Wow , ask her for a date dude !
Just be aware of the limitations of the Air Tag: For example: If your cat or dog is running around in a remote location or you forgot your backpack out somewhere in the woods far enough from civilization, there is a good possibility that there will be no Apple Iphones around within 30 ft (and it must also be with its Bluetooth function and location services ON ), plus if there is no WiFi signal nor a Cell Tower signal close enough, then it will NOT show you its location. The Air Tags work great in a well populated city with plenty of iPhones… but not so much in remote places without people with cell phones around.
Just remember: there are several conditions that must be met. Remove any one of the following conditions and the AirTag will not work for you until ALL the conditions are met:
Necessary Conditions: 1.the AirTag needs any iPhone within 30 to 50 feet of it, 2. which must connected to a cell tower, 3. or connected to a WiFi, and, 4. and it must have its Bluetooth and its Location Services turned ON to update its location. (Remember that the AirTag does not have GPS function in it so it needs to rely on getting and sending its location from a nearby cell phone!).
Otherwise, within these limitations, it is s great device!
This was super helpful, thanks!
I love the idea of these! Oh, and, I have the Tile app on my iPhone, not because I have a Tile (I don't), but because I actually would like to help someone find their stuff if it's lost.
You deserve a kiss from whomever you like.
I've been a tile user for a few years with various different types... THis is because I'm hopeless and used to lose keys and my wallet at home, panic that they weren't at home, then replace cards etc only to find my wallet again. The biggest thing with them is the mixture of form factors (including the few styles with a keyring/lanyard loop) make having an option for a wallet, keys, tech, and several come with self adhesive pads so they can be stuck under or in things. You wouldn't know there was a tile on the bottom of my laptop, or my wallet. They even offer bright pattern tags which look more like a keyring so blend in.
Love the idea of the apple network providing constant coverage if they're in lost mode, but man they're ugly. I wouldn't want that thing with the weird loop on my keys, it's too big and bulky. If they slimmed them down and made different shapes for different applications, I'd be more tempted.
Yeah, I totally get that, but for sure this is their V1 product. Hopefully once they get these out there, they'll start to come up with other versions like Tile. That would be ideal!
Great overview, thanks David!
Your video was very helpful. But your presentation, delivery and expressions were even better! Thanks for the upbeat info!
Thanks my friend for the vid. Torn between Tile and Airtags, just ordered the tags!
Thanks for this video. I'm debating whether to keep the AirTag visible or hidden. What are your thoughts on the Belkin secure holder for the AirTag?
Great, I’ve been looking for a discrete adhesive to mount an airbag with.
I just purchased the AirTag 4-pack. Thanks the great tips!
Very valid point.... thanks
David-weird question for you…what font did you use for your name at the end of this video? Great video, btw. I’m considering buying some air tags and your video really had some useful information in it.
Thank you for another great and informative video
BATTERY LIFE: I bought (and activated) four ATs in July of 2021. It is now December of 2022 and I had to replace one battery in September, and one this month. The other two have not yet shown up as being low. So at least Apple's claimed year (and maybe up to 18 months) of battery life can be expected from these. Two of these go into town a lot while two of them are on the road far less often. I suspect that these "report" their location whenever an iPhone comes into range, so if you live where they can report all the time your battery life will be shorter as it will be in use more often. My two that are still going strong after 17 months stay at home most of the time, and I live in a small town where most of the locals have cheap android phones. In town, it is more affluent, so there are far more expensive iPhones in use, and I think that affects battery life.
Thanks sooooo much very informative!!! 😊
Excellent video answer a lot of questions that I had
Brilliant video. It answered loads of my curiosity about AirTags 👍
It also lacks an altimeter. So if you lost an item in a multi story building it wouldn't tell you what floor it was on just that it was in the building
Out of all the YT video on air tag. This one resonated with the most common sense 🙃👌
Dude, thanks Eddie! That means a lot with how many are out there! You rock brother👍
Most practical take on air tags I have seen. These would be cool if I was in that ecosystem, but I think the accessory pricing would trigger my inner cheap side and I would never buy them.
