    Do NOT wait to see it in your channel. Top Gun Maverick is fantastic and worth paying for the biggest screen you can find. The aerial shots from inside the F-18s are insanely good and best seen on the big scree. Trust me on this one boys, this is not the movie to skip in theaters.

      Cannot agree with this more. Saw Top Gun: Maverick opening night and it is legitimately better than this original. The ONLY thing the original does much better, honestly, is the soundtrack. That one is an A+. The new one is around a B. The point is - SEE THE NEW ONE ON A BIG SCREEN.

    Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone was specifically written for this movie. in 1986 I was serving in the Navy and my ship was overseas in the Pacific when the movie came out, and my ship was part of a carrier battlegroup. one day we were sitting around the fantail (back of the ship) and we were buzzed by an F-14, which then did a barrel roll. we LOST OUR MINDS, pumping our fists in the air, and wishing we were Tom Cruise!

      @@Zeppelinlv2007 ok, so after having watched the new Top Gun movie 4 times (twice in IMAX theatres, and twice in DOLBY theatres) I noticed that the opening shots on the deck of the aircraft carrier did not have any smoke in the air like in the original film, and also lacked the brownish-orange sepiatone colors that gave the original film’s opening a distinctive mysterious feeling to the atmosphere. Also, in the new film’s opening, there wasn’t any slow motion movement of the people working on the deck, and not much choreography of their movements with the music when Danger Zone starts playing. They also cut some of the middle of original song out, so it felt a little rushed. All in all, it was still a good opening, but not a great opening like in the original film.

    Here me out, I don't think Iceman necessarily stopped being abrasive with Maverick because he was sad Goose died. I think he partially felt responsible for cutting Maverick off to get the shot, when he, Mr. Cool as Ice, would have known Maverick wouldn't have just backed away, but would have been on his ass, and chomping at the bit to pressure Iceman out of the shot, and it wasn't until Maverick overcame his pain and reengaged the Migs in the Mission, and dominated the batte to protect the stranded destroyer at their friendship was solidified
    It's clearly not Ice's fault either, but he would have felt some shared sense of responsibility for putting them in that position any ways, because Iceman's a good guy, he is super dedicated to the people who fly with him, even his rivals. Further proof of that would have also been the fact his loyalty to Cougar is what set him off against Maverick in the first place.

    1. An old shipmate of mine was on the Enterprise when they filmed this.
    2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash.
    3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash.
    These men and the men working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out😎
    4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a little-known movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT
    5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong.
    6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone"
    7. John Stockwell/Cougar played in Stephen King's "Christine".
    8. Onboard the ship the Squadron leader would not be smoking a cigar in that operation space.
    9. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called, "Joe vs the Volcano' She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT
    10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood(not the pilot). There is AC onboard.
    11. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. It's now at NAS Fallon, NV.
    12. In 1991 I was stationed on the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) and they made a movie onboard called "Flight of the Intruder".
    It was seriously cool. Brad Johnson, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT.
    You will be the first.
    13. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seem like they were
    practicing.

Those with extensive knowledge of aviation say that the burnouts after flying through jet wash and the poor reaction of the canopy when not moving forward were real problems in the initial F-14s. But first, bear in mind that before the movie starts, the National Anthem is played, and every single person in there is saluting the flag that stands beside the stage. I saw this movie with a bunch of female army spouses. Our husbands had seen it earlier that night as a group. When we all convened afterward, over drinks, we discussed our favorite scenes. The guys were talking weapons, tech and aircraft. Us ladies could only remember the volleyball scene. The guys did not even remember it from the movie.

    Funny thing about the song Take My Breath Away. Berlin didn't write it and a few members didn't like it which unfortunately lead to the break up of the band. The accident that killed Goose was based on a real life tragedy that occurred. The F14's had a problem with their turbines that if air from another aircraft disturbed the engines that caused an engine stall or jet wash. When the plane went into a flat spin this caused the canopy to hang up over the plane instead of blowing away and clear. Was hard to watch that scene and still is today. You guys are a riot! Glad you reacted to Top Gun. Such an iconic movie with a fantastic soundtrack, too. I was in 6th grade when this movie came out. My dad was stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Just saw the sequel a couple weeks ago in an XD theatre and I will say, it doesn’t disappoint. It was just as much fun as the first one. Don’t wait, go see it.

