This movie unfortunately came out around the same time as Despicable Me. Both were similar in the style of movie/story and even a sidekick named Minion/The Minions. I do think this is the better of the two.
Despicable Me was way more childish than this one… The reason it did so well was Mainly because of how stupid/annoying the minions are and the fact that it was a “bad” guy turned dad… Megamind had a mature vibe and kids wouldn’t really get that so🤷🏾♂️
I think that the key to understanding MetroMan’s perspective on his life up until the observatory, as well as MegaMind’s, is to realize that he chose to follow music as his new career, because it’s one of the few things his powers can’t help him improve at.
You guys questioned at the end of the video where Bernard ended up and it is addressed in a scene in the credits. Megamind had stuck the cube in a pocket, and when Minion does his laundry the washing machine rehydrates him.
Megamind is like The Joker after Batman apparently died, he got depressed and didn’t want to commit crimes without Batman trying to stop him. He said “without Batman crime has no punchline”
I remember when this movie came out it was the same time Despicable Me came out, and to be honest, it sucks that DM was the one that got way more traction. Not to say it wasn't deserved, but Megamind deserved to be at that level too. This movie had a unique way of telling the "hero VS. villan" story and that with Will Ferrell and company being as humorous as they are with their roles just made the movie that much better and really underappreciated.

He speaks like someone who learned vocabulary by reading, and gets it wrong. "Mel-ANK-aly" instead of "melancholy" is a perfect example. No one bothered to fix his greeting, "O-lo," until he was on the phone with Roxanne. Then Minion reminded him it was "Hello." And English is funny. We know that "school" is pronounced "skool," because that's what English speakers have always known. But if you learned the grammar rules and "sch" is most often pronounced "sh," it's not illogical that he would pronounce it "s'hool." That's what I felt about Raya and the Last Dragon. I mean, it's not the worst movie, the visuals are great, but it was so "empty." As a Southeast Asian woman who grew up surrounded by our culture, they could have chosen any other lesson/teaching unique to us to bring to the table. Instead, they chose something that could have worked in any other animated film. And they dragged the story on until I got sick of hearing it brought up over and over again. To answer your question about what ever became of the missing Bernard, no, he was not left as a dehydrated cube to be blown to bits in the explosion. Yes, once Megamind dehydrated Bernard, he was absent through the entire movie. But if you watch the end again, pay attention to the scene where Minion is doing the laundry. Dehydrated cube Bernard gets thrown into the washing machine with the laundry and he's rehydrated inside the washing machine. Y0u'll need to sit through the end credits for the ending scenes to see this. So Bernard did survive his ordeal, though he wound up somewhat moist, but ultimately more clean in the end. So fear not. Bernard survived, and got a free bath out of the deal. And in the life of someone as dull as Bernard, I'd call that a win. Though I do think the washing machine should have been enough, he really didn't deserve the "Forget-me Stick" to the face.
We should have watched through the credits, but when we finished it was 1am and I was so tired; sadly our only timing for recording is late at night lol. But I'm glad Bernard lives to see another day and gets a free bath included!

Best soundtrack, amazing one liners, such a great animation and so underrated! So happy you guys did this movie. My family uses lines from this movie almost every day, Ollo is how we answer the phone now. Such a great reaction guys, THANK YOU!!
OMG. You guys be reacting to the best Movies I remember seeing this at 14 years old in Theater with My family Empathy for the character the story telling was just so Amazing. My favorite Seen is when Megamind pulling up on the oppisition Hal Stewart aka Titan and Guns and Rose's Welcome to the Jungle blast in the backround.`
Great reaction guys! Loved re-living this one with you both! FYI, Bernard does get re-hydrated, it just happens during the credits and I'm assuming you guys cut the movie off before then. Fear not, he's OK! :D
I loved the hell out of this movie. It honestly felt like it was written for me. I kept saying "I'd love it if this would happen, but it won't" and then it did! I just love this film!
Saw this flick in theaters twice! Once initially when it came out, and again with my nephews at the cheapo theater around a month after. And the first movie I bought for Blu-Ray. It was a good movie.
Thinking about it now, Metroman was exponentially stronger than Titan. Titan never showed any hint of super speed, and Metroman could make a sonic boom by flexing. Yes that was Megamind, but he knew Metroman almost as well as he knew himself, to the point that he even knew what quips Metroman would use in any situation.
