The "extra" oval o-ring looks like it's supposed to go under the front cover of the pilot pump. You can see the groove and the corresponding mark where it sits.
@@ozzyburrns Yeah I did...I took it back apart today to put in the missing oval one and noticed that one was also missing. Maybe I should stop doing this kind of work at 10 o'clock at night...
Congratulations! That was a major accomplishment and a very intricate. I spent 30 years supervising an aviation rebuild facility for the military including an hydraulic shop that did major rebuilds. It takes a very skilled person to do what you've done!
@19:24 - It's cool to watch a thing get rebuilt with decent-ish parts and extreme attention to detail. There are a lot of "fix it cheap" channels, which, for the record, I like too, but your method is also most satisfying.
I am a 79 year old retired truck fleet and equipment maintenance manager. I have the highest respect for you, your problem solving abilities, your mechanical skills and your "I can do it" attitude!
I'm just so impressed by what you do and your patience with things - good grief! I sit glued to the computer the full length of the video every time you post. Keep going!
You have put more quality time in the rebuild than any shop would ever do. When all is done you will know you have done a perfect rebuild like you did on the dozer.
They where called trade magazines and came out on a regular schedule. Plus there was the old fixed line phone to "phone a friend". But yes much easier to get information these days, both good and bad.
You have accomplished a most excellent reassembly/rebuild on the pump, your patience is commendable, it is a pleasure to watch your videos and enjoying the entire process. Nice to see Charlie and the duckling in the video, fun stuff. Thanks for the update.
These videos you put out are so enjoyable to watch! So detailed and full of information. Your approach to things is very insightful. Thank you for keeping up all the work on this! Would love to see the treehouse build if you felt inclined to film it! And the lathe project!
I've worked along side a lot of "pros" who did things like fill a brand new Gardner Denver screw compressor with oil using an improvised funnel from a scrap of cardboard that was lying on the floor. Or use the hydraulic oil drum pump to pump out a caustic soda tank and then put it right back in the hydraulic oil drum. Be glad you're an amateur.
your maticulous attention to detail and willingness to do it right or as right as it can be is admirable and keeps me coming back, cant wait for the next vid, thanks for the content buddy!
Noticed the bright red squirt can, 👍! Makes sense with the price of brake cleaner, and you know beforehand when you are getting low. Everything seems to take longer when you aren’t working at a full time shop, I’m a past tense professional and working at home and don’t have specialized tools for seemingly small simple projects everything seems like it takes four times longer than when I was punching the clock. But now I’m allergic to clocks😂. Great to see the progress on a very complicated series 😊.
Man! you had me on the edge of my seat quite a few times! I was really tense like watching a disaster movie but you did a great job especially as you haven't done this kinda thing before. Bravo!
Very nice job on the pump. I hope we get to see some lathe videos and you building a treehouse would be interesting with your approach to getting the job done. Thanks Matt
Great job Matt. Thanks for sharing. Cannot wait to see you cleaning the rest of the machine up and getting it painted. The two screws near the end, that you did not know what they were. They might be screws to tighten up the shaft that they are on. Thank again.
Thank you Matt, sharing your work will be saved for family, friends and us. I find watching again down the road, is like 1st time when done great like you do, eh?
Well, for amateurs it could be a daunting task.....not for you though because you are no amateur....great teacher, great presentations. Thanks for sharing.
Please allow me to join the legion of people who seek out your videos where we can watch a man with a great array of skills and knowledge, help together by exceptional patience and attention to detail!! I eagerly await the Tree House project and whatever special touches you will include.
Thanks Matt great vid. Be sure to prime pump with oil before starting. Thanks Josh for the help. MATT keep diong what your doing. Looking forward to more vids. Lathe and tree house should be cool.
You could take a whole summer off and play with the kids. I love this content and see how much devotion that is done to make a video of this level. I probably worded this badly but in my heart mean to say, you are on a high level of doing this kind of work. I have mentioned before that I was a mechanic till I see this kind of work done. over thirty years in diesel and heavy equipment repairs, fab work and I do tip my hat to you sir!
You’re really getting into this unit deep. Oh, to test rotational force of bearings please use a dial type torque wrench, not a “click” type, much more accurate Good job
Man! This has been one hell of a job, still a lot to do. Especially all the hoses and wiring. I think this one will top the dozer. Keep up the great work bud.
*- Matt, I am so glad for you. The supper support coming to you is so well deserve and is the kind of corporation that this world needs.* *- I am impressed all around for so many reasons...AND, gosh do you have a good memory.*
"It's not that complicated, you just need to spend a lot of time with it" My man, that was over 50 pieces (I'm not counting) mounted in easily over a 150 steps (really not counting), with several torque and quality checks (seriously, I refuse to count) that you disassembled, cleaned, resurfaced, rematched, replaced and reassembled. Seriously, I love the humility, but that's the DEFINITION of complicated.
One of the most important things is cleanliness. I ran a aircraft hyd shop for 17 years. If you keep it clean and follow the technical data it is like any other job. Use brass seal picks and stay away from scratches. I have used jewelers rouge to polish and lap.
Great to see you again, Matt! Always waiting to see you rebuild your hitachi excavator brother! Awesome job so far brother! I’m not a mechanic either but you’re doing an amazing job my friend! Always looking forward to watching you work! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Does anyone else hit the like button before they have watched the video, im liking the other vidoes too the rolls royce engine was a great vid too that lathe looks interesting
another excellent superb quality video from you, held my attention all the way through, thank you. looking forward to seeing the lathe restoration and the building of the tree house.
Matt, the time editing this video must have been huge never mind the actual build work. Well done sir, 10/10 for effort. Kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland. Joe.
Actually I wouldn't mind seeing the tree house build too. I am curious to see how it turns out. It's nice to see you are approaching 100k subscribers too. I'd like to see you hit 100, your videos are very interesting to watch.
Awesome effort, that took a big effort to get a big result, really well done, another part checked off the list. Well done to viewers who left very observant comments towards the rebuild, much appreciated for sure
i like how obsessed you are about cleanliness but i wouldn't worry to much. i watched the Pakistany mechanics rebuild and overhaul engines, transmissions among other things right on the dirt and everything works ok after there done ! LOL !!!!!!!

It's just mind blowing that that little swash plate pump creates enough power to move a big excavator so effortlessly!
Hopefully you can do some tree house videos! I like your style and ingenuity when working Matt!
You have put more quality time in the rebuild than any shop would ever do. When all is done you will know you have done a perfect rebuild like you did on the dozer.

You need a product called Dykem layout fluid instead of marker. And while lapping compounds may be too aggressive, a mild polishing compound may work.
