So I just discovered this channel, Nov 12, 2023. The algorithm found you from watching Diesel Creek and Mustie1 (in the USA) and you now have one new subscriber, I am quite interested to see what the future brings for you!
Great job with the turning. Fun watch. BE super careful with gloves, sleaves or anything when turning on the lathe. It is so easy for a rough spot to grab and take your hand or arm into it. I always turn with short sleaves and no gloves, rings or anything on my hands. Don't know you experience level so just wanted to mention this. I know it's a bit colder where you are so just be aware lathes can really be dangerous with loose fitting clothes and especially gloves. It only take a loose string to grab and take your fingers into it. Just a warning if you haven't used a lathe much before.
Hi Andris. Love these longer videos. Always end up watching them all in one go. Still feels like 5 minutes. Wish you and your family all the best. Sincerely a fan from Denmark.
Considering how well it was used before you purchased it and not maintained, it has held up well and all that you are doing now will increase it's life. Looking forward to part 2.
Andris, your familiarity with your lathe will give you better results as shown with your finishes over each pin. You should have a feed control lever on the side of your apron which will use the lead screw yo advance the carriage longitudinally along the work piece and normally you have the cutting tool moving forward towards the chuck with the leading edge of the cutting tool doing the work. Speed, direction and sharpness of the tool will normally give you a good finish, practice makes perfect and since you like to experiment have a crack. This was an awesome video, good length, heaps of content and superb results, well done mate, great effort as always

Hi Andris - the lathe proves it's worth in this episode. Great solution to the pin fit adding the welds and then machining off. A lot of work but definitely extending the life of the machine. Well done.
Hello Mr Ants! Thanks again for a great video! At 1:28:00 You mention having a welded together holesaw, You can do this without welding anything. Hi Andris , now you have a Lathe so now you can make your own pins and bushings so you wont have to wait on other people. Yes the lathe was a nice purchased it will save you some money for sure. You can make washers on your lathe using round stock. Not too bad for the first time on the lathe. Lots to learn about which cutting tool to use for cutting. Hope you got your manual for you lathe. Hopefully it has something about the cutting tools in it. Thanks for another great video looking forward to seeing the second half. Have a great weekend.. 😊 😊
I am so pleased you got rid of all the weld undercuts on those pins while on the lathe as all those rough edges would of created a cutting surface in the bushes well done.
The 80% oil change sounds about right. Many people still think it should be changed at 3000-5000miles. It’s a hold over from 40 years ago when oils were not very good. We run our diesel service trucks to 15,000 miles. We did oil analysis on our trucks and customer’s equipment at (300hrs) to get to that point we had faith in running them that long.
Hey Andris! You may have better success cutting from tailstock into the chuck. The turning tools are designed for this and you’ll get better results. But - for a guy that’s just learning how to use a lathe, you did amazingly well!! Cheers, Bro!
@@Ants_Pants - yep. There really isn't a wrong way to cut on a lathe (for what guys like you and I are doing). I was taught to use the right hand cutting tool, put the lathe in forward and cut from the tailstock towards the chuck. It does seem to provide a better surface finish, but again - if you get the pin turned to the right diameter, then job well done! The different tools really just help you reach different areas. A right hand turning tool used as I describe works best simply because of the tool geometery. At the end of the day, bro - you do you (and it's working). Cheers!!

Good work Ants, if there is a part 2 im more than interested seeing it. The oil filter length is not that important here mostly it's the threads that have to match up. Most of these mini excavators work the snot out until they are just sold. Yours is not even the worst at all. If you go watch how much work Matt from Pacific Northwest Hillbilly channel has with his large excavator. You will see despite the size difference all of them have the same issue and that is neglect kills. Now having a Lathe makes perfect sense cause turning the pins back to the original diameter and letting someone else do it. Adds up the costs within minutes. You need a oil/fluid pump setup for the lathe to cool down the cutting blade. Also weld makes the cutting blades dull very fast.
Nice improvements to the old Ho. I thought the kids toys were gonna take off into outer space when you unravelled the garden hose from the reel. 😆 Thanks for the entertaining, amusing and enjoyable vid. Noticed a couple sheet metal acquisitions i hadn't seen before. Very enviable shop space you have. Cheeeeeers Lad!!

