My cousin is getting older, but he still has the same 1967 Timberjack cable skidder his dad bought brand new. It still runs good, but he just uses it for firewood these days.
Awesome video Wade. Great information on the business side of things and I guess a good look at how blessed your family is to have made it through all the times between then and now and be here to tell about it
Logger Wade I never thanked you for this bud. That vidja was 2 days after disaster struck. Thanks for being my moral support tater. I'm bout ready to get back out there and do Jeff proud
Hey wade, Like that you gave us WV folks a mention !! Down here in southern WV the logging can be rough and steep . Some places it's straight up and down. But I've always said that eastern Kentucky is closest in terrain and lifestyle to southern WV , with our mountains and coal mines. And brother believe me I grew up on a Homelite chainsaw for years, it's what we all had for years. Keep up the good work brother
Awesome vidja! It contained a lot of information that I was curious about in y'alls company. And to top it all off you made me almost hurt laughing so hard when you slung your chain. Ive been there and done that plenty of times on our pull through delimber. Thanks again for the awesome vidjas!
I got a old home light in mint condition for free a few years ago for free even came with owner manual .At that time they used 30 weight oil for mix lol ! I leave it on the front of my ATV for fall overs ! No buddy will steal it if you leave the atv when your hunting ! Great saw!!
your exactly right about hand cutting and tradin cable skidder for grapple. cutter will be workin harder and gets unsafe even though your not thinking that at the time. not making best decision when your trying to keep up with Skidder.
Tater I grew up on the homelite saws and loved them, did some milling on a manual push carriage with a 36 inch saw, that's why I switched to mechanics lol
west coast logging alex esgate buddy after what you thought me I'm not dicking with them gonna get shovel pads period... still think about that trip about once a day
it was a lot of fun and hope to get out that way in august .but as for the pads i hear ya a set of doubles and you will go places a hidrive 5 or dozer only wish they could plus it will make for some great vidja's 10.4
Why don't you weld that saw chain onto the bar and use it like a pull saw? It takes a long time but makes a neat cut. From listening to you I figure you would have a lot of experience pulling something pretty fast.
Had no idea who you were just a few days ago when I stumbled across your channel. Thought you were just an employee at a sawmill. Then a little research proved you are actually a Tv star. Holy sh>t! Shows ya how much I watch Tv.
I got into cleaning, here in London,,as my education wasn't good enough and daddy cleaned hotels. So I was elevated to the mop bucket and scrubbing brush, the airs and graces went quite fast,as did my subtly .I quickly ascertained who wanted to work with me and those who weren't sure, did you find the same problem,we have high standards and complete to a high standard everyday, the big downside is we cost a lot more than the usual mop pushers,so our clients tend to have a bit of money?
Have you thought about just welding grouser extensions onto your 3 bar tracks? If they don't need replacement cause they're wore out that is. Also, a small hydraulic winch and a hang a block from the grapple on the din din and you could get everthing a cable skidder can.
Dad and granddad had a 440A a old Chevy 6500 with a sideloader on it and 3 C-72 homalight chainsaws and a old mill that was powered by a 2 stroke Detroit that you could hear screaming for 10 miles
our last job this winter they wanted it to be horse logged and winter cut so it would be low impact. well the land owner pushed back and said he was going to get us to cable log it. it went back and forth for a bit till the ministry gave in and let us log it. I don't even know how they would have horse logged it it was steep ground
Skidder Kev thing for them to do would be log it themselves and you all come in and bid on the logs... They change there wacky bull mess right quick or find some crack head with a blown transmission and court days and all that mess to come in and log it
it really comes down to one pain in the rear guy that works for the ministry. he has been a thorn in our side for years. he has held up a permit for 2 years on us.
With a grapple that can rotate >360 degrees, how do they get hydraulic lines down to the grapple cylinders and grapple saw? You could have one hose in the center with a swivel fitting, but don't you need more than one hose that can rotate with the grapple? Thanks!
Imolavirus its called a rotator manifold...large cylinder with ports at different heights in it and seals that the fluid goes through and can rotate around
just because skidders are old doesnt mean there junk, not everybody cuts huge gravy state jobs. theres alot of 2 man crews that cut 5 or 10 acre patches that wouldnt be close to profitable using that expensive new equipment, its great it works for you but it dont work for alot of people
