loyalty is a relic of childhood because very few kids are from families that are wealthy enough to own more than one gaming console at a time, so convincing themselves that they got the “right” console becomes very important. Unfortunately that mode of thinking doesn’t always go away when that kid becomes an adult.
When I was a kid I had an SNES and my friend had a Genesis we collected games and system swapped all the time until we got older to afford more.

One major point that I think is important: a few years ago you weren't able to make money (or lets say not able to make ridiculous amounts in comparison with todays "gaming journalism") with clickbaiting titles and opinions. With a platform like youtube you have the possibility to spread your own opinions without any editing or supervising from others. That is not that big of a problem until you gain viewers that take your words and make it their own opinion. There is a responsibility in being some form of journalist or reviewer that not so many have in mind when posting stuff.... if the other guys at your school play on their ps4s and their youtube idols tell them it's the best console and the others are crap they start believing that as thats what they hear from their trusted reviewers. So you dont only have to defend yourself playing another console but also have to tell them their idols are wrong. something not that easy when you are like 11-20 years old... and only a few of them will grow up and accept others opinions.

Growing up in the 80s/90s myself..we really didn't bash each other over the Sega/SNES like a lot of people seem to think. We actually wanted to trade each other systems for the weekend to try out the games on the different consoles since we could only afford one. Trust me, the SNES owners wanted to try out Sonic just as bad as the Sega owners wanted to play Super Mario World..we would take what we could get, since games were too expensive to buy both. No one called the other person a loser for their choices.....then again, there was no internet to hide behind, so people didn't want to get punched in the face lol.
Being a fanboy is actually healthy for the consumer . For example back in 2013 when XBOX ONE came out saying that it will be an always online console , Most of the Gamer's were really pissed off. But unfortunately the XBOX fan boys went out of their way to defend the stupid decision of always ONLINE.
The XBOX fan boys could not see that this decision from microsoft was going to hurt them . So the people from playstation had to make fun of them and Expose their stupidity . "Always online" - is bad for Gamers disregard whichever console you are on . But some fan boys are so blinded it is mesmerizing and annoying .
Speaking as someone who has a ps4,xbox one, and a switch. Honestly i bought each one for a different reason. Honestly to me i say go where the games are and enjoy games for what they are and stop fighting. Competition is good but playing dirty is bad

Sadly, it's just the way society is. Many people gain pleasure by shitting on what someone else likes. It's become commonplace, and that is a shame. This happened back in the 80's as well, it just wasn't as well known. There wasn't social media back then, so the haters could only be a hater within their circle.
I go where the games are. I built a pc, I own a 360, ps3, ps4, 2ds and wii u. I'll likely get a switch for christmas. Great games are everywhere and if you focus on only 1 console/company (which you shouldn't because they don't really care about you, only your money) you actually block out more than 70% of the total market.
Why can't these folks realize competition is healthy/good? We're the ones that win.

Let's be 100% honest, xboxone is the worst console out right now. Not only have all my friends had minor to serious problem with theirs, ex disc reader stopping working permanently, but Microsoft made such a big deal about sharing games and many other things before release, who the fuck woukd want to give those greedy bastards more money.

People attach parts of their personality to inanimate objects. Bashing said object makes them think you have a problem with a part of their personality. People are predictable in their behaviour.
It's a defense mechanism for money spent. Play what you want, enjoy what you want, if you spent money on something and really hate it, then hate it, but dont personally attack people for liking something you didn't buy or didn't enjoy

There has always been console/computer wars. I remember the zx Spectrum vs Commodore 64 vs Amstard cpc and the SNES vs Megadrive for examples, it's a bit of fanboy rivalry nothing more. There is fan rivalry in music, sports etc. sometimes friendly sometimes not so, just the way it is.
Awesome video, DreamcasGuy! I love Microsoft, Sony, & Nintendo equally. I'm noticing this stuff myself, but I don't think it's just hate. I believe that it's the mistakes that any of the three do which causes fanboys to say stuff like: "apocalyps3" "Xbox has no exclusives" or "Nintendo is kiddie". But it's also good to call out ANY of the three that do things wrong. Sony should be focusing on crossplay instead of ignoring it, Nintendo needs a better online service and more 3rd party support, and Microsoft needs to make actual exclusives for the Xbox One X and more first party games. I don't hate any of them, but I want all 3 to succeed.
To be honest there alot of thing people said that make me cringe like: "PC is master race" or "your not a real gamer". But those stuff should not ruin your enjoyment.
you have to keep in mind that most people hating on consoles are mostly teenagers or young adults. some people that age like to hate on things so they feel superior. They haven't yet had a heavy dose of reality and realized that there's way more important things to worry about.

