- BRANDS TESTED:18V Milwaukee Brushless, 20V DeWalt Brushless, 18V Makita (both brushless DC motor and brushed), 18V Ryobi Brushless, 18V Heimerdinger (brushed), 18V Hart , and 18V Bauer. All saws tested using 4 amp hour battery, except the Bauer which was tested using a 3 amp hour battery. Saws tested for cutting speed through metal pipe, ½ by 3 inch mild steel, and a nail embedded 4x4. I always purchase all products and supplies. These videos aren’t cheap to produce. The tools, batteries, chargers and blades cost well over $2000. I really appreciate it!

I’ve been a professional musician for 50 years and I want to thank you for mentioning the music and the musicians that you featured on your excellent videos. Kudos to you brother! By the way the mix of the music compared to your voice is very good. You can hear the music but it doesn’t interfere with your talking.

Hey Todd, you are amazing man. Your tests are unbiased and have a lot more scientific merit to them than just about all the other channels on UA-cam that claim to review equipment. I have used a significant number of your videos to help me choose the right tools to buy. Keep up the good work mate. From Australia.
Thanks, will do!
Who else is cheers for their favorite brand when they win and try to irrationally justify their superiority when they get 2nd or 3rd place in one of the tests??
I already have batteries for it, so...
As a Bauer owner I'm well aware I don't have the best. I just want to see how it performs against the big brands
Ryobi gang!
Hahah as a Milwaukee owner who changed from dewalt a few years ago this one hurt a little.
A Milwaukee owner too, I see.
I'm fine with my tool brand of choice. I'd rather consistently come in second, and occasionally first, instead of each tool being wildly different in performance.
I've been following this channel for over 3 years now. For those of you just joining in, it IS true what they say: "not all heroes wear capes."

I love the way you stand off to the side of the tools you want to show off and at an angle while you talk to the audience in the beginning and the end it’s really rad 👌
Thanks!
That Dewalt saw you tested here is the "FlexVolt Advantage" version, so if you use a FlexVolt battery with it instead of just the plain 20V, it's going to operate at 60V and theoretically be even more powerful. Would love if you tested that too! Thanks Todd!
Thanks for the suggestion.
It won't operate quite at 60v, it will be more powerful of course, but not 60v. "Advantage", not actual flexvolt. Would be fun to see dewalt 20v vs fv Advantage vs power detect vs flex volt. Good Ole yellow v yellow show down 🤣
I guess while we’re at it, let’s use the Milwaukee Super Sawzall too..?
@@Jonseywonseyfr actually the new Milwaukee curs faster than the super saw
@Nickolas Bither right? And put a high output battery on it too. I have both saws and I can push harder on the milwaukee than the dewalt so the milwaukee does have more power and cuts quicker.
One thing that I think would be really neat is to do an episode that takes a look at all the previously-completed power tool comparisons, and then to a 'brand' test.
That way if you have to commit to a battery system, you can base that decision on many tools vs a single tool result.
I would love to see this.
ROFL, that'll teach me not to read the comments before posting!
That's why I decided to go with Ryobi after having just a cordless drill for many years (two different brands). I decided I was going to go all in on cordless (had previously been a corded fan) and wanted the system that build reasonably good home gamer tools and had a very wide variety with the same battery, from tire inflators to work lights to recip saws. Also I like that Ryobi hasn't changed their battery mount for many years even as they move to newer battery technology - a 20 year old Ryobi tool that shipped with a NiMH battery will take a new LiIon battery just fine.
@@John_Ridley Same here. I've got a wall full of Ryobi tools - as this test (and others) have shown that their tools are usually pretty decent, but less than half the price of Dewalt, Milwaukee, or Makita. That means I can have double the number of tools at the same price, which is more important (to me - a DIYer) than making the cuts faster.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I dont know why but my absolute favorite part of these videos is when he reads a claim and follows it with "we're gonna test that". It's like his equivalent of challenge accepted lol

Wow, thanks for sharing!
I really like how none of your videos end in a drawn out boring monologue of what you personally thought about each brand. And it’s a brief “here’s the facts, let me know what you think”. As a viewer and subscriber I can’t think of anything you could do better. I also like how you never spend a bunch of time bashing one brand or product. Cause you’ve definitely tested some pretty bad products. And you just say “this one didn’t do very well, moving on”

I agree. 16 minutes, and all facts, no boring filler. Even talking at a good pace to get all the info in as quick as possible. I wish more youtubers did this.
The Ryobis like a race car lightweight and guaranteed to blow up in the near future. Makita needs to get their act together and make larger batteries. Nobody wants to double and quadruple up batteries.