Good splanation of how it works and how the company came about buddy, I love hearing those stories and the talks about how in black and white you will be better off this way or that, and as a timber cutter at heart which all my family was the truth is there's less need for them everyday..............now I'm not saying what a faller can do isn't profitable nor productive but with the safety aspect, the strides with tethered cutting, and all that it pays to have a machine do it verse a man puttin his self in danger.........bottom line like you said a man's gonna get killed trying to keep up with what machines can do. just like misery whips and axes, the chainsaw retired them and equipment will pretty well retire saws.........not 100% cuz There be old growth here and there but it's gonna happen one day which you, Stevey, and myself will still be alive to see it when it does happen
Noticed that you have a lot of what appears to be poison ivy on the trees. How do you keep from getting covered in it when running a saw versus mechanical cutting?
You could literally put a GoPro on the ground to watch grass grow and start narrating the progress and make it interesting and hilarious. No wonder the history channel had you on Ax Men.....Broadcast tv needs 100 more like you and they might get an audience back again. Thanks for the video
Tryin not to bust my chain of thought Wade. LOL Sounds like Peewee was a touch sicker then he was lettin on, he always pops up in ya vidjas so hope he is on the road to wellness. Hey between the "Ash Holes" and the busted chain of thought with a couple of links missing you got a whole new clothing range right there driver.😎Thanks champ have a good one.
I have been felling trees since I was 14 I'm 46 now and I have to say the husky saws are more reliable don't know about power but hell yea wade I climbed nothing but desert trees like Palms, Dates, eucalyptus, ash, bottles trees hell everything grows here in Apache Junction Arizona.
I know itd be hard now. But since yal did so much hand cutting all them years. Itd be a good story to tell about yals CHAINSAW history timeline sorta thing. !!! Make a good vija
I definitely agree Wade. You have to work smarter not harder. You gotta be more efficient than the next logging company to stay ahead of the bunch and get bigger profits and bigger contracts. Smart logging is where it's at. Good reliable equipment and experienced workers.
having the fixed head makes it alot more steady cutting limbs and topping.just cant cut like superfell(satco630 or fl85 warattah)but way better for what your are doing logger wade
I love a homelite saw my grandpa was the same way I've got a super xl with a 16 inch bar I got from an auction a few weeks back I got a vidja on it actually it's a powerful little saw Wade!
HillJack I was a-waitin' fee ya bud. Man tater talking about steep ground. That shit in Morgan Monroe is scary as hell at times (see: clock ran out on bat season.) that's literally across the highway from me
hey bud recentiy statred watch your site. grew up logging 4th gen. in southeastern ky. all we ever used was cable skidders 518s and then 528s and in 1999 bought 517 swing boon to set out with and 2000 the last model 525a dual arch with the after cooled 3304 engine and it was different than daylight and dark compaired to cable logging.then in 2001 bought 445exl/2800quadco and everybody got lazy and fat but it worked 100 times better you are right
Poor Stevie.. He gets blamed for everything... Pretty interesting how logging differs across the country. You must top for size, you cant measure... Pretty interesting, thanks....
Hey nice vidja Tater, an how your company came to be. Tell Junkie, that on those Massey=Ferguson skidders, most of the time MF stood for "Mal Function", if U were a regular church goer. And if U weren't, MF stood fer M----- F er
I like the old logging stories.
My uncle was an Engineer on the 440A development at the Dubuque Works in Dubuque Iowa.

good hearing how yal got started.I enjoyed hearing it.
That was interesting talking about the different types of logging you've done and how you all got going.
your exactly right about hand cutting and tradin cable skidder for grapple. cutter will be workin harder and gets unsafe even though your not thinking that at the time. not making best decision when your trying to keep up with Skidder.
Jordan Bell it's human nature... really raises the stakes

I have seen the winch trick. It works well in certain situations.
boardbysled boys I've thought about that more times than you'd think
Dad and granddad had a 440A a old Chevy 6500 with a sideloader on it and 3 C-72 homalight chainsaws and a old mill that was powered by a 2 stroke Detroit that you could hear screaming for 10 miles
Chris Farmer hahaha!!! Now that's a line up

johnny popper that's what I say
johnny popper hey buddy didn't mean any offense.. we still use 640GIIIs heard a lot of good about the Ds.. I'm sorry though a 440 is a tinker toy...
thats true a 440 is a toy compared to a 640 lol but people still use them if it fits there situation is all i meant by it
johnny popper it is. This being a cat vs Deere thing.