My response is who gives a shit. These companies make these things so people can enjoy there video games. So why hate, just do what the machines are meant to do.
I'm a platform agnostic, I go where the games are, that said... There's nothing on Xbox one for me, and I really don't see any area the system excels in enough to consider purchasing it. All of it's competition does anything it does but better, and even has games to use the system features on.
I will state as a caveat to this, Xbone does have a great controller. But that's no good to me if there's no games I want to control with it.
@DreamcastGuy I feel for people like us who's favorite console is the Dreamcast. We are more console agnostic and enjoy all consoles (and PC gaming) for what they are.

The fan boy wars have been going on for years. Started when the original x box came out and rivalled the ps2 it's not that new
I'm a Nintendo and Sony fan. I dropped off Xbox after the 360, but I've always loved Nintendo and Sony those two are what made me a gamer. To me they have some of the best games. Xbox doesn't have much in the terms of great games for me. But Sony and Nintendo always give me franchies I love. That's why I stay with them. I've been having more fun than ever with 2017 and the great games they are coming out with.

Probably because not all people can own all three systems. People hate on things they do not own especially when they see desirable things on it. As for me, I believe all three systems have their own merit.

I don't own an Xbox, but it's just because I personally don't like the controller, so from that aspect alone I've stayed away from it. Still, I don't hate on anyone that owns one. I own a bunch of consoles and handhelds and show them all love equally.
I play my PS3, PS4, Wii U, & Switch pretty much equally. Yes, I still play the Wii U because it's home to a bunch of great games.
The Wii U was hated on but I loved it, except Star Fox Zero was ruined by the Gamepad controls and no Pro Controller option. Everything else is great though. Something positive I can say about Nintendo is the games they release are polished and top quality nearly everytime. Other companies cannot seem to mimic the dedication they put in.
I still enjoy the hell out of my Playstation 4 as well, but to be honest I only bought the PS3 after I saw the FFVII Tech Demo in hopes we would get a full remake, then I bought a PS4 hoping for the same thing and it's happening, and now I might need to get a PS5 to play it.
The chance of one game releasing is what's kept me attached to Sony for the most part all these years.
But anyway, that's my nonsense rant going off topic and all.

I think everything is about personal preference. People buy their console of choice because it best meets their needs and desires of what they want out of their gaming experience. Some people a like minded with what I like to do while others aren't. There is no right or wrong on the issue. I personally think it's immature to try and put down another's personal preference when it comes to gaming. For some reason, some people think their way of gaming should be the best way of doing it and that isn't the case. It has and will always be about personal preference.
Normies pouring into what used to be niche entertainment always results in the minimum common denominator.
I think the internet is the best thing to ever happen to gaming (online play, exposure, videos) and the worst (EVERYBODY is a critic, negative reviews kill games, etc). If I had to choose one, I'd actually choose a time when we just had a few magazines and video games were more niche. It's such a more hostile environment now
Rich Knight I miss the days of getting my gaming news from magazines. Real journalism back then. No rooms or biased bs back then. They would visit studios, get hands on play and write an article about games and consoles that were truthful without stupid rumors.