I'm totally with you. Just makes no sense that their main competitor Tile, has a hole in it so you can keyring it right out of the box and they didn't include that simple design piece. Very odd
@@DavidManningvlog Tiles are huge compared to Airtags. They better have case functions included.
10 months too late to let you know that Samsung has one that is way better?
My keychain is a Lighter Leash...Perfect circle to put it in and not obvious at first sight...Perfect!...
Good advice!
Thanks for the info !
I've been waiting until school was done to watch this
Good job waiting until school was done and not sneaking off to the bathroom to watch!🤣👍
Thank you for your video. I appreciate the info!!
What’s you say in this makes so much sense. Thanks. I did plan on hiding 3 of these on my 3 pieces of luggage. I was going to hang the 4th on my backpack. Now i will hide it inside.
1. By not having the loop attached, it makes it easier to hide the AirTag in your bag or under your skatboard.
2. Hold your breath and count to 10. By the time you are done, Amazon will have a TON of cheap third-party accessories to buy and attach to your AirTag.
I just got mine today. Good investment after I got my backpack stolen out a hotel during my visit In Myrtle beach. I attached in on a zipper inside the bad but I think I might stick it deep in another pocket
Breath held .... they now have a 5 pack for $7 ... LOL
Question: what if somebody steals my luggage that had an AirTag. 10 minutes later, my AirTag tells the thief, ‘Hey! You’re being tracked’ and he chimes the tag and takes off the battery?
Takes a few hours to alert someone that an AirTag is following them, so you have time to find your thing. UNLESS they have an iPhone and go to their "Home" marked in their iPhone. That will then alert them that an AirTag has followed them home. Apple prioritizes anti-stalking over anti-theft👍
@@DavidManningvlog Well dang. I had the same question…..Thanks for answering!
Buy / make a silent Airtag
@@DavidManningvlog yea well it might take u a few ouhr to notice that ur device bike escooter is missing then by the time u notice it its battery has been taken out
@@DavidManningvlog "Apple prioritizes anti-stalking over anti-theft" - Yeah, because stalking is so much more common than theft - MMB
Which app are you using?
Helpful thank you
I'm a new air tag user - this is great advice!! Thank you so much :-)
but if someone steels my bike say, wouldn't the airtag alert the person who stole my bike that they are being tracked and then they can just find it disable it, defeating the purpose of tracking the bike. is that right ?
Thank you for your clear video instruction. I have been trying to put the back on for about 45 minutes with no success. I shall try later on, then if not, I will take it to a jeweller to put back on for me. My thoughts on Apple Air Tags (I run an all Apple environment) I would highly recommend people not but this product. In my experience, being one month, it sometimes works. And in a tracking device which can be mission critical sometimes reliable is unacceptable. I am stuck with my Air Tags as they are a present from my wife and monogrammed, otherwise I would have chucked them in the bin and used my old Tile which has never let me down despite a range of challenging environments. Air Tags are a beautiful looking device, but I have found they just don’t work even in a totally Apple environment,
Great useful information for how to most effectively use my Air Tags.
Why can’t my iPad or Mac send me the same type of messages as my AirTag does? (~Your item is not with you.)
You could always use 2 of them, 1 visible and 1 hidden if you are trying to protect expensive items/bags.
This is actually what I'm thinking! OR, there could be a huge market for a "decoy AirTag". Like $5 for a piece of plastic that looks exactly like an AirTag. You put that in a key chain and hang it on the outside of your bag, then hide a real AirTag inside! Genius!
Cleaver!
@@DavidManningvlog Sounds great, and might be great for people who will rely on NFC finding, but aren't luggage cards cheaper?
@@DavidManningvlog but what's the point then
for vehicles. you could put several warning sticker on your car, saying "There are SEVERAL airtags in this car and they are all Well hidden, Good luck finding All of them in time."
