So if you want a trench coat but are worried what people would think. don’t be, be confident and walk with purpose and no matter who you are it will look good on you.
I normally wear my trench coat during the 3 seasons besides Sumer due to the intense heat. But when Autumn and Spring come along, I tend to wear it for warmth and I like the feel and look at myself when the wind hits and the end of my coat flaps. During the winter, I regularly wear something warm under the coat like more layers of clothes. Personally, I don't pay any mind to what people think of me when I'm wearing a trench coat, especially if I'm at school. I just like the fashion of the trench coat or even a duster.
Wrong fact about the gun flap, I went to a Burberry training about the Gaberdine trench coat and the reason behind the gun flap before was because when they would shoot their rifles during the war, the kickback of the rifle ends up ruining their coats, so the gun flap was made and was actually replaceable so they wouldn't have to fix the whole coat, it was a quicker way so they could use their trench coat right away. Just through i'd share this info so you could help improve the knowledge of people! Great VIdeos and keep it up! Deep Yoke Back - The extra layer was there because during the war, the most exposed part of the person is the back, they added that for extra protection against the rain. +Ramir Sioson If you check out our full guide, you can see that we mentioned everything that you mentioned as well. The problem with a video is that it cannot be too long, otherwise people will not watch it. www.gentlemansgazette.com/trench-coat-guide/
Burberry's a bit off here. A flap of cloth won't do anything for kickback, but I can see some argument for wear and tear. If you look at the history of the coat, it was purchased by Officers. Officers didn't typically use rifles, but they did use pistols. When their arms are raised in a shooting position, rain would frequently enter their coat due to the collar "billowing out", so the flap was added so they could raise their arm and remain dry - exactly as was mentioned in the video.
A concise and informative vid. I retired from the U.S. Marine Corps 12 years ago after 20 years of service. I recently pulled my service trench coat out of the sea bag (yes, I can still fit my uniforms) and put it in the dry cleaners in time for spring. You taught me some things. For instance, I never knew about the gun flap, but it makes perfect sense, thanks.
Sorry if I reply to this very late, but do you wear the trench coat with your uniforms or with civilian clothing? I’m asking because I’m looking for a trench coat but the only affordable ones I can find are the ones used in the military

Gentleman's Gazette need some help, I bought a trench coat without a belt, it has all the features you mentioned but without the belt. What can I do? The coat is green, would finding and using a black belt work? I need some suggestions here, thanks.
I found a deep blue military (Navy) trench coat at a surplus store for 20 dollars. We dated it to about the early 70's. It's crazy warm. Normally I wear it only when it's incredibly cold out, as it's fairly unwieldy and somewhat difficult to drive in. But, I always get compliments on it when I do wear it.
The thing about Gabardine cloth is that even though it is 100% cotton, it's a very tight and thick weave. It is designed to 'swell' when water hits it, and then keeps from further ingress of water. Wearing a wool sweater/jumper underneath should help the system work just a bit better, but cotton is not my first choice. Other garments you might look at are those made from Grenfell cloth, and of course Harris Tweed, which is wool. I prefer the wool myself.
I love the Grenfell gabardines and cloths. Also their version of the golfer jacket disputed by some to be older than Baracuta's own version of the jacket.

Bought one today, a Dutch (new) surplus army trench coat. Crazy affordable, a bunch were hanging on a rack in a military surplus store (in the Netherlands) with no price tag. So I asked the price, thinking it would be 70 euros or so which is still cheap as it was a surplus store... But then they told me, oh... These are 17,50 euros ! With removable winter liner. Great information about the trench. A mens mid length Burberry trench is great. I found a quilted diamond black mens trench preloved and that's coat is amazing I got caught in a downpour and I stayed warm and dry. Now I'm on the hunt for a tan color
Looking sharp in your trench coat. I myself like the Burberrys' trench coats because they have that military style. In the British army especially in WW1 no officer would go over the top with a rifle- they were for the men. A Webley .38 on a Sam Browne plus or minus a swagger stick and or a cane was the done thing.