I am ps4 now and have been for about a year now and am enjoying it but what irritates me is I was Xbox for years and over the years I built up and good set of achievements I had 40,000 + I would spend days getting achievements and now I'm ps4 one of my mates say achievement points mean nothing it's all about platinum's, it's really insulating especially when I put so much effort into getting them, what's your thoughts???
As a gamer since Atari 2600, Odessy, and the first Nintendo,, I never understood the big deal over consoles. The games make the consoles, the consoles don't make games. I've been fortunate enough to own a PS4 and X1S. True my PS4 gets a lot more spin time, but I don't knock my X1S for having less to offer to my liking. I still love my 360 and PS3 all in the same, because they both have great games that we all know and love. I say that to say this... what does it matter as long as we're both happy playing games? If you spent as much time playing as you did feuding over the console you chose to invest in... maybe just maybe the fun would come back to the Gaming community as a whole. Tired of hearing how many flops the XBOX X flips and how many more exclusives the PS4 has. It's just not a necessary discussion. You have to have better things to do in life. So why don't you just live?
I've never actually been a part of the whole 'fanboy of whatever console'. I simply look at if the consoles has games that 'I' want. And what I may be interested in may or may not be the same as others. Currently, while I DO own Breath of the Wild, I don't own a Switch. NOT because I don't want one, but because of my limited budget not being able to justify an entire console for a few games. I'm not interested in Mario since the last one I enjoyed was Mario Galaxy and Sunshine for the Gamecube. I want a few more games that I want to play before I purchase it.
When I look at the Xbox One, I own the original model. I'm disappointing ONLY because I like exclusives. Their games, however, are now on the PC. I felt betrayed because I purchased my Xbox for Quantum Break ( Not the greatest game, but I loved the hell out of it), and it was announced a week after I purchased it that it would not be a part of the play anywhere thing. I have a good PC, if I'd have known it was coming out for PC, I'd have gotten in on PC. Is the Xbox One ( S, regular or upcoming X) a good system? Yes. I'd have just skipped it if it was not for a few other games ( Sunset Overdrive for instance... LOVE it.). I want games for them to be exclusive again, give me a reason to shout out like I STILL do for my 360, "I AM A PROUD OWNER OF XBOX!"
PS4 currently gets the most use from me other than PC... but that's only because it has more games exclusive to it. While I've played a lot of games this year because of my stream; Yakuza 0, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Persona 5 have been my favorites ( Though Breath of the Wild and Gears 4 I loved as well.).
To me... gaming is gaming. This 'brand loyalty' has never made sense. I still own every console I've ever gotten from the Atari 2600 to the Colecovison to the Sega Dreamcast ( One of my top choices) to the PS2 to Xbox Original with the Duke, NES, Gameboy... you name it. I want competition among the brands. But this hate people have just seems counter productive. If you like Nintendo, like it because of the games... NOT because it's Nintendo only. Like Xbox because it's giving you a gaming experience, not because of YOU ALL SUCK BECAUSE YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ME! Like Sony because they gave you a great game, not because HORIZON BETTER THAN ZELDA ( They're both great games. If you like one over the other great. I just loved playing them.).
Much like Dreamcastguy here, I grew up with comic books and games being hush hush. Now, both are everywhere. Why not just enjoy the games and stop hating on a product because it doesn't have your particular brand on it. Just my two cents.

Xbox One I can kinda understand why. The Xbox One doesn’t have a lot of exclusives. Most of these “exclusive” you can also play on PC. When a console doesn’t have a lot of worthy exclusives, people will just go to PC or go with the console that has the exclusives.
As for Nintendo Switch, I’m not so sure. I guess it’s just people that aren’t a fan of Nintendo at all. Even though I’m not a fan of Nintendo, but I have to give them credit for the Switch. At least they know a console needs exclusives and they have been releasing exclusives that gamers liked.
People get caught up in brand placements. Either you love a game or don't like it at all. Or it could be jealousy. "I'm'm going to hate on you cause you have X system and what you better then me." That is all their is to it.
I've never understood the whole fanboy debate/picking one side only. Last gen I had a PS3, 360 & a DS because I was able to afford them all at the time. I only have a PS4 & 3DS now, but I'd buy a Switch in a heartbeat if I had the $$$
I think ppl still remember the whole spying thing when xbox 1 came out.
Not to mention the big "screw you" by not calling it the 720 or other (ie. *Real Steel*).
And while these fanboys are at war with each other, I'll be on another room playing all their games.
Fanboys have always been around, they just have more access to spread their toxicity now. So I don't think gaming as a whole has really changed.
I'm an Atari 2600?! No wonder I enjoy playing with my joystick. ;)
Why target fanboys? They help make games and hardware better by setting a tone and level of competition between companies. If gamers are constantly scrutinizing everything then corps tend to pay attention to those fine details and make the product better.

I think people are more like sociopaths than never before. Which is ironic. We live in an era where communication is key and in the history of men this is the worse era of them all when it comes to communication. And that says a lot.