Great video. Thanks.
Thanks for the informative video. I received a set of AirTags for Christmas. I set one up and put it in my son’s jacket so I could see where he went on a snow machine ride. I thought it had gps and would track where he went. Nope. He off he went on the snow machine, and the AirTag showed the last location, which was where he started from - our house! I was pretty disappointed. I’m sure it works great in a city, but not so much in the wilds of northwestern Ontario.
And for the record, my son knew about the tag in his jacket 👍
Yeah, unfortunately for that use case, it's not GPS based. It's relying on pinging iPhones for its location. So if your son had an iPhone on him as well, then you could search for the AirTag at any point and it would show you its current location, but for tracking, you would be better off just using the iPhone in his pocket and something like Strava to track his rides👍
What if you put one in your Carry-on. Will the tag set the alarm when it goes thru scanner thing at the airport
?
Excellent info, instant subscribe!
That is great advice!
nice product from apple.. i want to have one for may backpack for traveling, there’s might be a small problem though.. not all thieves uses iphone 🙄🙄🙄 and are we gonna get alerted aswell even if a person who happen to have an iphone that found our valuables with tha airtag wouldn’t scan the device? thanks!
Will the tags work across all devices on my Apple ID? Or will it start pinging when the items are in possession of a second iphone on my Apple ID ?
Great video my friend. Couldn’t agree more with you.
Thanks Dan! I appreciate that man!
This makes complete sense.
Love Othello! Yeah, those look about the right size.
With the tile if I lost my phone I could press the button on the tile and my phone would ring. Can I do a similar thing with the Air Tag if I lose my phone
Very good explanation
Thanks for all the info 👍 However, I do have a question. Base on what you describe in the "Stalker proof" section, it would also alert a thief that an air tag is "stalking" them and so notify them that the item stolen is tracked, is that correct? if true than the tag is basically useless to track stolen items.
I just picked up for air tags holders on Amazon for $16. Waterproofing with the metal key rings .
Does it only link to other IPhones or can it pick up the signal from Android phones as well??
Can I use an apple air pod inside my suitcase on international travel. Would it help find a lost suitcase?
Thx. I enjoyed your video
Good cool video David m great ideas to hide the tags , when you loose it….
Thanks Xabier!

You mentioned an accessory by "moment" ? I'm in Europe, can't find them ?? Any suggestion?
Totally agree that Air Tags should be hidden.

Video was helpful
Thanks for the heads up on these! Didn’t know about them. I have had a couple of Tile devices (didn’t love them). This has some unique features I think I’ll like. I’m with you... not everyone is honest and good. Just sayin’ btw they totally look like Othello pieces. (Don’t let your opponent get the corner spots lol)
What phone case is that?
I work for a company that lets customers borrow and return items. We have been looking into a way of tracking items that have not been returned. Do you think we need some sort of disclaimer on the items so customers do not get alarmed that their phone notifies them they are being tracked? Also, does the AT send constant warning of being tracked or just the 1?
Thank you! I've just bought some Airbags and I've been saying the same thing. What other 3rd party solutions are out there?
I've looked around at a ton and I just end up tucking them into a small pocket on my bags. Seems to have worked perfectly so far!
@@DavidManningvlog I’ve been doing the same and it seems to work for me too. Thanks for all your great content!
If you've hidden in your car and someone steals it and you activate 'lost' mode can that person, if they're an iPhone user, actually see that air tag that you've hidden in your vehicle search for it find it and disable it? Is that even possible?
He’s trying to sell me a shirt now😂
Actually, I think if you think your item has been stolen, you should not put the airtag into lost mode. Lost mode will alert anyone in proximity to the item (including potentially the thief). You should just use passive tracking
Doesn't the alert just pass through their devices to the owner of the airtag until the airtag thinks it is being used to track someone's privacy?
Yeah but if the item moves with them long enough the thief might also get allerted that there is someone "tracking them"! So not great in situations of theft!
what do you mean with 'passive tracking'? Once the airtag is out of my reach, I cant track it anymore...