But Titan /Tighten was never trained to use his super-speed power. That _may_ have actually been one thing MegaMind did not know about MetroMan, and if he didn’t teach it, Hal wouldn’t have know it.
This is my favorite movie of all time. Great animation, engaging story line, unpredictable ending, perfect voice acting (especially by Ferrell). Not to mention, it has the coolest, most badàsş soundtrack in the history of animation.
You guys’ reaction to this movie is great! (And I have to say, I love how you both got Hal’s character right away, where a lot of people think at first that he’s just awkward, you picked up on the creep vibes from the get-go).
We could say that Megamind got a "sequel-not-sequel", it was a short called "Megamind and the button of doom" or something similar. Made me think that even withouth a movie sequel a show would be as good.
I love how Megamind's plan of defeating Hal as MetroMan failed. He thought he needed to become MetroMan to be a hero, but it just wouldn't work. He had to be a hero as himself to win.
At least, he didn’t plan on taking the credit. It was Roxanne who “unmasked” him to the public. He himself never imagined he could actually be the hero.
At 44:29 - What happened to Bernard? You guys ended your viewing before you got there. While the credits began rolling, there was a quick scene... Minion was emptying the washing machine (as Megamind was in his pajamas when he went to the Metro Man exhibit in the museum), and Bernard's dehydrated cube turned back into Bernard. He quipped, "This is the worst day in my life." And Minion hit Bernard in the head with the "forget me stick."
Well, not exactly,he could have donated his semen to a sperm bank...But I don't think he's the type of person to do something like that...Well,maybe in a narcissistic way yes,he might think it would be a good thing to have other beings on the planet Earth like him 'cause he thinks he's a good person(that he's not)...
Someone’s life may seem better than yours but none of us truly know what’s going on in their lives. People can be great actors without having lessons just because of the life they think they Have to live to make others safe and happy. As a rich kid with powers you know he either had parents that pushed him hard for perfection or almost ignored him by handing him off to tutors and such to learn what they were likely too busy to teach themselves. There is no telling. Both boys were in a prison. One was just prettier than the other’s.
If you get the chance when you re-watch this film, now knowing how the plot goes, watch Megamind's projection during the taunting of Metroman at the observatory. For a brief instance (one frame of the 24 fps) you can see Metroman standing behind Megamind in the fake observatory on the image. The filmmakers went into that great a detail to flesh out their story!
I love Megamind! And it was so much fun to see your reactions to Hal. Yep, he's one of the creepiest villains ever XD Also, Bernard does appear again in an after credits scene =) And this is the only Minion I'll accept. I can't stand the yellow ones.
The yellow minions were fun until they were adopted by middle-aged women on Facebook for "memes" that say stuff like "Everyone has that one weird friend...!"
I am so glad you finally reviewed this. It is one of my all time favorite movies! FYI there is an after credit scene you might have missed where Bernard re hydrates in megamind's washing machine. Also there is a sequel short called the button of doom and I heard that they are gonna do a TV series on Disney plus.

Wonderful movie. Underappreciated for sure. Perhaps that's a blessing in disguise because I can't imagine a sequel being as good as the original. Lots of good themes and humor here as well.
You two are so awesome. You're the first reactors I've seen who have both a) clocked how creepy Hal is from the start, and b) saw the meaning behind Metro Man's choice of new career. I'm sure by now you've seen what happened to Bernard. Please stay awesome.
I have a very fun detail for ya: 13:45 You can see Metro Man use his super speed on the big screens, exactly right at the timestamp. It's a quick flicker
They were really ahead of their time with Hal as a "Nice Guy" villain. And about bald villains, Megamind and Metroman were parodies(?) of Lex Luthor and Superman, so it'd be weird if Megamind had hair.
When I first came across this movie, I thought “this is gonna be awful”. I eventually watched it as background noise while I was doing an assignment at uni, and it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I love it! I keep doing this with movies 😂 I see it advertised or I come across it and I’m like, this will be shit. And then I go back and watch them and they’re great 😂 Great reaction guys! 😁
Funny you mentioned a sequel. Apparently they announced a sequel TV series earlier this year. The show will be called Megamind's Guide To Defending Your City
There is an alternate universe where Megamind was released a few months before Despicable Me. In that universe we were treated to two Megamind sequels, a Minion spinoff, and we're about to get a Metroman centered prequel. Also, your crazy aunt's Minion memes star a fish in a gorilla suit. Finally, DreamWorks has recently bought out Illumination.