@@Ants_Pants In that case, after Yanmar is fixed, you can take a weekend project to fix the P51 :) Shouldn't be too difficult, certainly nowhere near as complex as fixing Yanmar or Joseph.
You have to wire in the master switch on the positive side of the battery. Cause wiring it on the negative still allows current to flow through the system. So wiring it on the positive side isolates the battery from the system. That's why we call it the isolator switch in Australia.
Hey dude, great video, as always. I'm just going to deal with one aspect this time round, which concerns your lathe. I have over 40 years experience working with lathes. Please don't take this the wrong way. No pun intended, but you're cutting the wrong way. There are three points to remember when using a lathe. First, 99% of the time, you cut from right to left, not left to right as you were doing. Secondly, when removing a lot of material, it's best to go at a slower speed, but when you get to say, within 0.2 mm or less, speed up. The faster the speed, the smoother the finish. To get it really smooth you can always finish with emery tape. Thirdly, make sure you use the right cutting tip for the job in hand. Different tips react to different metals, chrome for example. You can machine chrome, but you must use the correct type of tip. Then once the chrome layer has been removed, you swap out that tip for a different one. Last bit of advice, my friend. Please watch some lathing videos. Kurtis at (CEE) Cutting Edge Enginering explains everything you need to know about lathes, line boring, cutting, and welding in general. He lives in Australia, and there will be a surprise for you at the end of his videos 😆👍 From your number one fan in the UK 🇬🇧🇺🇦🇮🇱
SovieNt oil turns into water in two years. So eco friendly. Much wow! =) About lathe, I don't really know if you mocking us, or really don't know what you doing=) Always cut towards spindel, from right to left. All pass-thrue tools are designed to cut by its left side, not by its tip. Only cut-off tools and threading tools cut with the tip.
The second hydro filter in in the tank. It’s on the bottom of the first cover that you took off. I’m guessing that you don’t have a manual. I love your long videos, I gave up television for UA-cam. ❤️ blessings my friend.
Dude, I mean this with all the best and not trying to be safety police or anything but it's actually super dangerous, please no gloves when the lathe is running, ever! Preferably roll up your sleeves too, hoodie ropes or any other shit that can get caught and pull you into the lathe. That lathe definitely is stronger than your arm and it's very easy to get caught on something. I've been called out for it too, because you know, it makes sense to want to protect your hands when there's hot metal flying around. But some hot chips and scratches every now and then are a lot better than getting your arm ripped off so I'm glad people warned me before anything happened. There definitely have been times since then where I would've been screwed if I had been wearing gloves. Anyway, enjoyed the video as always. I was kind of hoping to see your mother's reaction to the big ass tractor but can't have everything I guess! :)
Yeah i know about this, it was very cold in the workshop so that's why i wear gloves. I need to get some heat going into the workshop. Mother was happy to see it by the way, she knew this tractor from her childhood as she was a farm worker back then, brought back some memories of her.
Great video! I never saw somebody renewing bolts with a lathe. I hope it lasts a long time. Bolts are inductive hardened and I don't know if welding it up lasts same time than the original material. One important hint about bolds: Most important is that the bolts don't rotate relative to the body of machine. If the bolt turns, it destroys the body in that area. See the flat part of the bolt attachment? It should fit to the metal holding bar. Just weld it up so that is corretly fits. This will save you much time in future. I also need to to this job this winter. Small hydraulic filter: In the meantime, did you find out where it belongs? Do you have any service manuel or spare part diagrams/List? It should be visible there. It should be in tank or next to tank. Final drive boxes: They should be cleaned every x months, otherwise the hose fittings will corrode. Cleaning, painting it or put a lot of grease on it.
Whenever you change oil in any vehicle or agricultural machine heat it up as it will get thinner and very quick to drain. Cold oil will leave about half a litre while hot oil will drain almost everything out
Use some penetrating oil on those rusted and stuck threads . makes your work much easier - enjoyed watching. You have some beautiful property in the summer. However, I could not handle the cold weather. Best wishes from Oklahoma!

