10 years. 10 years people. Can we talk about the evolution of subs and LFE in just a decade?! I don't think that there has been an exponential progression of equipment and tech this fast ever, if not maybe the introduction of Dolby and 5.1 early on in the induction of home theater. It's really amazing honestly. The subwoofer market has become a nuclear arms race and there are so many absolute top tier players now it boggles the mind.

Ok let's go way back 25 years from now from when I've been hacked but it's been since the 70's i believe & I quote when the SUN that got designed is when codes and practiceing policys & law which is illegal u can't practice a law? U machine doesn't learn it's programmed to do what it's designed to now with technology on the raise & people our thought differen from what it post to do instead u only get told what the programer said therefore it can't think? I think there's a lot misleading the ones trying to fix it & ones trying to make us think otherwise the block chain actually is linking it instead of blocking in other words strings! Who made the first A.I then tell Eric Schmidt stop bs or tell me what amount of 50% he wants from me then I'll reply!

And the XR13 is less than half the price of Paradigm's Signature Sub 2 which couples its output stage directly to the 240V mains for insane bass all while ALMOST causing your martini sitting on the enclosure to ripple.
Even on sale (which they currently are 15% off), the XR13's are solidly out of my price range. I had to settle for two Defiance X12's (the 15's were just too massive).
I chuckled when he mentioned DIY to get that kind of bass. Sure, find a sub driver equivalent to that monster, try to build a box for it that looks as nice as the XR13. Buy an amp to power it. Find an extra DSP laying around to further match it to the enclosure and program it to prevent the sub from grenading itself during peak excursion. Oh, forgot the room correction! Yeah, DIY, sure.

Thanks for the video. To answer your question my favorite small subwoofers are my pair of SVS SB1000 Pros. Dig down to 20 Hz in my listening room with 12 drivers in a 13 inch box. The open box price for both at $900 US sealed the deal.

I’ve had 2 for almost a year now. I used to have huge HT subs but I’ve learned better bass is better than bigger bass. These things are a joy to listen to and are so tight and articulate. No more big boxes for me. Also…best looking subs period.

I'm the same way. I have 2 15" Rythmik's. I know there are many subs out there now adays especially, that have higher output, but the fidelity of the bass that they produce is absolutely seductive. They are absolutely no slouch in output either, but unless you prioritize music, there are many other great subs out there for HT, I am just a heavy user of both and wont accept anything but high SQ as a number 1 priority.

I do in my current setup because of size and build quality. The G25HP is a better sub output wise and probably a bit tighter. It digs deeper and has a lot more punch than the XR13s. I do love both. No real winner here. I'd be content with either.@@perryler

Love Paradigms older subs. Recently got my hands on a near perfect Servo 15V2 and just can't get enough of it. Hunting for a second now, but they don't come up often. For real small box subs, I think the PW 2100 V2 might be my favorite. Dial it in right and it's a little jack hammer and digs pretty deep for their price.

Wow, these things are really impressive and look to be direct competitors to the Perlisten R210S and the JL Audio F113. Great review Shane! I wonder how these bad boys would have done on Interstellar, Dune, and Blade Runner 2049? It's obviously somewhat of a niche product since most consumers aren't going to fork out $5K (or $10K) for subs. The thing with 3-5K subs though is that they not only have really good output, but they also typically produce textured and tactile bass so well. Hopefully some day Shane will be able to review some JL Audio subs, but I seriously doubt JL will send out review models.

Very cool, but i would probably go with a JTR RS2 for that price. Everyone talks about "faster" or "tighter" bass and in the recent Audioholics showdown the JTR had exactly that, really tight controlled bass with amazing output. They tested the RS1 which was well above the pack in every way. Cant even imagine how much better the RS2 would be.

OK, I gotta ask this question to Shane if he does check these comments. At 12:28 when you said "vibrate the crap outta my ass", was that literal or figurative? So, like, were you saying it like "that sub shook the crap outta my room" and you just happened to say "ass"? Or, did you literally mean, "vibrate the crap outta my ass." I don't know why I gotta know the answer to this, but I'm just super curious. I've never heard anyone say that literally before but I kinda think it should catch on. "Dude....this sub........is crap outta my ass good." Ton of possibilities. Anyway, solid video, cool sub. Let me know. Thanks.

you really need at least 60fps when filming subwoofer drivers moving. please get on that asap :)
edge of tomorrow intro bass goes down to 10hz, i can not reach that with authority, my subs rolls of after 12hz, but the 15hz was loud and shaky :)
but i only have a pair of 10", i am sure you can eq Paradigm XR13 to do 10hz unless there is a high pass filter on them, got enough watts to do it for sure. i only have 100 watts on mine but can get max excursion on my sealed box with no issue.

      Yes and no.
The smaller a sealed enclosure the higher distortion due to assymetry in air-pressure.
The distortion is related to the SPL inside of the enclosure. I don't remember the numbers but for small enclosures with large displacement drivers the added distortion due to this is significant.
It's just a fact based in physics.

I guess $40.000 subs are stuck in storage, no one buys those? Please let the door smack you on the way out, careful those stairs...here's a banana peel:)

Hey buddy. Not everyone is spending heavy money on cars 'n' 304s. I personally invest my hard earned $$$ in my stereo system especially. So these reviews are specifically for me in particular.

The XR13's are not at the top of the Paradigm price structure either. So these reviews are relevant to a lot of people who have different values than you do.
Take the Persona 9H's for example. You can have them custom finished and the sub section is 240V powered all in the same enclosure for under $20K each. Contrast this with many, many flagship offerings from other companies costing tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands more.
You absolutely get what you pay for with Paradigm's.