This movie is all about people either accepting or rejecting the roles society expects of them. MegaMind and MetroMan initially accept the roles of hero and villain, even though deep down, neither of them want to play that game. Both of them eventually reject their societal roles, in favor of doing what makes them happy. Roxanne rejects being MetroMan’s girlfriend, even though society expects her to love him, due to how many times he’s saved her. However, the movie is also mature enough to recognize how this can go bad, which is why Hal represents a perversion of this message of “being who you want to be”, as he does whatever he wants, even when he knows he’s actively harming countless people, by doing so. From my experience, only some of the best pieces of media have such a well thought-out message as this movie does, which is why it’s one of the greats.
This movie was amazing. Sadly it was the victim of being a little ahead of its time. It brilliantly satirizes the superhero genre... essentially, Megamind is to superhero films what Shrek was to the Disney Renaissance. But unlike Shrek, which came out just as the Disney Renaissance was jumping the shark, Megamind came out at a time when superhero movies were crushing it at the box office. So this movie got overlooked when it came out, but years later, after people felt the superhero genre was played out, people came back to this movie and really started to appreciate how brilliant it was.
I freaking love this Movie,Megamind is one of my All Time Favorite Movies,I Love the Characters, the Villain, the Songs, the Animations, the Unpredictability, the Jokes, the Emotional Moments, and the Message about Choice and Destiny is something we Choose, not what Others Makes Us,for Years I was Sad that we wouldn't get a Sequel but this Years it was Confirmed that DreamWorks was going to bring Back Megamind in some Way,Shape, and Form and in my Opinion is way better than Despicable Me and can you please Review Cat in the Hat and Norbit.
You skipped the after credits scene. It totally follows up with Bernard. You gotta go back and watch that. Edit: link - ua-cam.com/video/QppJiv5L2PE/v-deo.html&ab_channel=DevinBellizia
Megamind is my all-time favorite. I don't even know how many times I've watched it and it's still funny. "Fun fact":The way megamind says Metro City was (I'm guessing) too indistinctive in my country,so in dubbed version in my language he is saying metro shitty..
There is what appears to be a short called Megamind: The Button of Doom in your "watch next" list at the right that I have never seen or heard of before! (I still have guilt that I basically ignored the original run of Megamind until it came out on VHS. It was sheer freaking delight from start to finish, and it was my demographic I think (young/middle adult at the time) that didn't take it seriously enough for a theater seat. However, Illumination was NOTORIOUS for *pouring* dollars into their marketing, and honestly DreamWorks had only just found its footing.)
There is a 10 min short that was included on the bluray called "Megamind: and the Button of Doom" it's about Megamind's first adventure as a good guy. You can find it on youtube and it's worth checking out. Also some months ago it was announced that a Megamind TV series was in development.

[I am not arguing this is a good or a bad thing. It is a fact.]
That is, if he didn't get a concussion from the forget-me stick. 😉
I loved the hell out of this movie. It honestly felt like it was written for me. I kept saying "I'd love it if this would happen, but it won't" and then it did! I just love this film!
There's an after credit scene sequence depicting what happened to Bernard btw
Megamind is such a good movie. It's one of my favorite animated movies.
Man as far as kids movies go this was solid asf, glad yall did a vid for this movie 👍.
It’s not a KIDS movie
He quipped, "This is the worst day in my life."
And Minion hit Bernard in the head with the "forget me stick."
44:24 What Marvel movie teaches us is that to always check the after credits. Bernard lives.
13:44 you can see Metroman go on his walk and appear behind Megamind for a frame
24:49 Hal: "do I have a son"
Me: "that would imply you weren't still a virgin".
47:46 meanwhile the rock is is playing black adam which is considered a villain in dc
There's an end credit scene where Bernard pops out of the washer cause he was still in MMs pocket
Sadly I think a lot of girls have had to deal with a Hal, well a non-superpowered one.
The way you guys laughed at Titan’s reaction to the calves getting bigger means you’ll adore all the dumb edits of that clip - as I also love them!
This is such a good movie! You guys keep shocking me with these picks! Keep killing it.
!!!!Guys go to the end of the movie to find Bernard. He is in-between the credits!!!!😆 Megamind is one of my all time favorite animated movies. It's so different from the others. I especially love the soundtrack!