Yea, agree. Same with a grinding wheel. No glove, no sleeves. I did metal fab in the US Navy and saw some bad accidents with loose clothes.

That smaller filter is a "suction filter" and goes on the hydraulic pump pickup. That's why its only open on one side. Somewhere in the tank.
and you have to drain the fluid to do it and you have to open the access hole in the tank

Ahh, the good old P51 Mustang (aka. pressure washer) came out again. I love the sound it makes, reminds me of WW2 documentaries :D
that sucks bro, always breaks down on me :(
@@Ants_Pants In that case, after Yanmar is fixed, you can take a weekend project to fix the P51 :) Shouldn't be too difficult, certainly nowhere near as complex as fixing Yanmar or Joseph.
@@SideKickStudios id rather attempt to fix the ISS then fiddle with mr.Mustang
Brilliant, as always, buddy....already looking forward to the next installment...😊👍
Mud in my eye... thanks, great job
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Andris, look at your video while you were fitting the earth cable, looks like the remains of your old idolater switch 😮😊
yes
You have to wire in the master switch on the positive side of the battery. Cause wiring it on the negative still allows current to flow through the system. So wiring it on the positive side isolates the battery from the system. That's why we call it the isolator switch in Australia.
Interesting, my soviet tractor is also wired via negative
thank you very much for good entertainment. 👍🤗👍🇸🇯
no problemo
He lives in Australia, and there will be a surprise for you at the end of his videos 😆👍
From your number one fan in the UK 🇬🇧🇺🇦🇮🇱
thanks for all the tips my friend, i have not had time to check out them videos. I will try my best.
Yup, a lathe and a milling machine can save you a lot of money when fixing machinery. A CNC plasma table can also help a lot.
i wanna get a manual mill to start off. Lathe will get me only so far
Ants another brilliant episode…… the workshop is real coming alive, I’m sure your going to evolve in to a genius 😁🔨⚒️
Na man i usuallu evolve backwards, into a monkey.
Lmao 🤣
Привет Антс, отличная работа молодец так держать удачи тебе и крепкого здоровья и всей твоей семье.
❤
Master class again ! Keep up the good work man .👍👍👍
If you have shop air a needle scaler works GREAT for removing slag from welds. =)
Oh yes 👍
Super Video
Super
Another success Andris…..well done buddy!
thanks bro
Please put a cardboard against the wall by the lathe. The bushing from the last job has to be replaced I think. Overall a great job.👍
pressure wash the wall once a month :D
SovieNt oil turns into water in two years. So eco friendly. Much wow! =)
About lathe, I don't really know if you mocking us, or really don't know what you doing=) Always cut towards spindel, from right to left. All pass-thrue tools are designed to cut by its left side, not by its tip. Only cut-off tools and threading tools cut with the tip.
I try 😜
Another great video , no matter if your words are made up or not your videos are fantastic , thank you !!!!!!
Thanks bro
The second hydro filter in in the tank. It’s on the bottom of the first cover that you took off. I’m guessing that you don’t have a manual. I love your long videos, I gave up television for UA-cam. ❤️ blessings my friend.
Yup i did not bother to get a manual for this one, but maybe i should have.
Cleaning, painting it or put a lot of grease on it.
it was almost filled the first time around, can see that rust line on the motor. Iv been cleaning them every now and then.
Whenever you change oil in any vehicle or agricultural machine heat it up as it will get thinner and very quick to drain. Cold oil will leave about half a litre while hot oil will drain almost everything out
👍
Use some penetrating oil on those rusted and stuck threads . makes your work much easier - enjoyed watching. You have some beautiful property in the summer. However, I could not handle the cold weather. Best wishes from Oklahoma!
Thanks for the tip!