@@franc4237 these are just my terms but I would say “active” tracking is when you set it to lost mode or have it play the chime. Passive is the other state, when it is sharing its location quietly with nearby Apple devices
I agree but with only 20 ft of range without beeping it that may take a while
Very wise advice, having just purchased some more "vaults" just wasn't making sense to me to have these in plain sight were someone to walk off with my laptop bag in my oops left my truck unlocked when I stop at the liquor store. See a whole new challenge here trying to outsmart the nefarious type, came up with something clever enough. Almost hope it gets stolen to see it work someday :)
Great advice about being safe David.... It does look like Othello!!! Thanks!!!
Hahah! Totally Othello! And for sure safer than not having one. Obviously not fool proof, but it's something👍
But wouldn’t the app notify the thief of the airtag since it is not their airtag, vs. not notified if airtag is your, hence they could disable.
11:40 - I removed the pcb on mine and wired under my laptop motherboard.. (also wired it into the pc speakers and battery) If someone steals the laptop, they'll have a hard time disabling the tracker.
The question is, if some one takes your whatever object with an air tag in it, and they have an iPhone; would their iPhone tell them that someone else’s air tag is following them? So if they see the air tag or they don’t they are still notified that there is an air tag?
Well i seen a guy remove the speaker. Its a magnetic little thing that pops right out! Thats brilliant. After removing the battery theres 3 little clips if you use like a small razer you can pop it right out and remove the speaker. This is perfect for people who are hiding the airtag against a thief! Let them search rather then hear and remove quickly!
A nice app would be one that tells you when you out of BT range, like in a restaurant or shopping centre.
Just bought one to use on an upcoming overseas trip. I plan on using a piece of carry-on luggage, but have read that if the overhead bins fill up, an airline may take your suitcase and check it. Question: Can I simply place the Air Tag INSIDE my luggage, or does it have to be in one of those holders and attached outside?
Yes, can be kept inside the luggage
I bought two key chain holders, one was a Belkin plastic one for me and the other was an Apple leather one for my wife. I wanted hers to look good. I have a side pocket on my wallet that is where the third one goes and the fourth one goes in my wife's purse; so no other holders were necessary to purchase. The accessory market will be a boon for both Apple and third parties, hence the reason for not having a "hole" attachment point on the Apple air tag.
Not gonna lie, I didn't even know these existed until I watched this video lmao. I do really like the idea behind these, may throw one on my bike with that thing you suggested by moment.
Would be a solid little back up plan in case it gets nabbed!👍
Great video! TFS
Othello was awesome. Love that game.
Dude, such a fun game!
Great vlog all the way from 🇦🇺💙😊😍❤️🤍🐊🍎👍🏻👌🙋♀️🙋♂️
In my opinion, the AirTag was not meant to track stolen items. It was meant to find lost items. It probably won’t help you track down a stolen item because it’s so easy to disable.
Not really, I think it could be used a lot to find stolen items. There are plenty of videos showing how to disable the speaker. Its super easy and if you hide it well enough like maybe on a bike, the thief might get an alert on their iPhone but may not be able to find it. Then hopefully you would be able to find the stolen item before the thief would find the air-tag.
@@brennerborec3422 thats an interesting idea… thanks
There was a story in the news about a guy whose car was stolen but he hid an airtag somewhere inside the car and he was able to locate it. So as long as you're able to hide the tag you can find lost and stolen items.
For stolen items, they should update the AigTag so that users who register their tags with a government ID get to have a function where they have a much longer time period when it won't notify someone that an unknown tag is traveling with them. I should disincentive ne'er-do-wells from using them.
@@edhu9 So do you think I can use it to find my car in a parking lot.
there are wallets sold now to hold an airtag on the front of the wallet. How does it work? You said you did not recommend putting an airtag where someone can see it. Help please?
If the air tag alerts u thst u are being tracked by an air tag isn't that alerting the thief he's being tracked kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it?
