I like when the most expensive meal has really good and normal ingredients not just put caviar and gold on it
Actually melons in Japan are more expensive than gold
Don't forget truffles
From what I've able to count, I calculated through the entire show that there are approximately :
Caviar : 4 - 5 Times
Truffles : 9 - 10 Times
Gold Leaves : 3 - 4 Times
This is the rough estimate from what I've counted per episode
Absolutely yes. Those caviar and other experience materials are expensive just because they are so scare unless no big speciality with it's taste.
Gold, yes i agree. But you clearly haven't had caviar, truffles, fois gras etc etc
“Who said it better?” “Andrew” cracks me up every time 😂

And Andrew be like : “ooooooooo” 🤭
Most of the expensive stuff in this series are just expensive ingredients made with a fancy machine with gold on top. This cake actually looked delicious just from being good, no gold necessary.
The melon is expensive
Don't forget the caviar and truffle!
The melon they used is a really expensive type one.
The Mickey Squad The melon that was used is about 195$ so that’s why it’s expensive. It’s “just expensive ingredients made with a fancy machine”
The Mickey Squad to be honest though, it seemed a little over priced
Still impressed by Rie's sick burn. "This is the difference between a professional pastry chef....... and you."

@@notareallin620 well the Portuguese were the very 1st European country to sail to japan and allowed to trade in japan in 1543, during a time when japan was closed off to the world so its normal that they were the first to introduce western ideals/goods to japan
@@notareallin620 not only japan, some south east asia country adapt Portuguese & Netherland cuizine with their own style.
Japanese just always make their food in a whole different level. seriously. the way their chefs treated food literally can be compared to those in anime 😂😂😂 and I guess tht's why what they create is literally just perfection
The Extra Super Melon Cake reminded me of Yakitate Japan episode 13 lol
And expensive too
Well...anime is japanese to begin with lol
American food is better on every level in terms of taste, price and variety
Max Brown you wish hahaha, Japanese food are so good
American food worth it=truffle,caviar,golden leave,watafak
Japanese food worth it=normal ingredient but extremely good condition and quality, super good food preparation. Now that make sense why we would question is it worth it or not.
haikal ali ok?
Yeah because American cuisine culture equates worth to rare material things rather than quality. It’s based off of British culture and the greedy mindset most western cultures hold towards a lot of things. Most European cultures are exceptions (like Portugal, France, etc.) But most prominent British influenced countries have the greed mindset.
The gold and truffle and all of that crap is just for the experience rather than eating.
Truffle and caviar are actually from Europe if I'm not wrong
@@pumpkinlatte6049 well yes, and most white-american are from British which is on europe too

Weeb LOL HAHAHA
Theóbroma said it right - most of the cakes from the US are sooooooo overly sweet. I've learned to appreciate a much more subtle cake that has a balance of texture and taste to it rather than just being overloaded with sugar. 🍰
obakester he's right.... In Europe too, we think that US cake are too much sweet.
I didn't realize how sweet Us cakes were until I lived in Asia for 5 years and then ate a cake when I returned to the US. I nearly gagged. Actually EVERYTHING in the US is overly sweet. It shocked me how little I could stand to eat when I returned. Reverse culture shock is REAL man. lol
obakester I love not being American
you guys dump sugar and banana ketchup into your spaghetti, and don't even get me started on Jack and Jills
I'm American. and I agreed with him. Whenever I eat store-bought cake, I have to scrape off pretty much all of the frosting in order to eat it. Otherwise, it's so overpoweringly sweet it makes me feel a little sick.
"This is the difference between a professional pastry chef, and you"

I agree with him at 4:43, I've made a couple of American cakes and they were too sweet, disturbingly sweet. So, I've learned the lesson and always put less sugar than it says in the recipe.
Moon Gloss nobody asked you
Uuuu, you're so tough behind the keyboard. lol
True, I hate American cakes or any American sweets in general. Everything is disgustingly sweet. I guess it's from the use of corn syrup in many American desserts. I always prefer Japanese and French pastries!
Latesthunder butt hurt american
Moon Gloss totally agree, I really dislike American dessert in general, they always have way too much sugar... they really differ from the tasty European and Asian desserts I had

“TODAY ON WORTH IT....”
Andrew casually walking around carrying a random cat 😂
"almost 100% of American choc cakes are *gags* sickeningly sweet."
IMAO true hahaha. But I guess they will think Asian desserts are too plain
Eva Chang a lot of Asian people don't like sweet things, especially the older generation. East Asians are also prone to type two diabetes so it makes sense that they have less sweet cakes. Also, I've noticed that they like to use whipped cream instead of buttercream for icing.
Crystal KayNine you should try Japanese deserts, they are so good that they got me hooked too😂😂😂
I swear not in Japan. here patisserie is inspired by french cuisine but twisted in japanese way every summer when i go back to japan i take 3kg just by eating cake every freaking day
I honestly like japanese desserts especially their cake and icecream, they have different flavors you probably wouldn't expect in america, and its less sweet containing less sugar and still tasting quite good
I don't think they taste too plain. I think they taste awful
I've had quite a few traditional Asian desserts, like yakkwa, strawberry daifuku, moon and sun cakes, and so on. All of these tasted just fine, since the flavors were in harmony with each other and the sweetness was strong but balanced.
The problem with American cakes is pretty obvious: you take sweet, luscious icing rich in butterfat and soak your well-sweetened cake in it, and the end result is a lack of balance, too much of a good thing. When Asians make their cakes, they take the same philosophy and undercut the sugar all over. The end result is a lot of awful-tasting icing on top of flavorless cake, instead of just toning down the icing level. American cake is definitely tastier, it's just way too much. Asians don't know how to achieve flavor harmony when they make Western confections.
Now I bring you stevens search history:
Really cheap cake in Japan
medium price cake Japan
Really expensive cake Japan

The only reason that melon cake was so expensive, is because the melon he used is probably really expensive. You can easily buy $100+ melons in Japan.
Epic14Games well I'm glad I'm allergic to melons cause I'd never spend that much haha
yeah, especially if you only take those that don't share a vine. like... why?
Melons are super popular in Japan. Almost all sweets in japan will have a melon variant.
wasanbon sugar is pretty expensive. it takes 20 days to make and costs about 20 dollars for 350g.
Yes. Fruit in Japan is very expensive. And, to be honest, Japanese cakes look very nice but they’re not that delicious as they say in the video. Not worthy for the price. Japanese people are much better in many other things. Not in cakes.
I found it hilarious how Steven was surprised that the Japanese person knew the Japanese fact
Mmm, I've had a Japanese cake before. They are the friggin lightest thing ever and the frosting is almost like luxury whipped cream. loVE iT

Chicago 21 but have you seen buzzfeed unsolved?
I'm an American and love a lot of foods we make. That said, i think other countries do desserts WAY better than us in terms of quality and less sugar. One bite of an America dessert and it's too sweet, but other countries know that sugar is an indulgence not the point of the dessert.

Same here😂
All I've learned from all of these shows is that the Japanese cuisine is cheaper, better presented and more unique.
I have no idea how Japanese restaurants are so cheap to be honest. Japanese supermarkets are not cheap at all, especially for fruits, and somewhat for vegetables too. Sometimes you can eat at a restaurant and the price of the dish seems like it would be less than what it would cost to make at home.
Buy from wholesale?
Suppliers often give discounts to restaurants for buying directly from the suppliers and for buying in bulk.
And MUCH higher quality