      Wasn’t always easy, my dad was gone A LOT!!! But he made a career of it and we got to see a lot of the world, most people don’t get that luxury. I know he would say it was a pleasure to serve and your welcome. He’s now 71 and these days he’s a preacher and a chaplain for hospice.

    You guys really need to see Iron Eagle. It came out around the same time, and while it doesn't have near the production value (the US military didn't want to participate, so they shot all the aerial stuff in Israel), it's got a fun story and a great soundtrack. It makes a great flip side movie to Top Gun.

    3 things: remember the comment about the admiral's daughter (her name as well). It's essential to the sequel. Also when the pilot was told not to fire until fired upon, shooting 1st starts a shooting war. You need to find out what the bogey's intentions are 1st before firing upon him. You can't just guess that they have bad intentions and blow him out of the sky. 3rd, you would think that Iceman comes off as egotistic and is hating on Maverick but towards the end you find out everything he's saying about Maverick's flying is true.

    • @44excalibur
      @44excalibur 2 роки тому

      Iceman resented Maverick because he went to flight school with Cougar, where the two were close friends, and he felt that Maverick unfairly got Cougar's spot in Top Gun. He also probably suspected that Maverick was negligent in covering Cougar during the MiG incident and that he was partially responsible for Cougar quitting, although Iceman didn't know the details of what actually happened.

    I was fresh out of bootcamp in San Diego and attending technical training when I this movie came out in 1986. Many scenes were filmed at the Recruit Training Command (Bootcamp) and in other locations around San Diego. I saw this on the wide screen in 70mm Dolby and it was just so good. The album soundtrack was what really made this film better. I just saw the sequel "Top Gun: Maverick". Today they don't make movie soundtrack albums so there are only two original songs, but the movie itself is even better.

    OK -- so, rules of engagement. In a cold war (or *THE Cold War), the first party that shoots is the one that starts a shooting war. It might sound a tad odd, but it's literally that basic of a concept. The US Government didn't want to escalate a war between the US and (presumably, it was never officially said in the move) the Soviet Union. That's why Maverick isn't allowed to shoot. Aside from likely starting a war, he would likely be court martialed for disobeying the orders of a superior (although a lot of what he does in the movie is also reckless use of aircraft). Court martial in wartime is often punishable with the death penalty.

    Fun dact,..or not,..the “old man “ Charlie hs dinner with at the bar, the movie is dedicated to him. He’s was a real top gun instructor and combat veteran thst was organizing the flight scenes between the naval pilots and the film crew and after a filming of a scene, he was in his own plane and didn’t follow the pilot and film crew back and minutes later radiod he hd a problem , his plane crashed just after killing him. Crazy to see him sitting with Charlie in thst scene jsut before he was killed helping film this.
    Also The F-14 canopy strikes that goose experienced were a real thing thst happened on Numerous occasions killing a number of back seaters. When the f-14 would enter a flat spin the body would create a an air pressure that would slow the canopy from its jettison , sometimes causing the rocketing back seater to hit their head on the canopy fracturing the skull and killing them instantly.

    • @richardvernon317
      @richardvernon317 2 роки тому +1

      The guy at the bar was Pete "Viper" Pettigrew who was the Navy's technical Advisor. The Guy killed was Art Scholl, a famous stunt pilot who crashed his Pitts special while filming in a flat spin to get footage for the back projection for the F-14 cockpit set. Tomcat Flat spins did happen, but nobody was killed in one. First time one happened, The canopy was released on pulling of the ejection handles on one of the seats. The Canopy was released and then the seats fired. of course the canopy failed to clear the route of the ejection seats and the RIO broke his legs on the canopy when he hit it, but he survived. The Drill after that was jettison the canopy first and when it was clear, pull the ejection handles. The Flat spin after flying into jet wash was a rewrite of the script to kill Goose, without killing Maverick and getting him grounded and kicked off the course (which would have happened if they did the mid air collision which was going to be the original cause of Goose's death)..

    Your faces when Goose was killed are exactly what we experienced. They took the most likable character and killed him. It was a kick in the face.
    And. When I left the theater at the Mall, I walked to the Record Store (it needs caps) and bought the soundtrack. On cassette tape. This is still possibly the best soundtrack ever.