+Jack Callahan Aquascutum Did! Aquascutum is actually the more authentic Brand They where the first Brand to be known for there Trench Coats AquaScutum is since 1851 and Burberry is 1856 So in conclusion also if you see the Website he wears and likes AquaScutum.
I have a trench coat but what I don’t is the belt where you have to tie it. But I’m thinking about including a Sam Browne belt on my trench coat? If it’s okay though 🤔
Found a great trench coat in a second hand store. 60% cotton, 40% poly. Checks most of the other boxes mentioned in the video with one exception. I got it home and realized no belt. Suggestions on how to replace the belt on this $8 find? Is going beltless acceptable and should I just rock it like a top coat? The trench is a dark grey. Note too the collar has a black over liner and looks to be removable like the inner liner. I imagine this is for transitioning from one season to the next. Appreciate any and all suggestions regarding the replacement of the belt
So I just bought the Sandringham short in black and the Kensington mid length in honey. The Kensington is by far the better option if you're an athletic build. I wasn't too fond of the Burberrys' trench coat
I have my own coat, it being a vintage wilson brown leather jacket, about mid-thigh. It's a sort-of formal sort-of casual, and I'm not sure when to wear it.
The trench coat and Duster are two completely different coats. I have a Duster, while its great for keeping rain and weather off me, It's NOT the warmest coat in the world. Often I need to put a sweater or another lighter coat under it to have it keep me warm at all. But for keeping rain, snow, and the like off you, you can't beat a good duster. I do want to eventually get a Trenchcoat to add to my collection.
Just picked up a mint condition Brooks Brothers trench coat at a salvation army, I mean this one looks new and only paid $50, also picked up a mint condition London Fog trench coat kinda army green clean line for only $17.99 killer deal
I managed to find a 1970s Burberry in pristine condition in the perfect size for me for only £180...to buy the same model now would have cost me £1650. I’m very pleased.
I found a vintage Burberry on eBay recently in a beautiful beige/khaki color for $180 USD. Don’t know how old it is, but it’s in excellent condition and so glad I bought it. Waiting on it to come in. I almost went for a navy Kensington Burberry trench, but thought the beige was more of a classic color to go for.
The storm flap or gun flap for men’s trench coat is over the right shoulder while in women’s trench coat it’s on the left shoulder, this is a sure way of telling a man’s trench coat apart especially if you are buying vintage.
I live in a tropical country, and I wear trench in summer as well as in rainy season (I'm not an easily sweating guy, and I always make sure that my trench are made of cotton)
The problem is where to find this classic trench coat. Burberry has just 1 of a decent length and Asquascutum nil. I had a brilliant one 40 years ago from Austin Reed, special range from Germany with an almost silk feel but all the features you mention here. It lasted decades. But where to find a replacement! Any suggestion appreciated.

Where can I find the blue coat featured in your video?
My Army issued trench coat is, I believe, 35% cotton and 65% polyester
I have a trench coat but what I don’t is the belt where you have to tie it. But I’m thinking about including a Sam Browne belt on my trench coat? If it’s okay though 🤔
I have just brought a desirable black trench coat!
Thanks for the inside line!
Just got my Sandringham, keen to wear it tomorrow 🏆
Just aquired a swag Aqua 5 trench coat, 100% cotton. And it fits pretty well. Defo need alterations though.
I like those emblems you placed on your epaulets. What sort are they?
+Aldroid151 I received them from a great uncle's estate. I liked them but can't tell you more about them, sorry.
I am genuinely interested thank you. 😊
I honestly got into trench coats because of a certain game series. I wonder what kind of trench coat Dante wears
What types of hat/umbrellas are appropriate with a trench coat? I travel frequently and want an appropriate, waterproof combo. Thank you!
Nice video. Which kind of hats can be weared to a trenchcoat? Perhaps trilbys? Or something else?
Found a great trench coat in a second hand store. 60% cotton, 40% poly. Checks most of the other boxes mentioned in the video with one exception. I got it home and realized no belt. Suggestions on how to replace the belt on this $8 find? Is going beltless acceptable and should I just rock it like a top coat? The trench is a dark grey. Note too the collar has a black over liner and looks to be removable like the inner liner. I imagine this is for transitioning from one season to the next. Appreciate any and all suggestions regarding the replacement of the belt
Hi, can I ask where can I buy an pre-1999 Burberrys' trench coat? I really love the ancient one.
Hi Sven--would you do a video on classic ways to tie trench coat belt--I prefer to tie belt versus use belt. Thank you, James the Wine Guy
Is there a women’s version to this channel?
Im 5'5 feet. I think Im super short. Should I wear trench coat tho?
im getting real inspector gadget vibes off this guy
The storm flap or gun flap for men’s trench coat is over the right shoulder while in women’s trench coat it’s on the left shoulder, this is a sure way of telling a man’s trench coat apart especially if you are buying vintage.
Thank you for this Informative video :-)
Great information.
+glduncan68 thank you
Can I wear a trench coat during the summer here in UK?
+Omeir Khan why not?
+Gentleman's Gazette Thanks
Summers in the UK are often fairly cool anyway.
I live in a tropical country, and I wear trench in summer as well as in rainy season (I'm not an easily sweating guy, and I always make sure that my trench are made of cotton)
I want Harris trench coat

Techno !Scientific Fascist! What kind did Dylan wear I like that coat.
+Techno !Scientific Fascist! duster is a trench coat
Hello, Mr. Schnider and the Gentleman's Gazette team!
Do you think Uniqlo's version is good enough?
Signed, Theswitcher27
The problem is where to find this classic trench coat. Burberry has just 1 of a decent length and Asquascutum nil. I had a brilliant one 40 years ago from Austin Reed, special range from Germany with an almost silk feel but all the features you mention here. It lasted decades. But where to find a replacement! Any suggestion appreciated.
As much as I love the trench coat, Burberry ones are way too overpriced.
Tell me about it! Around ten times what I can afford!
They are beautiful pieces but it's laughable, who can afford that?
Buy used on eBay
If a trench coat is in a size small, does it necessarily mean the fit will be close to a small shirt, or even a small winter jacket?
Thank you for the history cause I never knew any of this

Love the video Sven! what hanger would I use for a trench coat? Just a traditional suit coat hanger?
+Comment UA-cam Since it does not have shoulder paddings a things would should suffice. I use the ones from Butler Luxury www.gentlemansgazette.com/butler-luxury-wooden-hanger/
I've sewn two suede pockets on the interior of each side of mine so i can carry two 22 inch tramontinas.
Do you do the bottom button up on a trench coat ?
Yes if he weather is really windy and raining quite heavy
If I wear a size 48 R suit jacket, should I purchase a size 50 to compensate for my suit jacket? Thank you.