I'm moving from the West coast to the East coast and we're get professional moving company, my question is will the Airtag work inside of the moving semi-truck? Would the driver of the truck know if Airtag is hidden with furniture?
Man I played Othello when I was a kid loved that game!
Hahaaa! So random, right?! But they look exactly like the Othello tiles🤣
Also, why would you want a chime going off alerting a possible thief there is an air tag inside. Can the sound/chime be disabled?
I use a slim cardholder and have no idea how I use Airtag with it.
ty, nice hair
Maybe I didn’t understand when you were talking about the air tag tracking people if someone steals my backpack and they have an iPhone is the air tag going to alert them that there is one nearby that is tracking them
I concur
Something I’ve noticed is that even when not in lost mode the location of my air tag gets updated every time it connects with an iPhone nearby
Yes it is true
Right...that's how they work.
How can you put these on tv remotes
Throw an AirTag in the toilet and track it!😂😂
good idea…YOU can do that and let us know 😅😅🤗
I’m just waiting for them to be released in Asia so I can buy them😂
Thanks for this informative video.
If I put an Air Tag in my car and forget where I parked it (can be a few blocks away from my apartment), will the Tag's location automatically show up on my iDevice? Folks with iPhones walk around my neighbourhood all the time including the various spots where I park my car. I don't want to deliberately make the Tag in my car beep as obviously I would not hear it from a block away.
i believe that if you use apple maps and park your car after getting to a destination, it will automatically mark it as parked car. but if its your normal parking spot near your apartment and you dont use maps it probably wont do that. if you leave an air tag somewhere in your car you can always find it, without beeping even if someone stole your car and drove away to another city or country, if it will get in touch for a second with another apple device connected to the network you will be able to see its location and track it down. hope that helps
You don’t need to be in lost mode for other users to update your tags location
When you put it in lost mode how long before it alerts someone that the AirTag is close by. My thought is if someone that has an iPhone steals my item. I activate lost mode and then they get an alert saying that an AirTag is close, they turn on the alarm, find my AirTag and throw it in a ditch keeping my item. Kind of defeats the purpose. I sort of want to see if I can disable the alarm and then hide it really really well, to the point the thief decides its not worth it and ditches the item.
So if you have it on something on a child, or a camera bag, and it was around a person person who took it, would it then alert them an airtag was tracking nearby?
Takes a few hours to alert someone that an AirTag is following them, so you have time to find your item. UNLESS they have an iPhone and go to their "Home" marked in their iPhone. That will then alert them that an AirTag has followed them home. Apple prioritizes anti-stalking over anti-theft👍
So the thief who stole my bag is driving away from the scene, will he get a message on his phone that says there is an itag in his car, lol. If someone steals the item , I would have to quickly go into Lost mode before his phone alerts him?
Exactly, my first thought.
Should take a couple hours for the thief to get an alert or when the thief gets to their "home" that they have setup in their iPhone. So you'll have a bit of time to get it into Lost Mode, but you'll need to be decently quick!
Thief tracking is not what this is designed for. It's not even in their marketing. Bottom line, don't rely on this. Just be vigilant of your things, and get insurance.
@@GuyVinmara I get that, it’s the potential thief notifying part I’m not crazy about. But if it takes a day or two to notify it should be enough time.
@@keithlambert6217 I think it might take more than a day or 2 to get that notification
Assuming a thief does make off with an air tagged item, Won’t the airtag make a sound when their iOS device comes near it? Is there some way to disable the airtag from making any sounds when it’s in lost mode, (unless it’s near your own iOS device)?
I was thinking of opening the airtag and disconnecting the built in speaker. there will be no chime for the theft but their phone will still get the notification if they have an iphone

Hello: do you know that find my network cost money to run. So how it paid for. By us of course, buying holders and accessories.
One other point. Unless you have the latest iPhone you can’t do the closeup scanning. So maybe you should bring that up in your next video.