Thanks for the nice comment!
@@ProjectFarm why didn't you also test the Milwaukee super Sawzall?
I'd love to see a multiple-tool shootout. You know, in case you're going to be purchasing one of those saw / drill / impact combo sets. My cordless tools are all from the same brand, not necessarily because I think it's the best, but once you're invested in a particular battery ecosystem, it doesn't make sense to have to buy multiple chargers and batteries that aren't compatible with one another. So I have a collection of "medium" tools.
Great suggestion! Thank you.
Your comment is the very reason I have stuck with soley makita tools in the 18v line up. I like that my batteries fit any of the tools made since 2007 and that the heavier tools just take 2 of the same batteries I already own. I use milwaukee 12v stuff and have been tempted by some of their 18v offerings, but I cannot stand having to buy another set of batteries. For reference, I have 80,batteries in makita and over 60 tools, 50 batteries and 44 tools in milwaukee m12
@Cole Craypo - Because for a hobbyist, Milwaukee isn't cost effective. For the number of Ryobi tools I have, I'd have spent double that money, if not more, buying Milwaukee - and none of my Ryobi's have broken down as of yet. That includes the very first 18 volt drill and saw that I bought, long before Lithium-Ion batteries were the standard for any of them. (I still have _one_ rechargeable NiMH battery left)
There are adapters you can buy to interchange battery and tool brands. I have a lot of Milwaukee and was looking at this option for a Dewalt tool.
@Cole Craypo the only milwaukee tool that'd actually be worth paying twice as much as I'd pay for a dewalt would be the impacts. Otherwise it just ain't worth double the price for negligible differences in performance.
You get funding from watchers and keep the tools, but man, you DESERVE to keep and profit for the knowledge you share! We ALL come out ahead! Thanks P.F.!
I would love to see a comparison of the compact/ sub compact recip saws. They’re very handy for my jobs in tight spaces, would love to see you include a vibration comparison because that seems to be the downfall of the smaller saws
Thanks for the suggestions!

"Humdinger" 😂 I have old Ryobi 18v that I have beat the snot out for years. It has survived being left in the rain, being half submerged in water while running, and dropped MANY times. I have a great respect for my cheap little Ryobi. That thing is a tank.
Good one, hang on to it. I am afraid that a new one would not be as good, everything is built to a price, not performance, nowadays.
Thanks for sharing.
Is it the old style blue and orange one before they rebranded it in neon green? Yes, I've beaten the snot out of mine too. Unfortunately last fall the clips holding the battery in broke off. I really don't want to give it up because that thing is a trooper. I've been thinking of a way to rig holding the battery in. Perhaps a something like reusable zip ties.

@@einlandersvideos6213 think my deep cut fuel bandsaw would be tool then
I think just stealing the car is best and prob less hassle
@@einlandersvideos6213 probably fastest, even the quietest saw would be fairly noisy and could easily attract attention.
If you ever get a chance, would be great to see a comparison between varying models of tools. I don't know about other brands but I hate that dewalt sells inferior tools depending on which store you shop. What I mean is that it would be great to know which tool or store to avoid.
Thanks for the video idea.
cant stop chuckling when ya say humdinger
id be interested in seeing a manufacturer round up video summarizing the average finish position for a brand across their product line. a which brand is the best brand showdown lol
Good idea!
This channel deserves all the SUBS! I can't reccomend it enough to anyone I know looking for tools!
Thanks!

Awesome vid as always mate.
I don't think i've seen a single video from you that would be cheap to produce. Thank you for all the time and $ you pour into these videos!
You are welcome!
There is a lot of editing going into this video, well done😁👍
Thank you so much 😁
I do some editing, this would take about 6+ hours at least😅
Thanks for the sawzall evaluation. You don't have to convince me, I am a Dewalt fan.
I really liked seeing the comparison between a bunch of cordless tools and one corded one. I would be interested in seeing a similar comparison done with angle grinders.
Thanks for the video idea.