One of the underrated animation movies of all time
I love this movie! I’ve watched it with my grandchildren and I’ve watched it because I just really enjoyed this film. The storytelling in this is really smart and just lots of fun! So glad y’all got around to this movie!
Bernard appears again in the post credits scene, he gets hydratated again xD
Titan: there is no Queen of England
Me: Well... Not anymore
So the dad character he turns into is a parody of marlon Brando who played Superman’s dad in the original film 🤣 also I love the cast for this film: will Ferrell, Tina fey, Jonah hill, brad Pitt, Ben stiller, David cross, JK Simmons, They’re all amazing 🤧❤️🔥
Wonderful movie. Underappreciated for sure. Perhaps that's a blessing in disguise because I can't imagine a sequel being as good as the original. Lots of good themes and humor here as well.
It’s supposedly getting a sequel TV series
And you were right
Bernard is in the post credits. Love the review!
You two are so awesome. You're the first reactors I've seen who have both a) clocked how creepy Hal is from the start, and b) saw the meaning behind Metro Man's choice of new career. I'm sure by now you've seen what happened to Bernard. Please stay awesome.
You can see in an instant metro an behind megamind in one frame before he gets hit with the dethray lol its a great detail they did
I have a very fun detail for ya: 13:45 You can see Metro Man use his super speed on the big screens, exactly right at the timestamp. It's a quick flicker
They were really ahead of their time with Hal as a "Nice Guy" villain. And about bald villains, Megamind and Metroman were parodies(?) of Lex Luthor and Superman, so it'd be weird if Megamind had hair.
Very few reactors I’ve seen have picked up on that the reason Metroman went into music, is the fact that he’s not perfect at it, so kudos
And then I go back and watch them and they’re great 😂
Great reaction guys! 😁
I judge how good a person is by their reaction to Hall Stewart in Megamind.
I slept on this movie when it came out. Younger me was dumb for passing it over, this movies real good
I love how into this movie you guys were. It's one of my favorites and this is by far the best reaction to it I've seen.
Funny you mentioned a sequel. Apparently they announced a sequel TV series earlier this year. The show will be called Megamind's Guide To Defending Your City
The real Bernard gets rehydrated in the end credits scene. But yeah, nobody seemed to miss him while he was gone. 😄
It's criminal this film didn't get a sequel.
👀
It’s also a tropical Hollywood trope of bad vs evil and the bad guy turns good
But they did it awesome
@@-M0LE buuut a ‘good’ guy has never turned ‘evil’
31:40 The skeleton? lol, and I was thinking about how impossible it would be for the cape to survive :D
Bernard gets rehydrated in the washing machine in the post-credits scene.
I watched this with a kid I was babysitting and was embarrassed about how much I loved it. One of my favourites. Thanks for the reaction.
I love this non Disney animated films , they have a certain level of fun .
Im still laughing thinking of Mitchell vs The Machines.
My friend Kyle raves about that movie a lot, we might have to do it! :)
@@OctoKrool Omg yes please it's a great story & the animation is fantastic.
This is honestly probably the best reactions I e ever seen, it was hilarious 😭
That there is no Queen of England line gets me everytime
If you watched to the end there's a mini scene with Minion doing the laundry and when he opens the washer, Bernard pops out.
That's why Megamind is my second favorite movie 9.8/10👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Saw this in the theater. Pat myself on the back for picking this at the time. Validated once again here. You guys are dope man.
41:24 Theory is that the warden adopted him emotionally and didn't let his existence be known so he wouldn't be experimented on
Hal was the answer to "What if Superman was a 'Nice Guy?'"
There is a 10 min short that was included on the bluray called "Megamind: and the Button of Doom" it's about Megamind's first adventure as a good guy. You can find it on youtube and it's worth checking out. Also some months ago it was announced that a Megamind TV series was in development.
You: “What happened to the real Bernard?”
Us: “Watch the end credits!!!”
🤗
Bernard was rehydrated when Megaminds suit was tossed in the washer...lol
I loved this movie. But you guys made it even MORE fun!
One of my favorite underrated animated movies.
Will Farrell is so funny in this movie
…as opposed to his others??? Lol he’s funny in everything
You guys haven't seen this? Love this movie 👍 Can't wait to see your reaction.
As for Bernard's fate, please watch the Easter egg after the credits.
